Excerpt

“Think he’s dead?” [...]

Nice voice. Soft and smooth, like velvet. Feminine. Clearly, he wasn’t alone.

“He sure looks dead.” A second woman replied, louder and with a chuckle. He suppressed a scowl and kept his eyes closed. She thinks this is funny? Bodies shifted behind whatever his head had cracked into, edging closer to either side of him.

“There’s no blood, though,” she of the velvet voice murmured. “Shouldn’t there be blood? [...]”

She came to a halt near his head, her body heat and peaches-and-honey scent saturating his senses. He should open his peepers and say something, see if the female looked as good as she sounded and smelled. Shit. Where had that reaction come from? He had no room in his life for a woman, especially not a mortal woman.

“Maybe we should check for a pulse,” [...]

“I’m not touching his body.”

Fast reply [...]. Jesus, did he look so horrible? And double Jesus, why did her opinion matter? He must have hit his head harder than he imagined.

“C’mon, girlfriend. It’s a big, beautiful body. How can you not want to get your hands on it?”

Listen to your girlfriend, Peaches. ...

Have a great September, Dear Readers, and I'll see you back here on September 30th with more book fun. :-)

Extracting Mateo is LIVE

Hey everyone! Extracting Mateo is live! It's been available since July 9th, but with everything going on kid wise prepping for her senior year and my mom having several doc appointments and surgery twice, it's been touch and go posting wise! (All is well though with the parental unit.)

Michele and I aren't done yet though. We have two more books in R.O.O.T we're going to try to put out by November. Jaqueline's Quest and Exploiting Scotty. So stay tuned.

Now, without further ado, here is Extracting Mateo!

Blurb:

Noah Hanover doesn’t mix business with pleasure—ever. His relationship and subsequent marriage to Mateo Aquino, hasn’t even been a blip on his team’s radar. He enjoys the peace and quiet when he’s able to come home to his husband and telling anyone would destroy his secret double life.
High school history teacher, Mateo Aquino, loves his job and his kids and is always willing to help anyone in need. When a man approaches him appearing lost, Mateo is thrust into the middle of a war he had no idea was happening around him.
In order to save Mateo’s life, Noah must expose the one thing he liked to keep tucked away—his marriage. With the help of Noah’s teammates, John “Tex” Keegan, and two temporary new recruits for R.O.O.T: Scotty “Ears” Reisner and AJ “Two Hands” Hoover, Noah will set out to find his husband.
However, when the suspect escapes, Mateo and Noah are thrown into a new reality where Noah’s job is exposed, and the things Mateo took for granted are destroyed. Can Mateo accept Noah’s double life? Will Noah be able to track down Mateo’s kidnapper before he strikes again? Or, are they once again, running out of time?

Excerpt:
The door to the examination room opened, and there stood Noah. He’d removed the paint from his face, but his clothes were the same. Mateo didn’t know this man. Yes, it was his husband, yet not. He raked his gaze over Noah. He always appreciated his muscular body. Always enjoyed the hard lines and the way his lover cradled Mateo’s body to his. He figured Noah had a gym fetish or had seen Mateo’s admiration and continued to go to please him.
The corner of Noah’s mouth kicked upward. The bastard. He should hate his husband. “I see Doc Rae got you fixed up.”
Mateo sniffed as he slipped off the table. “Shouldn’t have had to.”
The cocky expression on Noah’s face disappeared. “You’re absolutely right.” Noah brought one of his arms out from behind his back. “We found this while clearing the building. Thought you could use it.”
His bag with his initials emblazoned on the front—a present from Noah after he’d graduated with a Master’s in history and found his first teaching position. The well-worn leather satchel went with Mateo everywhere. It was like a security blanket of sorts. A way to keep a piece of Noah with him, even when his husband wasn’t home. “Ev-everything’s inside still?”
Noah nodded. “Computer screen is trashed, but the hardware is still intact. Scotty and AJ are working as we speak to get the hard drive into one of our heavy-duty laptops. Your notes and paperwork from your students are still there as well. I-I couldn’t find your glasses though.”
“I can get those,” Rae said. “As long as you can tell me who your optometrist is.”
“It’s Dr. Gibbs at Virginia Beach Optical,” Mateo replied.
“Perfect. I’m sure Asher can get them expedited to you.”
Mateo let out a breath of relief. “I am still furious with you.”
Noah held up his hands. “He good to go, Doc?”
She nodded. “He is. I gave him instructions for tonight. Tomorrow, I’ll check on the stitches—see how he’s mending.”
“Thank you,” Noah said. “I appreciate it.”
“You’re both welcome, she replied then hesitated.
“Spit it out,” Noah grumbled.
“Nothing,” she stated. “Mateo, remember to keep your stitches moist.”
“I will.”
“And, Noah?”
“Yeah, Doc?” Noah glanced at her.
“Be gentle,” she said while grabbing something out of the drawer beside her. “Also, be safe.”
He cocked a brow as she closed the distance between them. “Always, Doc.” She placed several foil packets into his hands, and Noah roared with laughter before leaning into Mateo, who stared at the packaged disks in his husband’s hands. “Should you tell her, or should I?”

He’s a killer…
Through the ages, deadly Guardian Týr watches over the mortal realm with a sword that is as blood-drenched as his soul in his quest for vengeance—his sarcasm a shield for the deepening hell inside him. Until one glimpse of a breathtaking, carefree female stops him dead in his tracks…but she’s the one person he can never have. Still, she has to be the most exasperating female on the planet, with a tendency to land herself in sticky situations.

She’s happiness incarnate…
Bumping shoulders with intractable immortals is not Kira Smith’s idea of fun. An unfortunate encounter with a certain, absurdly good-looking, über hot warrior undoes all her hard work, and the homeless boy she rescued escapes back into the demon-infested alleys. She’ll do whatever she must to save the child…even tolerate the arrogant, know-it-all as her bodyguard.

For her, he’ll break every rules…
Thrown together in this treacherous hunt, long suppressed emotions unravel, and Týr will do anything to claim the woman who stirs his deepest desires. Kira longs to succumb to the happiness she finds in him. Except, Fate isn’t always kind, revealing a dark destiny she never expected. It’s one that could very well tear them apart…

EXCERPT

Chapter 1

The castle pulsated as if happiness exploded through it.

Flowers were everywhere. Even the windowsills of the back stairwell hadn’t escaped the intruders.

Týr tugged off the tie constricting his windpipe as he jogged up the narrow steps to the second level, nearly knocking the purple and white joys of nature spilling from the vases to the floor. Hell, a person could suffocate from all the gaiety floating around. The things he endured for his fellow Guardians.

Blaéz and Darci had tied the knot earlier that evening. Sure, he was happy for them, but all this cheeriness abraded his psyche like sandpaper. Two minutes tops, and he was outta here.

Sounds of footsteps echoed. Dagan’s quiet voice drifted to him. “You’re heading out on patrol?”

Damn. His escape hadn’t gone unnoticed. “Yeah.” Týr didn’t look back, just continued upward.

“This event’s certainly been an eye-opener.”

More convo he didn’t want. Especially of this sort. “Why? You gonna follow soon? Not sure of your mate yet?”

Dagan snorted. “We’re fine.”

The male knew him well enough not to rise to his baiting. Týr was grateful that they’d finally put aside the eons-old cold silence between them, but he wasn’t in the mood for chit-chat. The tension in him grew, stirring the raucous rustling in his skull—a harbinger of a time he didn’t want to remember. As if he could ever escape those memories.

Tie dangling from his fist, he strode down the softly lit corridor to his quarters and shut the door behind him. The oppressive stillness of the darkened room grated on him, as did all the love in the air downstairs. With his mind, he flipped on the music system in the living room, and the thumping sounds of Metallica reverberated against the wall, crashing into his head.

Since his heightened senses made everything clear as fuck, he didn’t bother with the lights and made his way to the door past the huge fireplace.

In his gloomy dressing room, he flung the tie on the dresser, the tuxedo he’d worn as best man following seconds later. Exhaling deeply, Týr rubbed his face, his palms brushing his jaw. He grimaced at the sharp sting of the arc-shaped wound there. Two days, and it still hadn’t healed. Fury slid through him, dark and deadly. The asshole who’d dared mark him had hidden under cover of night like a fucking coward. But Týr was patient. No enemy escaped him for long. Ever.

He opened the closet running the length of the wall, got out his leathers, a black Henley, and boots. Back in the familiar comfort of his patrolling gear, biker jacket in hand, he switched off the music and headed out. His footsteps thudded on the marble floors of the elegant corridor, dotted sporadically by old suits of armor and priceless paintings on the cream walls.

Yo, Norse, you heading out on patrol? Aethan mind-linked with him.

Yeah.

You with Ely tonight?

Damn, Týr’d forgotten about their newest Guardian recruit and his babysitting duties. He’d have to put tracking the shadowy bastard on the backburner for tonight. Might as well get in his turn. Sure.

As he rounded the balustrade to the main stairs, he easily picked up on the chatter and laughter from the guests lingering in the rec room on the ground level where the reception had taken place.

Hell, the wedding was over. They should all go home.

A light, familiar fragrance drifted to him, and he slowed, his stomach twitching. In the last couple of days, the scent had enclosed him like a net, as if trapping him in a sun-drenched meadow.

Hers. A precursor to happiness.

The female appeared immersed in the sentiment, dragging joy with her wherever she went. Even his fury at his stalker subdued a little.

Another reason he had to get outta here, back to the alleyways where danger trawled in the shadows. He needed to find his normal again—far more preferable.

“Hedori, please, I need to leave.”

“I wish I could help you, Kira, but it’s impossible right now.”

Yep, their butler, all-round handyman, and sometimes mates’ bodyguard, possessed a helluva lot of patience. If it were him, he’d tell her to chill. There’d been a wedding, an unprecedented event at the castle, and Hedori had things to oversee.

“Pleeease, Heds,” she wheedled. “It’s urgent.”

Týr snorted. Feminine wiles, the most dangerous weapon of all. He’d found that out in the hardest possible way a long time ago.

But she sure seemed desperate.

What was so important anyway? It wasn’t even ten yet. Maybe she had another ridiculous, drivel-filled novel to nosedive into or…she’d had enough of his magnificent company this evening.

Nah. Everyone loved his awesomeness.

With wry amusement, he headed down the grand staircase that spilled out onto the huge foyer. The tiered chandelier cast prisms of light over the colorful stained-glass windows running from floor to ceiling. And, along with the usual verdant plants in the foyer, the new invaders—tall, pewter vases, overflowing with various shades of purple flowers—took up space.

Yup, eye-catching, and the perfect backdrop for the she-devil who stood there, her curvy figure clad in a slinky lilac bridesmaid’s gown. Her dark auburn hair had been pulled into some kind of topknot. Sure, she was breathtaking, he wasn’t blind, just messed-up in the head. But that sharp tongue of hers usually ruined the effect of her beauty.

As Týr jogged down to the ground floor, Hedori acknowledged him with a nod, and the ice queen who’d reigned during the reception and tacitly ignored his provocations turned, too. Her hazel-green eyes flared in irritation, the color a startling contrast to her luscious, creamy-latte skin.

“Sire, we have a bit of a situation,” Hedori said. “With the fae here, and guests still about, I cannot leave the castle just yet. Would you take Kira home?”

“No-no, Heds,” she quickly countered. “I’ll wait for you.”

He should leave, walk out. Aethan or another could take her, but Týr couldn’t resist. “Ah, Fluff, you wound me. Truly.”

Her head snapped his way. “Yes…maybe, if I thought for one second there was a heart or soul buried somewhere deep down under that shell,” she said sweetly, tone spiked with venom. She faced Hedori once more, sweet as treacle. “How long do you think you’ll be?”

Hiding his amusement, Týr sighed loudly as if put out. “C’mon, Fluff, let’s get you home.”

She pivoted so fast, fingers fisting as if she wanted to punch him. “Call me that again, and I swear, I’ll—”

A Guardian sworn to protect mortals from supernatural evil, Blaéz straddles the edge of darkness as his needs grow. When a good deed brings him to the doorstep of a female unlike any other, one whose touch ignites emotions long lost in the hellish pits of Tartarus, he’s determined not to lose her. EXCERPT

(PG) Excerpt: A scene between Michael, the Guardian’s leader, and Blaéz after he’d deliberately missed a meeting. (He went after the heroine)

Michael strode inside, circled the heavy equipment, and sat across from Blaéz on a workout bench. The old tee he wore looked like the moths had had a great time feasting on it. It didn't surprise Blaéz that the archangel was still here when he rarely stayed at the castle. It was expected after Blaéz had missed the “chat” last night.

Well, he’d been busy...stalking. He couldn’t make the meet.

Michael’s eerie blue eyes settled on him. They appeared like shattered sapphires, as if he’d lived through a brutal torture. The jagged pieces never quite fit anymore, allowing a strange silvery glow through.

“What’s going on?”

Time for his grilling. With no way to escape this one-on-one with the snarly male, Blaéz said, “You know what I am. Why the questions now?”

Michael picked up a three hundred pound weight and began his arm curls. “For centuries, every few months you disappear for days at a time. I gave you space, understood you needed it. But that time in Tartarus has long passed. You’re losing all your cognitive skills, ones that make you a Guardian. Sure, you do the job, but there’s a lack of care now.”

Blaéz heard the unasked question. Maybe he should have felt guilty that he cared so little about his own health, his life. After all, Michael had given up more than his status as the leader of the archangels, lost something irreplaceable to free him--free all of them from that hellish hole. And he’d chosen to stay on as their leader. Why anyone would want to take charge of moody, temperamental fallen ex-gods, Blaéz had no idea.

Still, he could never reveal the reality of what he’d done...still did, or where he disappeared to every few months. Days he could never speak off. The truth would crush the warriors.

He functioned on autopilot in his role as a Guardian. Nothing more than an automaton. It’s why meeting Darci, and the emotions that had unfurled so briefly, yanked him by the balls.

“You're becoming self-destructive,” Michael snapped.

He was way past self-destructive.

He reeked of Hell.

Couldn’t the Arc smell it on him?

Blaéz brushed the sweat from his brow and pounded harder on the fast moving belt. A slow burn started in his thigh muscles, followed by a trickle of pain. “It’s been three and a half millennia, you think I'm a loose cannon, then take me out.”

   Hi Everyone!

Well, summer is upon us, can you believe it?

I'm definitely ready for some rest and relaxation,
preferably under a shady umbrella on the beach,
with a stack of books and a cooler of tasty beverages!

For thirst-quenching beverages, I'm really into Project Juice these days

Tasty and healthy!

As for books... read on... :-)

SUMMER BEACH READS

Here are my series reading recs for your summer reading pleasure...

Diamond Moon Book cover

ROMANCE SNIPPET

My three "Moon" novellas for the Black Hills Wolves series feature the Luparell family. Each story stars one of the Luparell siblings. Here we have Dominant wolf Ross Luparell in a romantic moment with his fated wolf mate, Darci. (from DIAMOND MOON).

Under A Mating Moon Book cover ...he peppered her skin with slow, gentle kisses. He needed to take this slow. Mustn’t scare his mate.

When she reached out and stroked his hair, she made him the happiest man in all of Los Lobos.

Her breath left her in a sexy rush. “It’s as silky as it looks.” She bit her lip, her brow furrowing as if she hadn’t meant to say those words out loud.

He smiled. “Play away, Moonbeam.”

A shudder rolled through her. [...]

He burst to his feet. “Don’t move, Moonbeam.”

He strode around the table. She watched him come, hands clutched against her breasts, eyes wide, cheeks flushed a pretty pink.

He shifted her chair so she faced him then knelt before her. His gaze met hers at this level, an intimacy he fucking loved. He gripped her wrists and moved her unresisting hands to rest on his shoulders.

Her fingers curled, nails scraping his skin through his T-shirt, sending jolts of lust to his groin. “Why do you call me that?”

He gripped her knees and inched them apart, pleased when she didn’t object. She felt it, too, he was sure of it, the need for closeness created by the call of their Wolf-mate bond.

“Call you what?”

She slid her hands to his biceps. “Moonbeam.”

He pressed in close, closer. “Your skin. Pale as moonlight.” He glided his hands along her outer thighs, over her hips, to circle her waist.

“Oh.” She let out a delightful shudder and stared at him, her parted lips tempting him closer.

A growl escaped his throat. He closed the distance and kissed her.

Have a great June, Dear Readers, and see you back here on June 30th!

Celia

A Little Bit of Geek and a Whole Lot of Sexy....

Good morning. How's everyone been? Can you believe summer is almost over. Ack! Where does the time go?

Things have been a bit crazy in the cave lately. I've been revamping, moving stuff around and getting organized for the next few months in the writing cave. It's taken me a while to get over my mother's sudden passing, but I think I'm finally ready to keep forging onward.

My mom was one of the most kickass women I'd ever met. She took on being a single parent with gusto back when things like that simply weren't done, especially where we lived. Divorce was tantamount to sin back then. But Mom didn't care. She'd done right by her kids, and that's all that mattered.

When I sat down at the keyboard and decided it was time to write again I knew the series I did had to honor that tough resilience she'd raised us with. The thick skin and backbone I inherited from her (thank goodness, cause wow--publishing is ROUGH). Covert operations style romances with sexy badasses have always been a favorite of mine, one I'd been determined to do a series for. But, like most writers, I wanted my own personal spin on it.

Mary "The Edge" Reynolds and her vagabond team of brainiac BFFs sauntered into my brain and nested immediately. They were brilliant, proudly geek, and more than ready to take on all the brawn my Arsenal world offered. They didn't need a sexy, muscled man to save them, but they didn't mind having one by their side kicking ass along with them.

So, welcome to the Arsenal. Where the women are smart, sexy and a little on the awkward side when it comes to handling the former military badasses that've somehow become an instrumental part of their lives.

Together they've got some touch challenges ahead of them, but I suspect they won't have any problems. I can't help but think Mom would love Mary and all her friends. She'd probably be right there along with them.

We've all had those beautiful, brilliant influences in our lives. Who was yours?

Jagged Edge releases October 17th and is the first book in The Arsenal series. Pre-order your copy now.

Wrath and Ruin and Mick Jagger By Ripley Proserpina

In November 2015, I decided to try National Novel Writing Month. During Nano, the goal is to write 50,000 words in a month. With a few friends, I carved out time November 1st, and started. https://nanowrimo.org

It was the most fun I had writing a book. It was balls-to-the-wall, don’t think, just write, writing. And patches! There were these fantastic patches you could earn! I had no idea pretend patches could be motivating, but they were! I wanted them bad.

Before November, I had decided to write a story combining two of my favorite things—the Romanovs and The Rolling Stones. So during October’s dreary days, I researched the Romanovs, the Russian revolution, Russian folktales, and listened to Mick belt out Sympathy for Devil. Watch Mick Sing!

What came out of that month was Wrath and Ruin, and I honestly wasn’t sure I’d do anything with it. I sat on it for a year—wrote four other books in the meantime—but Wrath and Ruin was always in the back of my mind.

My critique partner encouraged me to submit it to a publisher, but I wasn’t sure. It wasn’t what I typically wrote. For one thing, it a fantasy romance, for another, it was young adult. Then the publisher of my reverse harem romances opened a new young adult publishing branch, Opal Moon Press, and it was kismet.

September 12th, Wrath and Ruin, finally releases, and I’m more nervous and excited for this book than I can handle. I open a vein with all my books, but for this one I cracked open my chest. I know I’m not the only writer who feels this way, so I’m sure I’ll have some company while I bite my nails and hope for the best. At least I’ll have Mick and Co. to keep me company.

With every wish made comes a curse…

Polya, wild and fierce, innocent and loyal, can credit her very existence to a wish her mother made for a prince’s love. The devil himself felt her mother’s ache and gave her everything she asked for.

Celia’s Spotlight on #Summerreads #Beachreads

Hello Dear Readers,

Celia Breslin here. ::waves::  I’m a new addition to the Decadent Diva team and happy to be chatting with you all on the 30th of every month, starting today!

We’re halfway through summer, and I’m having a blast hacking away at my towering To-Be-Read List, writing the third novel in my vampire series, and listening to my recently released Black Hills Wolves audio books.

Let's Read!

With one month of summer left for travel and leisure, I hope you have time to unwind with a good book. Here are some of my favorite, contemporary romance reads from summer vacay…

* Bleeding Stars, by A. L. Jackson (sexy musicians!)
* Mister O, by Lauren Blakely (total LOL romantic comedy)
* The Negotiator, by Avery Flynn (hot romantic comedy)
* Tall, Dark, and Texan series by Kate Meader (sexy men, kickass heroines)
* Billionaire Dynasty series by Virginia Nelson (sweet, sassy, sexy romance)

New In Audio

Like to listen to audio books? I have two new releases in paranormal romance!

Human-wolf hybrid Darci Diamond spends every full moon locked in auntie’s basement in Southern Oregon. Her excruciating shifts terrify her, the last one causing her heart to stop beating. Seeking a cure, she journeys to Los Lobos.

Ross Luparell returns to the struggling Tao pack, using his millions made in the tech industry to build homes for pack families in need. He never imagined he would also find his one true mate. But when a hybrid with the biggest green eyes he’s ever seen lands on his doorstep in the middle of a wicked summer storm, there’s no denying it. She’s the one.

She wants a normal human life, free from pain-filled shifts. He won’t give up on her Wolf, and will do whatever it takes to help her accept her true nature. But can he convince her to trust him with her heart?

British Alpha wolf Jake Marsden spends his days among humans, pursuing a lucrative music career and avoiding his pack’s politics. When his current DJ tour takes him to the US, he stops in Los Lobos and runs into the one Wolf he never wants to see again—the mate who rejected his claim.

While visiting Los Lobos, free-spirited Lexi Luparell is shocked to encounter the Wolf she’d denied when they were teens. Now she must face her guilt for the cruel way she spurned him all those years ago, make amends, and admit the truth. Jake was right all along—they’re meant to mate. Jake dates only human women now.

Lexi had her shot at being his mate, and she threw it away. But when her life is threatened, he may have to rethink his position and do whatever it takes to claim his one true mate.
