Extracting Mateo is LIVE

Hey everyone! Extracting Mateo is live! It's been available since July 9th, but with everything going on kid wise prepping for her senior year and my mom having several doc appointments and surgery twice, it's been touch and go posting wise! (All is well though with the parental unit.)

Michele and I aren't done yet though. We have two more books in R.O.O.T we're going to try to put out by November. Jaqueline's Quest and Exploiting Scotty. So stay tuned.

Now, without further ado, here is Extracting Mateo!

Blurb:

Noah Hanover doesn’t mix business with pleasure—ever. His relationship and subsequent marriage to Mateo Aquino, hasn’t even been a blip on his team’s radar. He enjoys the peace and quiet when he’s able to come home to his husband and telling anyone would destroy his secret double life.
High school history teacher, Mateo Aquino, loves his job and his kids and is always willing to help anyone in need. When a man approaches him appearing lost, Mateo is thrust into the middle of a war he had no idea was happening around him.
In order to save Mateo’s life, Noah must expose the one thing he liked to keep tucked away—his marriage. With the help of Noah’s teammates, John “Tex” Keegan, and two temporary new recruits for R.O.O.T: Scotty “Ears” Reisner and AJ “Two Hands” Hoover, Noah will set out to find his husband.
However, when the suspect escapes, Mateo and Noah are thrown into a new reality where Noah’s job is exposed, and the things Mateo took for granted are destroyed. Can Mateo accept Noah’s double life? Will Noah be able to track down Mateo’s kidnapper before he strikes again? Or, are they once again, running out of time?

Excerpt:
The door to the examination room opened, and there stood Noah. He’d removed the paint from his face, but his clothes were the same. Mateo didn’t know this man. Yes, it was his husband, yet not. He raked his gaze over Noah. He always appreciated his muscular body. Always enjoyed the hard lines and the way his lover cradled Mateo’s body to his. He figured Noah had a gym fetish or had seen Mateo’s admiration and continued to go to please him.
The corner of Noah’s mouth kicked upward. The bastard. He should hate his husband. “I see Doc Rae got you fixed up.”
Mateo sniffed as he slipped off the table. “Shouldn’t have had to.”
The cocky expression on Noah’s face disappeared. “You’re absolutely right.” Noah brought one of his arms out from behind his back. “We found this while clearing the building. Thought you could use it.”
His bag with his initials emblazoned on the front—a present from Noah after he’d graduated with a Master’s in history and found his first teaching position. The well-worn leather satchel went with Mateo everywhere. It was like a security blanket of sorts. A way to keep a piece of Noah with him, even when his husband wasn’t home. “Ev-everything’s inside still?”
Noah nodded. “Computer screen is trashed, but the hardware is still intact. Scotty and AJ are working as we speak to get the hard drive into one of our heavy-duty laptops. Your notes and paperwork from your students are still there as well. I-I couldn’t find your glasses though.”
“I can get those,” Rae said. “As long as you can tell me who your optometrist is.”
“It’s Dr. Gibbs at Virginia Beach Optical,” Mateo replied.
“Perfect. I’m sure Asher can get them expedited to you.”
Mateo let out a breath of relief. “I am still furious with you.”
Noah held up his hands. “He good to go, Doc?”
She nodded. “He is. I gave him instructions for tonight. Tomorrow, I’ll check on the stitches—see how he’s mending.”
“Thank you,” Noah said. “I appreciate it.”
“You’re both welcome, she replied then hesitated.
“Spit it out,” Noah grumbled.
“Nothing,” she stated. “Mateo, remember to keep your stitches moist.”
“I will.”
“And, Noah?”
“Yeah, Doc?” Noah glanced at her.
“Be gentle,” she said while grabbing something out of the drawer beside her. “Also, be safe.”
He cocked a brow as she closed the distance between them. “Always, Doc.” She placed several foil packets into his hands, and Noah roared with laughter before leaning into Mateo, who stared at the packaged disks in his husband’s hands. “Should you tell her, or should I?”

Never write while sleep deprived

**Yawns** forgive me if I ramble a bit today. I’m going on day three of having very little sleep. No, I have not been up all night writing. That would be nice.  I’ve had a few rough days and nights dealing with some personal issues. Enough said. Anywho…back to what I was talking about. Writing with very little sleep. Have you ever done it? Did you actually accomplish anything? Were you able to read it?
The reason I ask is that I have written while on little sleep. And trust me, it was not readable. But at the time, I had a great idea and it couldn’t wait. I had to write it now. Since I couldn’t sleep, I sat in my living room, laptop ready and began to type like a mad woman. The ideas rolled out of me in a flow I’ve never felt before. I couldn’t type fast enough, my fingers flew across the keyboard like lightning.  As I wrote I told myself this was the one that was going to take me to the top. Three hours later I had several chapters done and sleep was calling. I saved the document, then staggered off to bed. Despite being dog tired, I was hyped up about the epic novel I had just started. For the first time in days, I slept like a baby.
I should have stayed asleep.
Excited, I woke, ran to my laptop even before having breakfast and opened the document. I stared at the screen, blinking as if that would change what I saw before me. Nope, nothing changed. It was still crap.  There wasn’t a single sentence in the five chapters that made sense. I kid you not. Picture yourself, eyes closed, typing away. Now open your eyes. How well did you do? Probably better than I did while sleep deprived. My sentences looked similar to this.
Asdjoiefn gruhlasd ueoihas sa[ksdnkcfpos
Seriously! Yet in my mind, and in my sleep deprived vision I saw sentences of great writing. Paragraphs that were off the charts.

And do you think I could remember any of the idea when I woke? Nope, not a trickle came to me. How is that possible? People do strange things while sleep deprived. I wrote the greatest crap story ever written. I’ve learned my lesson. If I’m too tired to think, or I’ve gone days with little sleep, I don’t write.

He found her later when she was in the kitchen making cupcakes for Claire. A part of her had expected him to come. Another part had hoped he would. Still, she jumped a little as his deep voice wafted through the kitchen. “Were you checking out my butt?”
Her heart thrummed and she whirled around, holding her stirring spoon before her like a weapon. As though that could protect her from his raw allure. “W-what?”
He prowled into the room and leaned on the countertop of the island, his biceps bunching. He had his shirt on, but only in as much as it was draped over his shoulder. The sight of the broad slabs of his chest, that sprinkling of golden hair trailing down to his belt buckle, captured her attention. She tried not to gape. Really she did. He was gorgeous. Simply gorgeous.
The kitchen was a large and airy room. Still, he seemed to fill it up, heat it up.
“Were you checking out my butt?” he repeated. “Out there, in the yard?” Oh, she loved the playful lilt of his smile. That and the hint of vulnerability in his eyes, as though he didn’t know. As though he weren’t sure.
“No.”
His smile dropped and her belly with it.
She hurried to add, “I was checking out your chest. I didn’t get to your butt yet.” She twirled a finger. “Turn around.”
He did, and he even waggled it for her, but he held her gaze. His glimmered.
It sent heat licking through her, heat that was probably too intense, at least for a guy she’d just met. Well, kind of just met. Really just met. She didn’t know much about him except he was damn hot, and a firefighter, and ex-military. And Cody’s brother. If he was like Cody, it probably wasn’t a good idea to encourage a flirtation with him—no matter how sexy she found him. In fact, it probably wasn’t a good idea to encourage anything with him—until she knew him a little better.
Still, she gusted a melodramatic sigh. “I knew it was a good idea to come and stay at the infamous Stud Ranch.”
He barked a laugh and then made a face. “None of that was my idea, by the way.”
“Hmm.” She gave the frosting a stir. “Let me guess…”
“Yup. Cody. But I gotta admit, it did save the ranch.” He leaned over and peered at her work. “What are you making?”
“Butterscotch cupcakes.”
His eyes lit up. “Seriously?”
She waggled the spoon at him. “For Claire.”
He watched her with puppy dog eyes as she spooned frosting into the bag and piped it on in a practiced swirl. “She’ll never know if you give one to me.”
“I’m pretty sure she will.”
His lip pooched out. God, it was a beautiful lip. She tried not to stare. “What kind of frosting is it?” he asked in a woebegone voice.
“Maple bacon.”
“That sounds…dangerous.”
She grinned and scooped some from the bowl with a finger. Without thinking she held it out. “Wanna taste?”
His eyes flared. Muscles bunched. He took her wrist in a warm cuff and leaned forward and, easing her finger into his mouth…he sucked.
Too late, she realized her mistake.
She should never have allowed this man to put his mouth on her. For as he drew her into that warm, velvet cavern, lapping and nibbling on her tender skin—long after the frosting was gone—she realized she was an idiot for thinking she could just be friends with him. She was an idiot for imagining for a moment that she could resist his allure.
He was far too desirable.
Their gazes locked. A tumult, a conflagration passed between them. Without loosening his hold on her, he came around the counter and pulled her into his arms. And then, he kissed her.

Get it now!

Shari Nichols is Blogging Today with the Divas Spotlighting her New Release Witch Hunter

Witch Hunter
By Shari Nichols

Long before El James exploded on the scene with her debut novel Fifty Shades of Grey, also known in some circles as mommy porn, many authors came before her and penned their own brand of erotic romance. As a teenager, I can still recall sneaking into my sister’s room to peek at her very worn and tattered copy of the Harrod Experiment. It didn't matter that some pages were ripped or missing, this was hardcore sex and erotica, like I’d never read it before.

There are so many wonderful, erotic authors on the market today who write in this expanding genre. These are stories ripe with passion, love and emotional turmoil, and hot steamy sex as an added bonus. When people ask me what my book is about, I give them my tagline, In a desperate attempt to catch a killer, a special agent hires a notorious felon to come work for the agency. In the midst of the investigation, they succumb to the dark edges of desire, placing both their lives in danger. The next question that typically follows is always, “Wow, it soundssteamy like FiftyShades,” to which I reply, “It’s not a BDSM, but yes, it’serotic.”

What was once considered thebodice ripper novel is now simply a thing of the past. The romance genre has evolved over the years to include the exploration of relationshipsacross boundaries and between same sex partners. Now the book shelves and the e-readers are full of stories about M/F/ M/M/F/F or evenmultiplepartnerrelationships.

Let’s face it, erotic romance sells.Captivated By You, Book 2inSylvia Day’s Crossfire Series was number oneon the USAToday best sellers list last week and Fifty Shadesis still holding steady at number 34 on the list, even after its debut in February of 2013.

Recently, I was interviewed for a local newspaper. After sending out my press release with the caption, Local Erotic Author Debuts her First Novel, to get a buzz going. I never expected the writer to include my comment, “Books like these have opened up discussions such as sex and sexual fantasies that women can now talk about with friends and with their partner. Now the reader can freely explore more explicit levels of sensuality that were once left only to the imagination.” I didn’t   expect her to publish those exactwords. Now the entire town and all of my teenager’s friendsknow I write erotic romance.  What do you think? Is erotic romance still taboo?

I don’t think anyone should be too quick to assume erotic romance is a genre only about sex that features whips and chains, handcuffs and the random fetish to the exclusion of the story itself. These are tales about love and commitment, overcoming inner demonsand self-acceptance. Characters must learn to grow and worktoward their happily ever after, not to mention get tortured along the way. It’s one hell of a ride I encourage readers to take!

And who doesn’t want to fall in love? My dream was to make my readers experience that same headysensation of falling in love when they sit down to read one of my books. Many years back, I read an article about a research study conducted on the brain by a Harvard scientist.Apparently the emotional center of the brain can only sustain that falling in love feeling for up to three years, max. After that, those intense feelings grow and change into something deeper, less flighty, and the brain stops releasing large amounts of dopamine in the process. In some cases, people end up engaging in flirting, internet relationships and extramarital affairs, simply because they’re addicted to the dopamine release.

Can you become addicted to the euphoria? Here's a cure, why not pick up an erotic romance and fallinlove? Maybe you can practice and experiment with what you’veread? There’s nothing that compares to that feeling of bliss, even for a little while.

Two years ago, I attended the Popular Romance Authors Symposium at Princeton University.I was intrigued to hear so many perspectives on the origins of the romance genre from academics, to NY Times bestselling authors, and even a sociologist’sunique perspective. As a society,we’ve come so far in overcoming negative perceptions about self-sufficiency and the equity between the sexes. So let’s continue to evolve and grow! Why not pass the word? Erotic romance is alive and well. Here’s to falling in love!

Determined MBI (Magickal Bureau of investigations)agent Alex Denopoulos will stop at nothing to catch a killer, including recruit notorious felon, Willow McCray to work for the agency. The lines between duty and passion become blurred the more time he spends with the sultry witch. In the midst of the investigation, they succumb to the dark edges of desire, placing both their lives in danger. Alex will risk more than his badge to keep her alive.

Kick-ass witch Willow must use her powers for good if she wants to stay out of Hellios, a mage prison for those who have broken the Wiccan Rede of ‘Harm ye None.’ Willow never expects to fall so hard for Alex, a mortal with a penchant for justice and a deep seated hatred of witches. Though a future together seems impossible, she doesn’t want to let him go. If only she can vanquish the evil surrounding them and give Alex what he wants, her mind and body-before she loses her heart and maybe her very soul in the process.

Excerpt:
Willow took a sip of her margarita and glanced down at Alex’s big hands, tanned and sprinkled with a smattering of dark hair. Funny, she never found a man’s hands sexy. Suddenly her mind filled with images of Alex trailing those big, masculine hands over her body. She wondered if he fit the stereotype. Big hands, big…
“You never did answer my question. Are you considering taking me up on my offer?” The sound of his voice pulled her from a host of fantasies. Willow dug her nails into her palm to get her head back in the game. She shouldn’t be thinking about this man in such a raw, sexual way.
“Why not? My car’s parked in the back.”She probed through the nearby crowd to check if Alex came here with bodyguards. A virtual cacophony of conversations invaded her thoughts, but nothing about protection for Alex. Once she got him alone, she’d take her chances and pray she wouldn’t be outnumbered. “Then let’s get out of here. Unless of course I’ve got some competition.” He   motioned over her shoulder to the incubus whose head now lolled forward over the bar.
“I think you’re flying solo here.” She’d set her trap and let the consequences be damned. She rubbed her finger along the rim of the glass and licked off the salt.
She lifted the glass to her lips, savoring the tangy flavor of margarita mix along with the zing of tequila as it slid down her throat. Headrush. No surprise there, she couldn’t remember the last time she’d slept or eaten in the past forty-eight hours, existing on a combination of raw nerves and pure adrenaline.
“You missed a spot.” He ran his thumb along the seam of her lip. He put it to his mouth and licked. “Mmm, sweet.” Her plan didn’t involve foreplay…but damn he was hot. In another time and another place she would be seriously into this guy. Too bad I might have to kill him.

COWBOYS NEVER FOLD – Award-Winning Author Lexi Post – When a cowboy honors a promise by working at a nudist resort, he discovers that to win the heart of the sexy owner he will have to go all-in, but that could mean baring more than his soul.

Excerpt #1
Wade took the plate from her and brought it to the sink. “I’ll just wash these up for Selma and head to bed.”
Kendra was off the stool and grabbing the sprayer before he could reach it. “No. You made the meal for me. I can clean up. You’ve probably had a long day. When did you get up?”
He shrugged. “Probably around five. I didn’t really pay attention.”
“Exactly. I’ll stay and clean up. Go get a good night’s sleep. You have a lot of ordering to do tomorrow based on your lists.”
His eyes widened. “You really approve of everything?”
She put her other hand on her hip. “Listen. I don’t know anything about horses. All I know is what nudists like based on research. I’ll come up with something for the nude riding, but I need an expert to set up my stables and trails. You’re that expert. I’m not going to get in the way of that.”
He smiled, his eyes almost twinkling in his excitement. “Well then, boss. I definitely need to be doing the dishes for you.”
He reached for the sprayer and without thinking, she pulled it out and sprayed him.
“Oh my God, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to.” She stared as the shirt conformed to Wade’s body, the contours of his chest coming out in full relief. Turning away from the titillating sight, she grabbed a couple hand towels hanging next to the sink. She just didn’t want him to do the dishes. Now he would think she was the worst boss in the state.
Turning back to help him dry off, she froze. Wade had taken off his shirt, revealing his moist chest and arms. The man’s pectorals were what she called mountain muscles and the wet hair that formed a line straight down the middle of his rippled abdominals disappeared beneath blue jeans being held up by a big-buckled belt. She tried to look at his face but was drawn to his large biceps, which had been hidden by the shirt. She followed those to his shoulders where more muscle explained why he appeared so broad. He was. The man was walking muscle.
“Are those for me?”
His voice snapped her out of her drool-like state, and she looked him in the eye. The man’s lips formed a slow smirk.
“Yes. Here.” She gave him the towels and he pushed one back at her.
“Can you dry my back? That water sprayer is strong.”
“Right, of course.” She was bumbling like an idiot, but what woman wouldn’t be. Damn, the man was built. He made her feel petite despite being taller than average. He had to be well over six feet. Stepping behind him, she was treated to another tantalizing view. As he wiped at his chest and arms, the muscles in his back danced, showing the many layers he had. She hesitated to touch him. He would be warm and so male.
“Isn’t it wet?” He rolled his shoulders. “It feels like it.”
“Yes. Yes, it is.” She forced herself to use the towel against his skin, careful not to let her hand touch him. If it did, she wouldn’t be able to stop. She wiped at the moisture until he was dry, then took a deep breath and stepped around him, tossing the towel on the sink. “I’m sorry. I was just trying to keep you from washing the dishes.”
“No harm. I’ve been wet before.” His smile appeared again, and she had the strongest urge to kiss it.
Switching her weight to her right hip, she crossed her arms. “Well, I guess now you have to let me do the dishes.” She meant to sound flippant, but didn’t carry it off well.
He held out his towel. “Yup. Definitely got your way…this time.”
She uncrossed her arms to take the towel and crushed it against her chest. “Have a good night.”
He shrugged his large shoulders, causing her insides to tighten. Why did she have to be so susceptible to broad shoulders, and why did he have to have the most muscular ones she’d ever seen?
“It all depends on the bed.” He winked and brushed past her. Their arms touched for a second, his clean male scent, which was stronger now without his shirt, washed over her and almost buckled her knees.
She couldn’t resist and turned to watch him walk away, his back teasing her with its muscle play until the batwing doors swung closed behind him.
She pulled the damp towel up to her face and inhaled. God, the man smelled good. Damn. Built, well mannered, organized, knowledgeable and with a dark tan above his waist that made her want to crawl down his pants to see how far it went.

She groaned. Tan to the waist meant he was outside without a shirt more often than not. “Hell.” She was definitely screwed…or rather wanted to be. Could she ask Dale for another replacement stable manager?
