Happy Solstice!

Today is the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year. It's also known as Yule and is one of the oldest winter celebrations in the world. To ancient people, the seasons and the weather played an important part of their lives. To drive away the dark, they would light bonfires to light the longest night of the year. The tradition of the Yule log is actually a pagan one. As is the cutting of mistletoe.

Many cultures would celebrate with food, drink, music, and stories. From here on, the days would get longer until the arrival of spring. Definitely something to celebrate.

Wishing all of you a Happy Solstice, Merry Yule, Happy Holidays, and a very Merry Christmas!

Burning Ash

Forgotten Brotherhood, Book 3

No one is more surprised than Asher, one of the oldest vampires on Earth, that he's attracted to vamp hunter Jo Radcliffe. She's smart, a talented slayer, and she's gorgeous. Something about her pulls at him, like no one ever has before. For a man, whose name strikes fear in everyone––this is something new and intriguing. And quite possibly deadly, if she discovers his secret.

Jo has two things in common with the handsome Asher––they are both slayers and someone is messing with them in a very-much-trying-to-kill-them way. She's not so happy about joining forces with a dude she doesn't know. But he's sexy as hell and really good at his job as one of the Forgotten Brotherhood, whose business it is to execute misbehaving paranormals.

She knows she's bait in a larger plot to harm Asher and the Brotherhood. And there is nothing he won't do, no line he won't cross, to keep her safe––which may be the weakness that destroys them both.

TEASER:

“Vampire,” the melodic voice carried easily through the building. The hood of a long leather duster was shoved back to reveal a tall stunning woman with a deadly crossbow held easily in her hands.

Asher’s heart skipped a beat. Blood pounded through his veins, hot and thick. Confident and deadly was always a huge turn-on. This woman was both those things and more.

Christmas Gifts for Those with a Sense of Humor

It's that time of year again--time for me to help you out with holiday shopping. Christmas time seems to bring out the absurd, but if you have to buy a gift for someone who is, well, equally absurd, then it's a win-win situation. Just make sure they have a sense of humor!

Behold my picks for the year:

Are you parents of a child in their 20s who still lives at home? Looking to give them a subtle nudge to leave the nest? Luggage makes the statement without having to spell it out.

How about a gift for your child's teacher? This gift will keep on giving for years to come and hopefully, make the "problem" students think twice.

Dads are so hard to buy for, aren't they? But something that all dads have in common is the ability to fart. A lot. And often. Dads also like to think they're the best at everything, so this T-shirt will make them feel like they're a winner.

This is the perfect gift for Mom. I'm a mom and I must say, "Seriously?" at least 50 times a day. So much so it'll probably be inscribed on my tombstone.

Every grandchild thinks they're the favorite. Make sure you constantly reinforce it with this ornament, and don't forget to encourage Grandma or Grandpa to hang it somewhere all year round as a gentle reminder.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Happy Easter!

I love this time of year. The promise of warm weather, the bright faces of the flowers poking their heads above ground after a long winter’s nap. When I was a child, it also signaled the end of the school year was getting close. Always an exciting time.

I remember those days fondly. There are pictures of my sister and I in our pretty dresses with bonnets on our heads and white gloves on our hands. We’re ready to head off to church. Like most holidays, things were simpler in those days. The Easter bunny generally left us one large hollow chocolate bunny and maybe another small egg. There were no hidden eggs for us to hunt, but I never felt any sense of lack.

Easter also meant a big family dinner that included grandparents, an aunt, and cousins. Those days are long gone, but the memories of those wonderful times remains. However you celebrate, if you celebrate at all, enjoy the day with your family and friends.

And if you’re looking for a book to read, you might want to check out the next book in my Tapestries series.

Embroidered Fantasies
Tapestries, Book 5

With her abusive ex-husband safely behind bars, Roxanne Sykes is trying to carve out a quiet life for herself. Just as she’s beginning to feel free to explore her new possibilities, word reaches her that her cruel ex has been released from prison. When he shows up at her door bent on destroying her, it’s only through the magic of a well-loved tapestry that Roxanne is whisked away to safety—and into the world of a warrior she’s known only from her fantasies.

Radnor Craddock has known only a life of violence and brutality at the hands of his older brothers. Now that they have fallen in battle, Radnor and his twin brother Sednar can finally put their house in order. Just as their efforts are bearing fruit, fate smiles upon them again by delivering a potential tapestry bride to their doorstep. Well aware of what they must do to win her hand and her heart, the brothers dedicate themselves to granting Roxanne every imaginable pleasure, driving her to sensual heights unlike any she has ever known.

With each new erotic encounter stirring a loving bond between the three, Roxanne is tempted to accept the promise of the tapestry and make a new life and new home with the brothers. But she has trusted before and been painfully wrong, and she’s frightened by the whisperings of the brothers’ violent past. Unsure of herself and threatened anew when her merciless ex finds his way to her once again, Roxanne must trust her heart as the brothers vow to protect her and destroy her ex—and to give her a life and love she had never dreamed possible…

  Holiday Spritz Cookies

our holiday spritz cookies

Recipe compliments of my mother. Requires cookie press.

3/4 cup regular sugar (some recipes call for “powdered”, but mom swears by regular!)
1 cup margarine, or butter, or shortening (mom uses shortening; I use butter. Both are delish.)
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt

1. Preheat oven to 350 F.
2. In a bowl, mix together margarine (or butter or shortening), sugar, vanilla, egg until fairly fluffy.
3. Stir in flour, salt, baking powder.
4. Optional: separate dough into bowls, add food dye of your choosing (see photo).
5. Fill cookie press; press dough onto ungreased cookie sheets.
6. Bake for 12 - 15 minutes.
7. Remove from sheet and cool on cookie rack.
8. Eat. All. The. Cookies!

  Holiday Caramels

Recipe compliments of my grandmother.

1 can Eagle Brand Sweetened Condensed Milk
2 cups white sugar
2 cups white Karo Syrup
1 stick of butter (1/4 lb.)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

1. Mix together the first three ingredients (milk, sugar, syrup) in a large bowl.
2. Melt the butter in a large heavy kettle, pour in the mixture and bring to a boil.
3. Stir continuously while mixture boils until it reaches the temperature of 245 degrees Fahrenheit on a candy thermometer (can take up to 25 minutes).*
4. Once the 245-degree temperature is reached, remove kettle from stove.
5. Stir in 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract, then pour mixture onto a large buttered cookie sheet or flat pan.
6. Cut into pieces, wrap with plastic wrap or your candy covering of choice (or eat All The Candy, LOL).

*Note: If mixture overcooks, candy gets too hard.

That's all for now, Dear Readers. Have a great January! I'll see you back here on January 30th with some book fun!

xo,
Celia

HAPPY THANKSGIVING DAY!

Tomorrow is the Thanksgiving Day holiday in the USA. I’m Canadian, so I celebrated back in October, but I’m still very thankful for all I have. I give thanks every single day for my amazing family, the fact I have a roof over my head, heat and lights, running water, and food in the cupboard. It’s so easy to take things like that for granted, but I never do. There are so many people living without these basic necessities.

Then there is my career...

I’m lucky enough to have been able to support myself with my writing for the past fourteen years. I’m hopeful I’ll be able to do so for many years to come. But no matter what happens in life, I’ve always had this time and this grand adventure. I’m grateful to all my readers, many of whom have been with me since the very beginning. They’ve followed my career and bought my books with their hard earned money. I’m always thankful for their support and the kind words that keep me going during the tough times.

I’m very grateful to have worked with many amazing editors over the years, all of whom have made me a better writer. Then there are my fellow authors who have given so generously of their time and friendship and support through all these years.

So enjoy your holiday with your family, eat some yummy food, and celebrate all that you have been given. And if you have a minute or two, you can check out my upcoming book due out on November 26th.

Drakon’s Tear
Blood of the Drakon, Book 6

Dying isn't an option. I've survived a kidnapping, and now I'm on the run from the Knights of the Dragon who want my gift. There's nothing a dragon loves more than treasure. I'm Abigail Owens, and I can sense gemstones. When I find myself drawn to a beautiful stone bracelet at a tiny shop in Moscow, I can't help but have it — even though I can sense it's power. But I didn't realize with this one decision I've just put myself in the middle of a war between the Knights and a Drakon.

I guess I'm just lucky like that.

The only person I trust even a little is Vasili Zima, which is weird since I’m not sure if he wants to kill me or protect me. I'm drawn to him in a way I hadn't thought possible, and he feels the same way, or he wouldn't be risking his life to help me. He's wanted by the bad guys just as much as I am, and staying with me, well, there's a hundred percent chance I'm about to get us both killed. But I will not be going down without a fight.

CELEBRATE ST. PATRICK'S DAY WITH FOOD

https://www.pinterest.com/pin/162340761537922735/

I'm not Irish, but I'll never give up a chance to celebrate a holiday. And what better way to celebrate a holiday than with food?!

Corned beef and cabbage is the classic dish for St. Patrick's Day, and I have a slow cooker recipe that's super easy. I'll admit corned beef used to scare the hell outta me. It was one of those meats my Nana used to make in a pressure cooker and it took hours. No way was I ever going to devote an entire day to cooking, much less use a pot that I always believed had the potential to explode in my face. (For the record, I know pressure cookers are amazing, but the amount of skill needed to use one is beyond my realm of comprehension.)

But crockpots I can do. Crockpots are mothers' little helpers. Crockpots are God's way of saying, I know you do all the cooking for the family, so here's a little something to make your life easier.

First rule if you do not own a crockpot: BUY A CROCKPOT!

Trust me on this. It will become your new best friend. You're welcome.

Rule #2: Go to the grocery store and buy:

2-3 lb. corned beef brisket WITH a spice packet included. This is important because an already-prepared spice packet makes your life easier and that's our goal here.

1 head of green cabbage

2 lbs. Red potatoes (or baby ones, but the key is using a waxy potato because they hold their shape better.)

1 package of baby carrots

1 onion

1 bottle of Guinness beer (Yes, beer, that's not a typo.)

Are you ready to cook this bad boy? Here we go:

Chop the onion, halve your potatoes, and throw those babies in the bottom of the crockpot.

Lay that gorgeous slab of beef on top.

Pour 3 cups of water and 1 cup of Guinness on top. (Drink the rest of the Guinness.)

Sprinkle that magical spice packet over everything.

Cook this monster for 4-6 hours on HIGH or 8-12 hours on LOW.

Go do whatever it is you need to do without having to worry about what the f*ck is for dinner that night.

Return when the cooking time is done. Don't fret that the previously gorgeous meat has turned a yucky shade of grey. It will be a lovely shade of pink inside.

Chop that head of cabbage up, throw it around the meat, and cook another 30-45 minutes until the cabbage is tender.

Ta da! DONE!

See how easy that was? But tell your family you slaved over a hot stove all day anyway, so they'll handle clean-up while you go take a luxurious bubble bath.

A few notes:

If you're an insomniac and prefer to do your slow cooking at night, then by all means do so. You can cook it on HIGH for 7-8 hours and then simply turn it to WARM in the am after tossing in the cabbage.

If you've banned all alcohol from ever entering the house, feel free to substitute either 4 cups of water, or 2 cups of water and 2 cups of low-sodium beef broth.

Fear not that the veggies will become mushy. The fact that they're on the bottom and left undisturbed should guarantee they'll hold their shape. If not, well, a little mush never hurt anyone.

ENJOY AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!

My Top Five Holiday Movies

I want to wish all of you a very Happy Holidays! I love this time of year—the baking, the presents, the music and fun. One of the things I do every Christmas season is watch the seasonal movies and shows. We all have our favorites, but these are 5 that I watch every year.

1. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. This is the movie that kicks off the holiday season for me. I still laugh, no matter how many times I’ve seen it.

2. Scrooge. I watch at last three versions every year. My favorite is the Albert Finney one from 1970. I also love the Muppet’s Christmas Carol and the Alastair Sim version from 1951. (I also try and fit Billy Murray’s Scrooged in there too.)

3. How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1966 animated version). I’ve been watching it my entire life and still love it.

4. A Charlie Brown Christmas. This 1965 animated story still makes me smile and brings me hope.

5. Arthur Christmas. This movie is only a few years old, but I love it because it counters the cynicism that has run rampant in a lot of newer holiday movies.

Here are five more, because five just isn’t enough: Frosty the Snowman, Little Woman, Love Actually, It’s a Wonderful Life, and The Man Who Invented Christmas (2017).

And if you’re looking for a new book, you might want to check out Endless Chase, the final book in the Dalakis Passion vampire series.

Since the night her parents were brutally murdered, Katya Markova has been driven by a dark quest for vengeance. When her search for the killers leads her to the heart of Transylvania and the ancestral home of the Dalakis, she hopes to finally take her revenge and put her horrific memories and the souls of her parents to rest. Then she meets the mesmerizing Chase Deveraux, and his intensely passionate touch threatens to weaken her resolve as she surrenders to his sensual promise.

With his life in disarray, Chase has retreated to the remote castle of the Dalakis clan to sort things out in isolation, but instead is inexplicably drawn to the mysterious Katya. Instantly spellbound by her tough warrior exterior and compelling beauty, Chase finds that Katya captivates him like no other woman has before—until he learns of her dark intent and is torn between his own needs and those of his family.

Because Katya is enmeshed in a world of lies and deceptions, and has brought that world to the Dalakis doorstep. As their unquenchable passion spirals to incredible sensual heights, Chase and Katya will be forced to make a choice, one that could destroy the Dalakis clan for all time or unite the desperate young lovers for eternity…

This is a revised edition of a previous published book.

Birthdays and Special things

My birthday is this month. I tend to stretch the celebration out over a few days or weeks. Makes it more fun. The older I get the more I tend to enjoy the simple things in life. So I thought I’d share a few of my favorite things.

1. Moleskine Journals. There are many different styles, but my favorites are the thin 2 in a pack that are about 5 by 8 inches. They lay flat when you write and fit easily into a purse. I never leave home without one.

2. Lindt Chocolate. I’m a dark chocolate girl. I love the 85% cacao.

3. Tea. I love tea. I use various kinds, but rarely use loose leaf. I tend to go for tea bags for convenience sake. I know purists will shake their heads at me.

4. Wine. I’ve recently discovered Moscato and it’s my new favorite thing.

5. Bread. I know a lot of folks stay away from bread these days, but I love bread of all kinds, but especially 12 grain or ancient grains bread.

So, I’ll be marking another year on the calendar and enjoying some of my favorite things. I’ll most likely even treat myself to a mini birthday cake or a cupcake to mark the occasion.

This time of year we all get a little busier. If you’re looking for a smoking hot seasonal novella, you might want to check out The Gift of Shayla. This is a m/m/f ménage a trois that will heat up those cold nights.

The Gift of Shayla

Adam Lancaster has been in love with Rob McKeith—and attracted to Rob's wife, Shayla—for years, but he fears their friendship would be over if they knew the truth. So he's thrilled when his secret fantasy becomes reality and the couple offers him a very special gift: a sensual Christmas Eve in their bedroom...

TEASER:

“Adam.” There was an edge to Rob’s voice now. Adam knew his friend too well to think he was going to drop whatever was on his mind.

“Where’s Shayla?” He desperately tried to divert the conversation. It was strange he hadn’t seen her. She must be out somewhere, but he couldn’t imagine where she’d be. Not at eight o’clock in the evening on Christmas Eve.

When Rob didn’t answer, Adam finally turned his face toward him. His friend’s expression was more serious than he’d ever seen it. Shit. He picked up his glass and gulped down the rest. A waste of good scotch, for sure, but he needed the hit. Not that one drink would have much effect on him, but it was better than nothing. He needed something to dull the coming pain.

“I’ve seen how you look at me,” Rob began.

Adam closed his eyes and swallowed hard. The liquor he’d just drunk burned in his gut. He could still salvage this. He had to. The alternative didn’t bear considering.

He opened his eyes and chuckled. “Of course I look at you. I see you all the time.” There, that sounded casual enough.

“I’ve also seen how you look at Shayla.”

Happy Holidays- It's Cocktail Time!

We are heading into the second weekend of December, which usually means more holiday parties. Are you throwing a soiree? Attending one? Being dragged by the ends of your scarf? No matter the occasion, we all know the most important part of the gathering is food and drink. And if you travel with me, it's definitely about the drink.

Not too confident behind the bar? Do you need a quick hostess gift? Combine the two with these easy cocktails.

If you follow me on anything social media, you know I love whiskey. My favorite go tos are a Whiskey Ginger (or Ginger Whiskey depending on how you feel), and Irish Coffee.

Whiskey Ginger is super easy. In a glass filled with ice, mix one part whiskey with two parts ginger ale. That's it. If you want it stronger, add more whiskey.

For Irish Coffee, select your favorite coffee cup. It can be a mug, glass specialty coffee cup, whatever you wish. Warm up the cup with hot water. Pour out the water then add a sugar cube, an ounce or two of whiskey ;) and hot coffee. Top with whipped cream. So yummy.

As much as I love whiskey, I have found a new love. Moscow Mules. I know. They've been around forever, but I rarely venture into vodka land. However, those copper cups are so hypnotizing, I had to give them a try. I know most people may think mules as a summertime beverage, but they are perfect for the holidays because the recipe is easy.

You don't need the fancy copper cups. But if you have them, use 'em! In a cup filled with ice, pour two ounces of vodka, one ounce of lime juice, and top with ginger beer. Yeah. That's it. And it's so refreshing!

And you can mix it up. Change out the vodka for whiskey- Irish Mule. Tequila- Mexican Mule. Dark rum- Dark and Stormy. Yeah. It's called an entirely different name and you only garnish with a lime wedge instead of added the lime juice. Why? I don't know. I only drink them.

Remember the hostess gift idea? Make a package with a set of coffee mugs, the ingredients for Irish Coffee, and the recipe printed out on a nice card. Do the same with those extra-shiny mule mugs. Two snaps and a twist, and your done!

I wrapped this Moscow Mule kit with Russian men. :)

Until next time, y'all. Cheers!

Autumn is gusting in

October is always a whirlwind of activity for me. We're mid-soccer season, I have three, THREE, conferences in the next few weeks, I'm finishing up my latest book, and it is the start of the holiday season.

I saw a meme recently that called this time of year Hallothanksmas. It's a sad but true statement of our time. The retail industry makes it almost impossible to enjoy the season before cramming the next retail opportunity in our faces.

But there is a lot to enjoy about this time of year, although I hate the thought of my beloved summer sun going away. My favorite shows are returning, apple cider is abundant that is perfect with a splash of whiskey and a cinnamon stick, and my family makes our annual pilgrimage to the pumpkin patch.

So whatever your Halloween or Samhain traditions are, I hope you have the time to revel in the experiences and make them memories that last beyond the price tag.

Happy Fall!
 Until next time!

Cheesecake Love

Happy 4th of July!

Fireworks, family, barbecues, car shows, and food. Lots of food. That's what I think of when I hear 4th of July. As you may have guessed, I'm the baker in the family. And one of my favorite desserts is cheesecake.

In Sweetest Kisses, Nic wins Adam's heart with an orgasm-inducing cheesecake. This is a recipe some friends and I came up with in culinary school. I will never forget the look on my chef-instructors face when he saw what we were doing. "Where did you come up with that?" he asked. "It's Girl Scout cookie season," I replied. D'uh.

Samoan Cheesecake

8oz chocolate wafer cookie crumbs
3oz melted butter
1 pound 2oz Chevre (mild goat's milk cheese) room temperature
6oz Marscapone cheese
6oz granulated sugar
1/3 cup heavy cream
5 eggs at room temperature
8oz granulated sugar
1/3 cup heavy cream
3oz coconut flake
Dash of lemon juice and vanilla
Melted chocolate.

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Prepare a 9inch cake round or springform pan by covering the outside with aluminium foil.

Melted butter. Combine butter with cookie crumbs and press into the bottom of the pan and partway up the sides.
In a bowl cream together the Chevre, marscapone, and the six ounces of sugar. I a separate bowl, combine eggs and cream. Slowly mix egg mixture with the cheeses until smooth. Lumps cause cracks, so no lumps.
Pour in to the cake pan. Place a pan in the center of a roasting pan, then place in the over. Pour warm water into the roasting pan. About one to two inches deep. You are creating a steam bath.

Bake for about 50 minutes. After baking, allow the cake to cool. Once cool and released from the pan, melt the remaining sugar in a pan with a smidgen of water. Just enough to get the sugar wet. Let the sugar cook uninterrupted until it turns a golden brown color. Add the cream and a squirt of lemon juice and a dash of vanilla. Careful, the mixture will bubble fiercely. Stir in the flaked coconut. Pour over cheesecake in a thin layer.

Finish by melting some chocolate and drizzle over the top. I know!! Can you imagine!

If you want to make this cake more summertime, change out the chocolate cookies for graham crackers, and pour your favorite fruit mixture over the top.

Have a safe and sane 4th, y'all!

Until next time!

Anna

All the Single Ladies, Put Your Hands Up!

To the single women on this Valentine's Day.

A toast to my single sisters who refuse to settle.
To the women who are willing to wait for the right one, and not right now.
To the women who refuse to dim their shine to make others feel better about themselves.
Who refuse to pretend to not have goals, ambitions, or desires.
Who walk this earth in all of their sexy, confident glory.

Keep your chin up and your stride strong.
You are worth only the best, and being single is not a sign of unworthiness.
The people in your life are there for a reason,
And if "the one" has not appeared, then they are not ready.
You need someone who will add value to your life, inspire the best in you, make magic.

While others are showing half-hearted
professions of love because they have to, enjoy this time when you are creating the best you.
Sparkle on, my friend. Sparkle on.

Happy Valentine's Day!
