Wolf's Song by Taryn Kincaid

Check out this awesome new release by Taryn Kincaid. Its the next in the new multi-authored Black Hills Wolves series. I love it.--RR

WOLF’S SONG
A Black Hills Wolves story

                                                       By Taryn Kincaid

BLURB:
Ten years ago, visions of death and the babble of lupine voices in his head, drove lone wolf Brick Northridge to challenge his cruel and greedy pack alpha. Beaten by the alpha’s thugs and banished from the pack, Brick lives a life of seclusion in a mountain cabin in the Black Hills.
Born into a rival clan of feline shifters, skinwalker Summer McCoy, in her guise as a raven, watches Brick from afar, giving him back a reason to live through her sweet songs and special gifts.
But when her clan attempts to tear them apart and threatens the pack that banished Brick so many years before, will their love be strong enough to withstand the forces bent on their destruction?

EXCERPT 1 (G-rated):
Summer McCoy perched in the uppermost branches of her special Ponderosa pine, in raven guise, engaging in her favorite pastime, spying on the lone wolf chopping wood below. Two days’ worth of whiskers shadowed his rigid jaw. She loved when he forgot—or didn’t bother—to shave. Scruffy stubble suited him.

The sun beat down on the back of his bronzed neck and shone on his hair, the color of roasted coffee, a shade lighter than the dark shadow that charcoaled his face.

She fluffed her feathers in anticipation. Take your shirt off, Brick. She’d heard the giant werebear, Gee, call him that name a decade ago. He’d made some joke about a wall and the hardness of the male’s head. But Brick hadn’t laughed back then. Not ever.

He’d fascinated her from the moment he’d arrived in the glade, bruised and battered. Once she’d learned his name, she’d treasured it, taking pleasure from repeating it often. Secretly, of course. Unwrapping the syllable frequently to admire its radiance in the privacy of her tree house, the way a woman wearing pearls against her warm skin enhanced their luminosity and iridescence.

Now, as if he’d heard her silent urging, he complied with her plea, shrugging out of the plaid flannel and flinging it onto a tree stump. Her beak opened as she sucked in breath. Sweat glistened on his torso, glazing rippling pecs and abs, shoulders broad enough to span the Badlands. A huge, incredible specimen of masculinity. Thick biceps flexed as he wielded the ax. Her heart beat faster than a hummingbird’s wings. Heat licked her.

EXCERPT 2:
She did not move, except to lower her raised arm from its frozen position. “Why do you call me that…? Annabel Lee?”
“I don’t have another name.”
“Summer,” she said. “I’m Summer.”
Yeah. Def. When the berries plumped sweetest. “Suits you.” His raging arousal made the words hoarse and jagged. Too harsh for this gentle female. “Turn,” he murmured. “I want to see your face.” A low growl escaped him before he could bite it back. “Your breasts.”
She turned then, slowly through the water, rounding to face him.
He sucked in his breath, his heart slamming against his chest. She was stunning and glorious. The beads of water rolling down her golden body sparkled in the sun. She glistened. All natural. No makeup. No artifice. Everything a female should be. And more. Much more.
Another pheromone cloud engulfed him. Her eyes went large and rounded, as if she guessed she’d zapped him with her hormonal lures, but couldn’t help emitting her sex juice any more than he could. Her nose twitched and she sighed, as if enveloped in a vat of melted chocolate, or whatever the fuck his own mating scent smelled like. He could only hope he gave off an aroma as rich and delicious as she did.
He struggled to control the raw savagery of his attraction and had to tear his eyes from her face. But her breasts…God, her breasts. Full and high, the exact size to fill his large hands, rose tips jutting toward him. He remembered how she’d touched herself, how much he’d wanted to replace her hands with his. Hell. He wanted to bury his face between those breasts, lapping at her, licking and sucking, take each one into his mouth, between his lips, grazing the pointed nipples with his teeth until he tore moans of delight from her.
His throat closed, his tongue swelling, filling his suddenly dry mouth, cutting off his ability to utter either animal sounds or inane words. After a beat or two of silence, she glanced away.
“What do you think?” Not shy exactly. Expectant. An undercurrent of doubt laced her question, as if she could not bear to disappoint him, and did not know what to make of his continued speechlessness.
“Perfect.” He rubbed his eyes. “Ah, Christ. You’re perfect.”
“No, I’m not.”
“You are to me.”

A new life. A new future…Elite Metal.

Scorching romance from Anna Alexander and Jennifer Kacey, Heather Long, Sabrina York Rebecca Royce, Saranna DeWylde and Roxie Rivera

Sterling’s Seduction
By Sabrina York

When Sterling spots a reporter masquerading as a waitress in a dingy bar in Deep Ellum, he suspects she’s investigating the team. And that’s something he just cannot allow to happen. Too many lives are at stake. He will do everything in his power to learn the truth—even seduce her. And to stop her story from coming out? He might even tie her to the bed.

Nothing is off the table when it comes to keeping his brothers safe. Nothing. It’s a damn shame she’s everything he’s ever wanted. It’s a damn shame her touch warms his cold, dead heart.

READ AN EXCERPT

As she rounded the corner, her steps stalled.
Because there he was, leaning against his bike. Waiting for her.
Well, she hoped he was waiting for her. When he saw her, he unfolded his long legs and stood.
“Did you change your mind?” she asked, trying for a flippant tone.
His beautiful eyebrow arched. “About what?”
“Taking me home?” Might as well be brash.
He gestured to his bike. “My alternator is shot. I’m waiting for a ride.”
“Ah.” Why disappointment flooded her was a mystery. Or not.
“Was there…an offer on the table?” His voice was a low melody that danced on the skeins of air. It was annoying. And not.
“Hey. I’m not the one who walked away.” She tried not to let her petulance show.
He stepped closer and searched her face. She let him. Not hiding at all. Or not hiding everything. She let her interest show.
“Let’s get one thing straight, Pigtails—”
“Pigtails?”
“Yeah. Pigtails.” He flicked her hair, reminding her how she’d pulled it up. She’d been going for backwoods innocent, but it might have backfired on her. With a harsh movement, she yanked out the rubber bands and her hair fell around her face. His lashes flickered. Something that looked like hunger washed over his features.
“What do you want to get straight?”
His jaw clenched. “I don’t like questions. Pure and simple. Understood?”
The way he said the word, with a thread of dominance in his tone, sent a shiver through her. She lowered her eyes and nodded. “Understood. So…do you? Want to come home with me? No questions asked?”
“Maybe.” He checked his watch. “Looks like my ride isn’t going to show, anyway.”
Hardly the flood of interest she would have preferred. Irritation rippled. “Or I can give you a lift home.” And when his cheek bunched, “Or call you a cab.”
“I’d rather go home with you.” He stepped closer, too close, and pulled her against him. His fingers were harsh on her flesh, his insistence alluring. Yes, this was what she wanted. Something rough. Something ruthless. Something demanding.
Hunger rose in her, swamping her desire to finish this story and get back home. Hell, she could probe him with questions later. After. This need was far more pressing.
When he lowered his head, she caught a whiff of his aftershave and her knees locked. He was tall, muscled and rough around the edges. Just the kind of guy she’d always craved.
His lips touched hers and she nearly collapsed. It was a wild rush, a tumult of sensation. For a starved woman, as she was, it was irresistible. She couldn’t help but kiss him back, a manic frenzy. Her passion seemed to spur his on, and he wrapped himself around her, tipped his head and deepened the kiss. His hands roved over her back, her hips, her ass. Nothing tentative. Nothing tender.
When he lifted his head, she was a bowl of Jell-O. Ready and willing.
“So do you want to?” Her voice caught on the invitation.
“Yeah.” He yanked her tighter and his cock gouged into her belly, hard and needy. “Yeah. I want to. Just no more questions.”
No more questions.
Right.

2 Divas, 1 Interview about Bite Marks

Hello everyone! I had the wonderful chance to interview fellow Decadent Diva, Rebecca Royce, and chat about her latest release, Bite Marks—a story written for Fated Desires Publishing’s Paranormal by Mistake line. Let me tell you, it is a great story.

Lia: Hi Rebecca! It seems like the year has kicked off great for you. There are so many great stuff coming out. But let’s talk about your sexy geek accidently turned into a vampire. What was your inspiration behind Bite Marks?
Rebecca:
Well honestly it came out of the call for Paranormal by Mistake by Fated Desires Publishing. I started asking myself how that could happen. How could someone become accidently paranormal? And my muse just took off. A vampire.  It could happen. But how? The whole story just plunged from there.

Lia: What is so special about the story?
Rebecca:
Well I think that George in particular is not your common Alpha hero.  He has to get caught up in this life he knows nothing about

Lia: Tells us a little more about George.
Rebecca:  George is a mystery writer. He’s very successful and has friends but he’s a bit of a loner. He’d love out of his small Texas town but he’s been stuck executing a will for his late mother.  He’s fallen head over heels for Trudy, the local bartender.  She is not interested, at all, but he keeps asking. Finally, she says yes (after reading one of his books…). They have a date all set up but he goes to a bachelor party and there he gets more than he could imagine from a stripper…
He becomes a vampire. After that things are just insane.  Trudy is a werewolf hunter on the run and George is being harassed by a vampire council who is furious he was made without permission.
I have to say, I really loved writing this story.

Lia: I love a kick ass heroine. Trudy is just that. What do you love about her?
Rebecca:
She has been on her own and she has been surviving. In the worst situations. Trudy lands on her feet. I think that’s what I love about her.

Lia: Any sequel in the works? I’m intrigued by James and Kaden. No pressure. *wink*
Rebecca: For sure there is!! Its on the list for me to write this year. Very excited.

Lia: What are you working on now and what is your next release?
Rebecca:  I am writing a book for a vampire anthology. (Hmmm…who could be in that with me?) And my next release in January 30th, a Werewolf anthology that features my book Eternal (Dragon Wars #2) called Under A Wolf Moon.

Lia: Lots of great stories coming! I can’t wait to read them. Including that vampire anthology coming in October (we will blow vamp lovers away *wink*)

Here’s a little more about Bite Marks.

Bite Marks
by Rebecca Royce
Fated Desires Paranormal by Mistake line
Heat Level: 4 Flames

George is a mystery writer in a small town who wants nothing more than one date with the local bartender named Trudy. When he finally scores a date, he is ecstatic. But the night before he his bitten by a vampire–and accidently transformed into a member of the Undead. He assumes any chance he had with Trudy died the same night his need for food did.

But, Trudy is more than she seems. A werewolf hunter on the run she knows all about vampires and if she can keep them both alive for any length of time, she might be just what George needs to survive.

Can love survive an accidental bite?

Excerpt:

“How‟s the book coming?” She bit down on her lower lip, a hint of color staining her cheeks. Sure, the skull and wolf tattoos on her arms made her look tough, but the sweetness in her eyes killed the impression. Like him, she hid her true self from the rest of the world. He just knew it.

“Good.” He shrugged. “I never know exactly how the book will turn out until it‟s over.”

“Are you telling me you don‟t know who did it ahead of time?” She moved away from him, poured a beer for the guy three seats down, then returned. “How do you make your plots so complex if you don‟t plot?”

He sat back on his stool. Deliberately copying her turn of phrase, he answered. “Are you telling me you‟ve read my two books?”

She stumbled a step backwards. “Ah…I guess…caught.”

George took her hand in his. He refrained from squeezing it within his own. She could get away from him if she wanted to. “Tell me again why we can‟t have dinner?”

“George.” She smiled a small grin before she pulled her hand from his. “I‟m not dating material. Trust me. I have more shit happening than anyone should deal with, particularly someone as awesome as you.”

“One date. Then, if you don‟t have fun with me, you never have to go out with me again.”

Say yes. Say yes. She never had before, but maybe the ninth time would be the day he finally got the answer he wanted.

Crafty, Crafty, I'm Sooooo not crafty.....

So, I've heard many times that having a hobby or something crafty to do with your hands is a great stress reliever. Now, I'm the first to admit the concept sounds soooo fun! I mean who wouldn't want to be able to delve into a ball of yarn and come up with something a human could actually use.

If it helps de-stress me, I'm all in. Put me in, Coach. Let's go!

The problem?

I suck with anything crafty. If it's found in a Hobby Lobby, there's a high likelihood that a) I suck at doing it and b) humanity is better of if I don't even try.

But I'm still determined. There must be something out there even I, the everly constant incompetent one with all things craft could do.

So I figured maybe someone could recommend something. That said, there's something you should probably know about moi before offering a suggestion.

I was banned from sharp objects in college. Yeah. It was ugly. I was an overnight cashier at an HEB. One of our requirements was to take a box cutter, whack off the top of the box of plastic boxes, shove it under the register and repeat until the 2 or 3 cases of them were gone. Lather, rinse, repeat. Yeah. So not adept at the whacking thing. Apparently my brain sees something sharp and immediately thing go really, really wrong. Quick. It took one night. One night to get the grocery manager, assistant grocery manager and unit manager to all agree I had zero business with a box cutter. It was taken from me in a ceremony of shame and solemn disbelief filled with copious looks I read easily. I can't believe she's that incompetent with a box cutter.

So barring anything sharp like needles and those whos it whatsits used in knitting, anyone have any crafty ideas for me to explore? I'll try anything once or twice.

Have a marvelous day everyone. :) Under A Wolf Moon is now available for pre-order! AND...it's on sale for a limited time at $0.99!!!! Yay! I was thrilled to be a part of this wonderful paranormal wolf shifter anthology. My story in it, Hell's Playground, is the first in a new series titled The Rending.

Shifters, Spirits, and Shamans by Katlyn Conrad

What is the paranormal? Some metaphysical philosophers (yes, those exist), posit that when we see shadow people or white ladies or lake monsters, we’re actually glimpsing the true nature of reality, hidden beneath.

I like this idea, even though it sometimes weirds me out. But when I started thinking about what makes a shifter for my Shifters and Shamans series for Ellora’s Cave, I came up with a different concept. What if what made a shifter was the spirit inside? What if werewolves have wolf spirits inside, demons are simply another form of were with a demon spirit inside, and vampires are shifters with demonic, bat-like spirits inside?

And once I started thinking of animal spirits, my mind went to shamans. Shamans work heavily with animal spirits, often having totem animals. And when they journey to Lower World (not to be confused with Hell), they work with the animal spirits there to cure ailments and understand happenings in “our” world.

In Spirit on Fire, the first novella in the Shifters and Shamans series, an unwilling shaman, Samantha, is forced to work with the fire-demon were, Marek, against a mutual enemy. Hint: there are vampires! Along the way, she discovers the wild delights of being a shaman and finding passion with a man she loves.

Spirit on Fire

The fire demon Marek claims he’s been ordered to kill Samantha but he’s disobeying the command. He’s come to save her instead, so they can work together against his sadistic vampire master. Demons are notorious liars, so Samantha has her doubts but no choice. A common cause—survival—draws them together and cool suspicion turns to sexual heat.

A Romantica® paranormal erotic romance from Ellora’s Cave

Excerpt

The werewolf paid cash, sliding the change into the hip pocket of his jeans.

At the other end of the counter Samantha pretended to study the flyers on the cork bulletin board—a high school production of The Tempest, a ten percent discount on acupuncture, a tai chi class at the local Y. The scent of coffee and the whir of an espresso machine filled the air, suddenly stifling.

Samantha had time to grab coffee but not for a were encounter. And if she was late for work again tonight she’d lose this job, just like she had all the others.

Don’t see me. Don’t see what I am. I am normal. I am invisible. I am shielded by a protective light…

Too late. Her heart roller coastered downward. He was striding toward her.

She met his eyes, determined to show no fear. The werewolf almost looked human. His plain white tee stretched tight against washboard abs. There was a hint of a shadow about his chiseled jaw and in her mind’s eye she caught a flash of rumpled sheets and sex. Like a photographic overlay, the spirit of the wolf shifted inside and around him. It snarled at her and her spine stiffened, the skin on her arms tingling. There was no call for the were to be rude, she thought.

He stopped in front of her and leaned against the counter. His gaze took a leisurely stroll from her low-heeled boots to her mahogany hair and corkscrew curls. Petite and curvy, she was a twenty-something morsel in a lipstick-pink trench coat.

“What’s a girl like you doing in a place like this?” His voice was a husky growl.

“I think you’re supposed to say, ‘nice girl like you’.”

“No.” He grinned. “I meant what I said.”

Dammit. He did know what she was. And worse, she was responding. Her pulse rose, warmth flooding her cheeks.

She hated this because a part of her wanted to smile, to flirt. Sam was lonely and not proud of the fact. But once the were and his clan discovered she was broken things would go bad. Fast. The weres were all about survival of the fittest, and the broken were a danger to the pack. She’d be driven out at best and at worst… She pushed that memory aside, the beating from a pack of female weres who had left her for dead. The surgeries that had followed. The drugs. The confusion. She’d wanted to die then, had expected death.

God, how she wanted to be normal.

“Sam?” The barista slid a white paper cup across the counter.

Samantha snatched the coffee, heedless of the heat burning the ridge of the cup into her palm. She turned to leave.

The were moved to block her and pressed a broad hand to his chest. “Sam? That’s my favorite name. Now I know it’s love.”

She rolled her eyes and stepped around him.

He bent his head as she passed. “Don’t leave, wolf shaman.”

“Excuse me.” She wove through the coffee shop and he followed her into the drizzly San Francisco night.

“Have dinner with me.”

“No.”

He grinned. “Breakfast then.”

She shot him a black-layered look. “No.”

“Why not? I’m charming, good-natured and I don’t bite. Much.”

“I’m sure. But trust me, it will only end in tears.” Her own.

He stopped beneath a streetlamp, the cone of light illuminating swirling droplets of fog. It sparkled in his hair like shards of glass. “What’s life without a little risk? Take a chance.”

She shook her head and hurried down the slick street, the noise from the coffee shop fading behind her. He was wrong.
