Wednesday Antics ~ Bearing It All is Coming Soon!

Good Wednesday morning, Divas and Divos! Michele and I are so freaking busy, I can't even explain it properly. We're in the midst of writing five books right now, with Caden being by far the largest we have written. (He should come in somewhere around 110k)

However, we do have a new release coming soon! March 15th to be exact! We're so proud of our TSU (Turnskin University) series. We're on to book 3, with hopefully Silence isn't Golden book 4 and One Night with A Wolf book 5 out sometime this fall.

Until then, you can catch up with Unrequited Mate here and Sorority Row here!

Blurb:

Emma Monte has three really big secrets. One, she’s the guardian of her little sister Cassidy. Two, she loves everything 80’s inspired and three, she’s throwing the biggest wedding she can for her friends—okay, so maybe the second isn’t really a secret. When she’s invited to spend spring break with Hayden and her family in Window Rock, Arizona, all of her secrets will be revealed.

Bodhi Raferty has been biding his time. He knows the little bear is his mate, but he’s willing to wait—if it means spending more time with her. When the opportunity arises to go home, he ready to take that final step and claim Emma for his own. However, his mate is hiding something huge. The only question is, can he help her pull it off?

Bodhi and Emma aren’t the only ones in for a surprise. As the week’s events unfold, there is a pair of Rafertys ready to be introduced, and they have the ability to upstage them all.

Excerpt:

Emma stepped out of the truck, bag in hand, and took in her surroundings. From the porch, a man, who looked suspiciously like Bodhi called out, announcing their arrival. A mass of people, and she didn't use the term lightly, exited the house. Emma took a step back and ran into Bodhi, who grunted.

“Easy, pinky. Nothing to be afraid of. They’re family.” He wrapped his arm around “her middle.

She sucked in a breath. Her heart hammered. He. Was. Touching. Her. The warmth and security he offered her, soothed some of her nerves, but also made her anxious in another way. “Thanks.”

He leaned down. “You’re welcome.” His lips brushed the shell of her ear, and she thought she’d died and gone to heaven.

As the adults exited the house, she noticed one thing straight away. They were like Bell's co-ed house. All of them were different, yet they fit together. Misfits. Three people stepped forward. A curvy woman, rounded by her pregnant belly, along with a man who looked just like Bodhi, and another man with white-blond hair and light-green eyes.

Bodhi urged her forward. “Mom. Dads. This is Emma.”

The man who looked like Bodhi stepped forward. The minute he smiled, his whole appearance changed. His harsh features softened. “You did good, son.” The man stopped in front of her. “I’m Jace. My mates are Loraine and Blake.” He held his hand out to her.

Emma rubbed her hand on her jean-shorts worried it might be sweaty. When she placed her palm in Jace’s he embraced her. The tight hug was filled with love and welcoming. Tears sprung to her eyes. She hadn’t been hugged like that since her mom and dad. “Hi,” she murmured.

“Don’t hog her all to yourself,” the woman said, placing her hand on her belly.

“Precious,” Jace growled, the sound vibrated through Emma.

“Yeah, don’t be an asshole,” Blake stated. “We want our turn, too.” He winked at Emma “when she glanced at him.

Jace released her and she was enveloped by a very pregnant, very happy woman. “It’s so good to have you here. Bodhi has told us all about you.”

Had he? Holy guacamole. “It’s nice to meet you, too. Thank you for allowing us to stay with you.”

The woman laughed, and it filled Emma’s soul with happiness. “Don’t thank us, yet.”

Blake was next. He held her hands, then spun her around. She giggled. Her cheeks heated when he gave a curt nod. “Yep, my son did well. Very good.”

“Mom!” Hayden pushed through everyone standing around and gathered Loraine in her arms. “Oh my God. Look at you!” She placed her hand on the woman’s belly. “I can’t believe we’re here. I can’t believe we’ll have a baby soon.”

“Didn’t Blake tell you?” Jace hugged her.

Hayden shook her head no.

“Babies, squirt,” Jace said.

“Babies?” Hayden squealed as she bounced in place. “Do you know the sex?”

Jace shook his head. “We want it to be a surprise.”

On the porch stood a large man. He had a protective arm wrapped around a woman who reminded her of, well, herself. He held onto her like Bodhi had done to her, and though she didn’t want to read into it, she hoped it meant what she thought it did.

“Whoa . . . their family is huge,” Cassidy said, coming up next to her. “Have you ever?”

Emma shook her head. “Never.”

“Do you think they’ll eat us?”

She laughed and pulled her sister to her side. “No way. Do you want to meet everyone?”

Is There Such a Thing as "Too Hot" in Erotic Romance?

Let me start by saying, I published my first romance over twenty years ago. Back then, you couldn’t use profanity, most love scenes were off camera, or dealt with very carefully and always between married heterosexual couples.

There was no ménage à trois, no same-sex romp between the sheets, no multi-cultural romance, and heaven help you if you tried to sneak in a little S&M. You were promptly branded a writer of pure smut and likely banned from submitting to certain publishers.

Slowly but surely the reins began to loosen. First, it was Silhouette Intimate Moments and a very few Harlequin Presents. With their titillating success, the other big NY publishers brought out their own lines that pushed the boundaries, allowed on-screen love scenes and even the risqué oral sex. Oh my!

Gone were the days of cock teasing, of using euphemisms in place of the real thing. Now, not only did the hero and heroine openly declare their utmost desires, they acted on them. Sure, there were still the purists, those that believed in preserving our chastity. And, bless them, the publishers maintained those sweet lines that still sell very well today.

However, the biggest surge in sales has come in the steamier lines. Even Harlequin, the one last major hold out in publishing erotic romance, has finally seen the light and begun their own line complete with language and all the other aspects once considered strictly off limits.

The sexual revolution began in contemporary romances, presumably where the author felt more comfortable expressing their more lurid instincts. Slowly, though, it moved backward in time finally challenging the historical moors. I actually began my erotic journey in historical, first with The Muse and then with my award-winning novella, The Mysterious Mrs. Pennybaker. Both are set in the Roaring Twenties...a time when everything we now see as normal was considered risqué but still took place. In abundance.

In The Muse, Nancy Fraser brings her characters to life, weaves a believable ménage, and the sensual eroticism is brilliantly written. When I wanted more, I acknowledged Ms. Fraser wrote a fantastic story! ~ Top 100 Amazon Reviewer

For The Mysterious Mrs. Pennybaker, two men are always better than one. I loved the descriptions and the feeling of actually being in the Roaring 20's. ~ Cutting Muse Blog Review

I write erotic romance and I love it. The idea of creating something so sensual, so graphic, appeals to me. Not because I’m a dirty old lady or a pervert, but because there is something primal about two (or three) people expressing their utmost desires together. One of my favorite challenges came when I was tasked with turning the Grimm Brothers’ fairy tale, The Devil’s Sooty Brother, into an erotic romance. The end result, Do You Want Me, not only tackles the fairy tale but also the Irish Mob, a soldier’s code of ethics, some extremely hot sex, and the formerly taboo multiple partners.

Do You Want Me is a great read that kept me going from start to finish. It was a real page turner that I just did not want to put down. ~ Long and Short Reviews

There are still avenues I haven’t tried and may never. Not because I’m a prude (obviously), but because it’s not an area that interests me. My measuring stick for what I’ll attempt to write is based on what I like to read. However, like most measuring devices, the stick can be moved.

If you’d have told me two years ago that I’d write a sci-fi erotic romance, I’d have adamantly shook my head and said “no way”. Yet, this past summer, Decadent Publishing released The Vessel, and wow has it been a fun ride! The book contains a map of war-ravaged North America and features a by-the-book military hero and a wise-cracking, alien princess heroine.

Like my other military-hero book, Do You Want Me, The Vessel is written entirely from the hero's point-of-view. This was something new for me. However, because I personally consider the military man the ultimate alpha hero, I endeavored to tell the stories as I felt they would see it.

The Vessel is a must-read for fans of erotica and science fiction alike. I can’t recommend it highly enough! – Long and Short Reviews

Still the question looms (even for those of us who believe the steamer, the better), is there such a thing as too hot?

As a multi-published author, I have worked with a half dozen different publishers and currently actively write for four. Here’s what I believe is and will always remain taboo:

Parent/Child Incest – Sibling incest has become less of a taboo as long as there’s a non-related third party involved.

Pedophilia – The one taboo that will never, and should never, be lifted.

Bestiality – A gray area with shifter romances, but still nobody should be doing it with the family dog!

Other than the recognized no-nos mentioned above, pretty much anything goes in today’s erotic romance. And that possibility excites me. I’m looking forward to my next erotic historical challenge...a story of sibling rivalry set in ancient Rome. Think of all the possibilities!

What do you still consider to be out of bounds? What is your favorite kinky fix? Inquiring minds want to know!

Until next month, stay healthy, stay happy, stay well read!

Drakons are Here to Stay!

Popular or not, drakons are here to stay!

The publishing industry moves in cycles. Some years it’s all about billionaires and other years secret babies are popular or historical romance or vampires. You get the picture. But honestly, I really don’t know any dedicated romance readers who pay much attention to the trends. They know what they like and manage to find it.

The industry has changed a lot in the past fifteen years with the advent of ebooks and now self-publishing. Readers no longer have to wait for books to be popular in order to find a book they want to buy. I also love that there are dedicated epublishers out there willing to take a chance on an idea that may not fit the mainstream as well.

Which brings me to drakons—the offspring of dragons who visited our world about 4000 years ago and human women. They practically immortal, but really have no idea how long they’ll live. They have the cunning, strength, preternatural abilities, and instincts of the dragon, along with the intellect and emotions of a human. A deadly combination. And unlike their sires, their base form is that of a human. While their dragon fathers could hold a human form for a short span of time, a drakon can inhabit either human or dragon form indefinitely.

As you can well imagine, living in modern times does pose some unique challenges. When they shift to their dragon form, where can they fly? And how can they risk falling in love when they’re hunted for their blood, which prolongs the lives of humans.

They’re my creation and I love them. Or rather, they are allowing me to write their stories. Honestly, I’ve always said that writing for me is like taking dictation. I sit at the keyboard and wait for the characters to speak. And after more than 13 years of publishing and 90+ books it seems to work for me.

My modern drakons evolved from a futuristic novella I wrote for a now closed publisher more than a decade ago. I wanted to write more drakon stories, but this time I wanted to bring them into the modern world...our world. And thus was born the Blood of the Drakon series. The fourth book is due out on January 29th and I couldn’t be happier. And I’m not done yet. There are more drakon books coming.

Drakon’s Past

Blood of the Drakon, Book 4

Constance Owens has a gift for finding unique items in the most unlikely places, which comes in handy since she buys and sells artifacts and antiques for a living. When she purchases a set of four dragon statues, she has no idea just how unique they are, or that finding them will thrust her into a world of secret societies, men who think nothing of kidnapping and murder to get what they want, and dragon shifters.

Nic hasn’t survived for four thousand years by letting his guard down, and he doesn’t trust anyone except his drakon brothers. The loneliness haunting him has been getting worse since all his brothers have found their mates. And when he finds the woman his drakon recognizes instantly as his fated mate, he doubts he’ll ever have what his brothers have, because it seems she’s involved with the secret society of hunters who have been hunting and capturing his kind for hundreds of years.

An interview, or a plot

I recently did something a little…different.  I organized a meeting  between the characters in my books, Awaken the Demon (Draco and Missy) and The Naughty Angel (Ariel and Edison) because I felt they had a lot in common. Edison and Draco are both demons, and Missy and Ariel being very similar in personalities as in being more passive, yet being strong determined women. Because Edison and Ariel are wanted by heaven and hell for treason, this encounter had to be cloaked for their safety. The meeting took place at Draco and Missy’s mansion, which Draco equipped with plenty of guards for their protection.

Because I secretly recorded them, the discussions below are written down,  so you will have to use your imagination as to what they are doing as they speak. Here is a rundown of what occurred.

***************************************************************
Draco: Welcome to our home. I hope your travels were uneventful?
Edison: Thanks to your guards and the cloaking spell. Wow, this place is incredible.  Bet you hold some pretty awesome parties here.
Missy: We’re really not much of the partying type. I must say, I’ve never been in the presence of an angel before. I’m quite…uneasy.
Ariel: There’s no need. I’m no different than you, really.
Edison: Don’t let her sweetness fool you. She can be a nasty bitch when she wants to. Ouch!
Draco: I must say, when Shiela came to me with the idea of having us meet I was quite hesitant.
Missy: “Hesitant. You threatened to disembowel her.”
Draco: As well I should. Just the thought of me being in the same room with an angle is preposterous.
Missy: Please forgive my husband. He can be a bit of an ass at times.
Ariel: I understand the concern. When I heard she wanted us to meet with the two of you I was very nervous. You are, after all, Draco, a descendant from Satan himself.
Edison: I was thrilled and couldn’t wait to meet you. I’ve heard all the tales about you, good and bad. It’s an honor to finally meet you.
Ariel: You’re drooling, Edison.
Edison: You would drool too, if you were in the presence of Jesus. Aw, fuck, I don’t mean to compare you to Jesus. That was stupid.
Missy: Relax Edison. We understand. Can I offer the two of you a drink?
Edison: Hell yeah. Scotch, neat.
Ariel: Water will be fine for me, thank you.
*Feet shuffling. *Glasses clinking. *
Ariel: I must admit, I really don’t understand Shiela’s motivation in having us get together. Thank you.” *Sounds of sipping.*
Missy: She is a baffling woman. I found trying to get inside her head and figuring out her motivations frustrating. She put Draco and I through so much, twisting our stories about, changing what actually happened to her liking.
Draco: I told you long ago, my love, that I could control her mind and have her tell our story properly.
Missy: “And I told you to leave her be. She’s entitled to her creativity even if it is—“
Draco:  Wrong. She made me sound so…passive.
Missy: She put the event in which you killed Vincent in the book despite my pleading for her not to.
Draco: And she made it seem so tame.
Missy: She wanted readers to like you, not fear you.
Draco: I am to be feared.
Missy: Yes, dear.
Ariel: She left out some key points in my story as well. Deciding to do a one night stand took a great deal of deliberation for me. She made it seem like it was nothing for me to turn on my beliefs and my loyalties and take a man to my bed whom I would never see again. I struggled for months with my decision.
Edison: And I am forever grateful for your decision.
Missy: Was it hard for you both to turn on your beliefs and leave your families behind in order to be together?
Ariel: You would know better than anyone what love can do. No, it wasn't easy for me to step away from my kind, but at the same time, I couldn’t deny my needs any longer.
Edison: Boy does she have needs. Let me tell you, this woman is a hell of a lover. The things she does to me— Ouch! Why do you keep pinching me?
Ariel: Because you keep saying stupid things.  I felt Shiela made me a little too slutty—and if you open your mouth to that demon I will strike you down.
**Snickers**
Missy: I wonder what she has done with her other characters.
Draco: I heard she created a bunch of vampires who fight on the good and kill their own kind.
Edison: Get out! That is messed up. Tame vampires. *Snorts*
Ariel: I could search them out. It wouldn’t take much time for me to gather them.
Missy: That’s an interesting thought.
Ariel: Isn’t it though.
Edison: We could gather everyone together, get their take on her and then write a tell all book. Shit, if she can do it, we can do it.
Missy: But how could we do this without her knowledge?
Draco: Leave that to me, my love.
Missy: You have wanted to control her since the first edition she wrote of you.
Draco: Damn straight!
Ariel: We don’t want her harmed, though.
Draco: I won’t harm her. But it might be fun toying with her a little.”
Missy: Draco, behave.
Edison: Why do you think it is that she likes taking the bad and making it good?
Draco: Human nature. They always want things to have a happy ending.
Ariel: Well, she did give us all a happy ending didn’t she. I mean, sure, she changed us a little, altered some of the facts, but in the end, she gave us what we most desired.
Missy: Love.
Ariel: Exactly.
Draco: Fine, she brought love into our lives, but come on, she tamed us. She made demons and vampires friendly. That’s just not right
Edison: You got that right. I suppose these vampires don’t drink from humans, do they?
Draco: Only from their mates.
Edison: That is sick.
Draco: So are we all in agreement that we should gather the others and write Shiela’s story?
Missy: Ariel: Edison: Let’s do it.
Draco: Then it’s set.

********************************************************************

Quite something, isn’t it? Here I thought getting a few of my characters together, ones I thought might benefit from each other was a good idea. Little did I know they would plot against me.  Sigh…If anyone knows of some good protection spells, please give me a call. I’m going to need them.
