An interview, or a plot

I recently did something a little…different.  I organized a meeting  between the characters in my books, Awaken the Demon (Draco and Missy) and The Naughty Angel (Ariel and Edison) because I felt they had a lot in common. Edison and Draco are both demons, and Missy and Ariel being very similar in personalities as in being more passive, yet being strong determined women. Because Edison and Ariel are wanted by heaven and hell for treason, this encounter had to be cloaked for their safety. The meeting took place at Draco and Missy’s mansion, which Draco equipped with plenty of guards for their protection.

Because I secretly recorded them, the discussions below are written down,  so you will have to use your imagination as to what they are doing as they speak. Here is a rundown of what occurred.

***************************************************************
Draco: Welcome to our home. I hope your travels were uneventful?
Edison: Thanks to your guards and the cloaking spell. Wow, this place is incredible.  Bet you hold some pretty awesome parties here.
Missy: We’re really not much of the partying type. I must say, I’ve never been in the presence of an angel before. I’m quite…uneasy.
Ariel: There’s no need. I’m no different than you, really.
Edison: Don’t let her sweetness fool you. She can be a nasty bitch when she wants to. Ouch!
Draco: I must say, when Shiela came to me with the idea of having us meet I was quite hesitant.
Missy: “Hesitant. You threatened to disembowel her.”
Draco: As well I should. Just the thought of me being in the same room with an angle is preposterous.
Missy: Please forgive my husband. He can be a bit of an ass at times.
Ariel: I understand the concern. When I heard she wanted us to meet with the two of you I was very nervous. You are, after all, Draco, a descendant from Satan himself.
Edison: I was thrilled and couldn’t wait to meet you. I’ve heard all the tales about you, good and bad. It’s an honor to finally meet you.
Ariel: You’re drooling, Edison.
Edison: You would drool too, if you were in the presence of Jesus. Aw, fuck, I don’t mean to compare you to Jesus. That was stupid.
Missy: Relax Edison. We understand. Can I offer the two of you a drink?
Edison: Hell yeah. Scotch, neat.
Ariel: Water will be fine for me, thank you.
*Feet shuffling. *Glasses clinking. *
Ariel: I must admit, I really don’t understand Shiela’s motivation in having us get together. Thank you.” *Sounds of sipping.*
Missy: She is a baffling woman. I found trying to get inside her head and figuring out her motivations frustrating. She put Draco and I through so much, twisting our stories about, changing what actually happened to her liking.
Draco: I told you long ago, my love, that I could control her mind and have her tell our story properly.
Missy: “And I told you to leave her be. She’s entitled to her creativity even if it is—“
Draco:  Wrong. She made me sound so…passive.
Missy: She put the event in which you killed Vincent in the book despite my pleading for her not to.
Draco: And she made it seem so tame.
Missy: She wanted readers to like you, not fear you.
Draco: I am to be feared.
Missy: Yes, dear.
Ariel: She left out some key points in my story as well. Deciding to do a one night stand took a great deal of deliberation for me. She made it seem like it was nothing for me to turn on my beliefs and my loyalties and take a man to my bed whom I would never see again. I struggled for months with my decision.
Edison: And I am forever grateful for your decision.
Missy: Was it hard for you both to turn on your beliefs and leave your families behind in order to be together?
Ariel: You would know better than anyone what love can do. No, it wasn't easy for me to step away from my kind, but at the same time, I couldn’t deny my needs any longer.
Edison: Boy does she have needs. Let me tell you, this woman is a hell of a lover. The things she does to me— Ouch! Why do you keep pinching me?
Ariel: Because you keep saying stupid things.  I felt Shiela made me a little too slutty—and if you open your mouth to that demon I will strike you down.
**Snickers**
Missy: I wonder what she has done with her other characters.
Draco: I heard she created a bunch of vampires who fight on the good and kill their own kind.
Edison: Get out! That is messed up. Tame vampires. *Snorts*
Ariel: I could search them out. It wouldn’t take much time for me to gather them.
Missy: That’s an interesting thought.
Ariel: Isn’t it though.
Edison: We could gather everyone together, get their take on her and then write a tell all book. Shit, if she can do it, we can do it.
Missy: But how could we do this without her knowledge?
Draco: Leave that to me, my love.
Missy: You have wanted to control her since the first edition she wrote of you.
Draco: Damn straight!
Ariel: We don’t want her harmed, though.
Draco: I won’t harm her. But it might be fun toying with her a little.”
Missy: Draco, behave.
Edison: Why do you think it is that she likes taking the bad and making it good?
Draco: Human nature. They always want things to have a happy ending.
Ariel: Well, she did give us all a happy ending didn’t she. I mean, sure, she changed us a little, altered some of the facts, but in the end, she gave us what we most desired.
Missy: Love.
Ariel: Exactly.
Draco: Fine, she brought love into our lives, but come on, she tamed us. She made demons and vampires friendly. That’s just not right
Edison: You got that right. I suppose these vampires don’t drink from humans, do they?
Draco: Only from their mates.
Edison: That is sick.
Draco: So are we all in agreement that we should gather the others and write Shiela’s story?
Missy: Ariel: Edison: Let’s do it.
Draco: Then it’s set.

********************************************************************

Quite something, isn’t it? Here I thought getting a few of my characters together, ones I thought might benefit from each other was a good idea. Little did I know they would plot against me.  Sigh…If anyone knows of some good protection spells, please give me a call. I’m going to need them.

When a Writer Stops Writing

I've been writing for a very long time. I believe it started in middle school with short stories and poems. Then I got married, popped out a couple babies, moved out, got divorced, graduated college, then decided to write again.

I've spent the last six years writing off and on. I've even published a few books, then unpublished a few books, then finally left my two favorite novels published on Amazon. It's true what they say, "No one is more critical of you than you."

People ask me why I unpublished some stories and frankly it's because I didn't feel as they were up to par. My heart wasn't in those stories, not really. To really pour my heart and soul into a story it needs my undivided attention. Sure I've written before while having a day job but my day job then was a lot less demanding than it is now. I used to eat, sleep, and breathe my stories but now it's become harder and harder to dive back into that world.

So what's a writer to do when there's nothing to write? Study? Figure out the answers to life's biggest questions? Learn how to paint? Become a conspiracy theorist? Cook? Who knows?

What I do though is blog. Blogging has saved me a few times. Every time I feel that spark begin to light back up again but I don't have the time to dedicate to writing a full blown story I'll blog or write a little and move on. Life has wrapped it's hands around my throat and has taken control between the day job, the family, the house, and studying for my real estate license I'm spread completely thin. So blogging gives me that outlet I so desperately need.

Do I always know what to blog about? Hell no! As I'm typing right now every single word is finding it's way to the screen without much thought put behind it. What you see is what you get. But that's what I like about blogging. It doesn't have to be perfect, it doesn't have to be edited, it just has to be real. (Some editing may not be a bad idea but nevertheless you get the point.)

I also read. Again, when I can. I try to focus more on the shorter stories or novellas because as bad as it sounds I just don't have the time to dedicate to a full blown novel. Maybe one day I will or maybe during the holidays I'll cram in some reading time but right now I just don't have it unfortunately. I've been desperately wanting to read Colleen Hoover's new book 'Without Merit' but I haven't had a chance to crack open the first page. I've downloaded it though. ;-)

I've fallen in love with the Misadventure series. If you haven't heard of it please go here and look it up --->   Misadventures FB Page

The latest book in this series is Misadventures of a Valedictorian. I haven't read this one yet but the others are fantastic! They have a new book released every week and these stories are full of hotness!!

This is what I believe most writers do who find themselves unable to write. We blog, we read, we spend time on Facebook jealous of those who can still write, we find ourselves at book signings and events soaking in the sweet air of creativity, and we promote the authors that we love. Because that's what this community does for each other.

Thanks for reading! If you are looking for me I'll be over here eating cake, drinking wine, and attempting to study for this damn real estate exam.

Hugs,
Amber

Let the Holiday Parties Begin!

Here we are. The first weekend in Saturday, so you know what that means. The start of the holiday party season. If you're like me, you're already booked from now until New Year's.

On this day I am gathering with my fellow chapter members of the Greater Seattle RWA for some food and festivities. We celebrate the accomplishments we made during the year with roses going to those who have sold or released a book, reward those who have met the most goals, and announce who will head the next year's board.

The main event is the white elephant gift exchange. For us, it's all about the wrapping. You won't know what's inside until all of the exchanges and steals have been made, and that's what makes it interesting. I love seeing how creative everyone is with their wrapping. The gift may be wrapped extravagantly with lots of ribbons, or as simple as a gift card tucked into an old Harlequin. Then there's Christa McHugh who one year presented Bondage Barbie. Yes, it was as spectacular as it sounds.

As for me, I've wrapped gifts in gingerbread (yes, I made a huge box out of gingerbread) and rice crispy treats. A few years ago I began the men series. First was the collage of superheroes, then last year were men wearing only Santa hats. Word of warning- make sure the room is free of children before googling "naked Christmas men." I know that should be obvious, but really, it's as racy as you think.

This year I'm continuing the theme of handsome men, and you all get to be the first to see my handiwork. Ta-da!

Oh yes, All six sides are covered in lovely photos of men in kilts. I wish this wrapping paper really existed. I know the men in my family would be ecstatic to receive a gift from me wrapped in all of this gorgeousness. :)

So where ever your holiday plans take you, be happy, be merry, and think sexy thoughts.

Till next time!

Celebrate Veteran's Day with Anna Richland and His Road Home

What better way to celebrate Veteran's Day than a story about a veteran written by a veteran.

His Road Home is a spin-off story from Anna Richland's Immortal Viking Series and is the perfect story to read in time for the holidays. And not only do we have an excerpt, we also have my interview with Anna about military men and her research on classic cars. :)

“Tantalizing … a raw, emotional story.” – PUBLISHERS WEEKLY (Starred Review)

To avoid insulting a matchmaking Afghan warlord, Special Forces medic Rey Cruz needs to find a fiancée, fast. He never expects to see the hometown girl whose downloaded photo he uses in an engagement picture, because he’s pounding sand half a world away.
Until the day he’s flat on his back in a military hospital and the woman whose life he blew apart with a suddenly world-famous engagement walks into the room. He’d love to tell Grace Kim how his lie started and set everyone–her boss, the press and their families–straight. Love to, but he can’t. He can’t talk. Can’t write. Can’t get either of them out of the mess his bright idea caused.
Marine Fisheries statistician Grace Kim is shocked to find out she’s engaged to a hero. When she’s offered a plane ticket to visit her “fiancé,” she takes it, but the soldier she meets isn’t what she expected and doesn’t have any answers.
Army Strong
By the time Rey convinces her to help drive his classic muscle car across the country, Grace knows how to play the role of caring fiancée. Thanksgiving with kind strangers in South Dakota makes Grace wonder what place she’ll have in Rey’s new life once he’s finally home.

Excerpt:
“I understand Sergeant Cruz is unmarried.” Abdullah shared the tribal leader’s words. “I humbly offer him one of my daughters.”
While Dostum watched like a one-eyed, toothless cupid cradling an AK-47 instead of a bow and arrow, Cruz forced himself to obey the rules for breathing before a five-mile high parachute jump: inhale steadily, no gulps, no matter what instinct urged, no matter that he could barely keep his lips from puckering with rejection. “That’s–”
“Shut up.” The interpreter’s voice quavered. “He’s giving you a gift that matters a hell of a lot to him and in his mind, doing you a favor. Half these men can’t afford to get married, and if you throw his daughter in his face, the insult might make them open fire.”
The air stopped moving except for two flies close to Cruz’s cheek. An insider attack: when a local soldier snaps and kills his allies. Green-on-blue, briefings called it.
“Get me out of it.” He missed his former teammate Wulf’s interpreting skill like a guy missed his nuts. He disliked giving so much power to someone the team had known for six months but saw no choice. “Whatever you have to say.” He tried to smile, but his lips were too dry to peel away from his teeth.
Undershirts always soaked through, the price of wearing more than forty pounds of protective gear, but now sweat chilled on his skin. The sun was a joke, making those weapons shiny enough to reflect glare, but not providing a bit of warmth.
The two men talked while he watched a fighter in a striped vest, the man whose hands were closest to his rifle. Target one if this went to hell. Shoot, roll left to cover Abdullah and count on the rest of the team to roar through the gate and clean the courtyard. One on twelve for ninety seconds, survivable only on paper.
He didn’t have to field test the plan. His terp pulled a save from the faded Tigers hat that never left his head.
“Relax, lover boy.” Abdullah flung an arm across his shoulders.
Cruz wasn’t sure whose pits gave off the worst funk; his, the man hugging him or the two Afghans bringing them tea, flatbread and lentil paste.
“Told Dostum you’re engaged to a nice girl back home—”
An Afghan with a miraculous mouth of teeth pounded Cruz on the back to dislodge the bread stuck in his windpipe choking him. “What?”
“And because American law doesn’t allow two wives, you regretfully cannot accept this honor, but you’ll bring gifts next week to show how much you appreciate his generosity.”
“Great. We’ll haul a pallet of rice, but don’t let him think he’s getting weapons.” Wily bastard might have set up the incident to bag more rocket-propelled grenade launchers.        “If proud papas start offering me wives but settle for swag, I know who to blame.”
Abdullah raised his hands, palms out as if to deny his responsibility, then laughed as he turned them into finger-pistols pointed right at Cruz. “By the way, he expects a photo. He wonders what kind of woman American soldiers marry.”
“No problem.” A fake fiancée. He’d almost rather risk the business end of an AK-47.

Erotic Romance Author Bronwyn makes us Green with envy!

I am so excited to welcome my friend and fellow Author, Bronwyn Green today! She brings with her some steamy news *fans myself* and an even steamier blurb! *dripping in sweat*

Talking to her from her home base of Michigan, Bronwyn had exciting news for me (that I had to share, of course). Plus, I had to have a little fun with my fellow Sugar Glider-loving Author. *whispers* She confessed she would kype one, right out of their cage, if she could.

S: Hi Bronwyn and welcome to The Decadent Divas Blog!
B: Thanks for having me Shelbie! *smiles*

S: So let's talk HEAT - would you say the level of steam coming off of your pages is Snorzeville, or YOWZA?
B: I think they're all hovering around the YOWZA range. The shifter menages and the Dark Destines Series is definitely in the YOWZA range. (Oh boy...)

S: What would you say the largest influence in your life, outside of writing?
B: That would have to be my mom. She's absolutely amazing. She's brilliant, funny, talented and has always believed in me (and all of my siblings) no matter what. (Awww. We love Moms!)

S: Do you write full-time?
B: It's about an 80/20 split between writing and freelance editing. (Here that everyone? She's does editing too!)

S: What are your (non-writing) related hobbies?
B: I have more hobbies than time! I love knitting, cross stitching, sewing, pottery, reading and gardening. (See, we are sisters by another mother!)

S: Can you give us a hint about your latest release, Elemental Enchantment?
B: I can do one better - here's a blurb! (Excitement makes Shelbie jump up & down)

Photographer, Meaghan Boulton thinks a steamy one-night stand with a member of the bridal party seems like a great idea. And it is…until the ghost of a missing child shows up in the wedding photos and her one-night stand turns out to be a cop who suspects her of being involved in the child’s abduction.

Eli Jones is having a rough week. The woman of his dreams—the woman he’s been infatuated with since high school—skips out of his hotel room after the hottest hook-up of his life. Worse, she’s got information on a kidnapping that she couldn’t possibly have—unless what she says is true and she’s a witch.

Despite the cloud of suspicion that hovers between them, they need to work together to find the missing child. When it’s over, will anything be left of their passion to salvage?

S: *snoops, taking a peek over her shoulder* And it looks as if you have more to share with the readers? *poke-poke* =)
B: Yes, I pulled an Excerpt I thought your readers might enjoy. ;) (Do tell! Do tell! Details!)

Elemental Enchantment
Excerpt

 “More,” she heard herself demand.

He sucked the distended nub between his lips, drawing on it while she arched her back, offering him more. Grabbing his head, she pulled him closer.

“Please tell me you’ve got condoms.”

He raised his head and met her gaze, his eyes dark with need. “What’s that saying? A Boy Scout is always prepared?”

She nodded, mesmerized by the rough timbre of his voice.

“So, yeah. I’ve got ‘em, but we’re nowhere near needing them. Not yet, anyway.” He thrust against her, grinding himself along her needy cunt. “Not even close.”

Meaghan’s breath caught in her throat and her eyes widened as his words sank in. She’d anticipated a quickie. Something fast and hard to get it out of their systems. Her stomach flipped in nervous anticipation when he lifted her away from the wall and began walking with her. She gripped his shoulders for balance when he stopped in front of the bed and dropped her, startling a squeal from her when she landed.

He stared at her, his eyes slowly devouring her where she lay. She could just imagine what she looked like—breasts bared, skirt around her waist and panties soaking wet. God, she wished he’d just fuck her already.

His words drifted back her. She pushed herself up on her elbows and frowned at him. “What do you mean, not even close?”

He lowered himself to the mattress, wedging himself between her thighs and hovering over her upper body, his hands on either side of her head. Bending, he caught one nipple between his teeth and flicked his tongue across it before releasing it. It took everything in her not to scream.

“What I meant was that if you want a quick fuck you picked the wrong guy.”

S: (Mouth hanging open) Ah *gulps* wow! ;)
B: (Laughs)

S: Okay, now that I've recovered...what do you say about having a little fun with a quick ask & answer session?
B: Sounds great!

S: Remember, only fast answers are allowed - no thinking.
B: Okay, okay. You said something about questions?

S: The last book you read?
B: Abigail Barnette's The Bride (super hot BDSM) *rubs chin* Ah-ha! I see...

S: Multi-layered cake or fruity-licious pie?
B: Honestly? Neither. But if you want to toss a bag of Salt & Vinegar chips my way, that would be great! (Sugar-fun killer!)

S: You're favorite place to visit on vacation (other than my Sugar Glider's cage)?
B: (Laughs) On the shores of Lake Superior in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. I go for two week every summer. *booking tickets* Exact date? lol

S: Niiiice. Okay, chest like Harry like the Henderson's or smooth as a baby's bum?
B: Hairy, but not so thick it looks like it needs to be vacuumed.

S: Real or pen name?
B: Pen...but, this fall I'll have a YA Novel come out under my own name. :D

S: Oooh, can't wait! Vanilla or any other flavor?
B: I'm really an "all the flavors" kinda girl.

S: Tattoo, piercing or born as?
B: Both! I have both and so dies the hubs. ;)

S: And lastly, I have to ask Once Upon a Time or THE END?
B: Once Upon a Time - my four most favorite words (other than "Here are your chips."

S: This woman and her chips...and Sugar Gliders. I'd be willing to be she would probably feed them Salt & Vinegar Chips too! LOL =)

A big thank you to Bronwyn Green for stopping by to share her love of Erotic Romance - and Salt & Vinegar Chips. I can't wait to check out her latest release (and hide away with it until I'm done)! =)

If you are interested in learning more about Bronwyn and her work, I have placed her social links below for your convenience. Remember, her website shows all of her work and the links to purchase each title!

Happy Reading!
