To tat or not to tat – is that even a
question?
I’m excited to announce the release of my
first story with Ellora’s Cave—What Lies
Beneath. The story was written in response to a submission call for
tattoo-themed stories. Having worked for several years as a reporter and
freelance writer, I love being given an assignment and then coming up with a
unique hook. As I was pondering plot angles for a tattoo story, I knew I wanted
to do something different. I wanted my characters to break the stereotypical
images people have of tattoo artists and people who get tattoos.
Finding a story line that fit this
requirement was something of a challenge, but that’s what good writers do. They
find a way to make that really oddball twist work for the story. Jericho, my
hero, has a lot of traits that people associate with ink slingers—he rides a
Harley, wears a ponytail and exudes bad boy appeal. Who better to match him up
with than a highbrow university professor? Amanda’s hallmark in the story is a
strand of pearls she never takes off.
Jericho and Amanda seem an unlikely
pair…and on the surface they are. The theme of the story is that looking past a
person’s exterior will often reveal startling and fascinating truths about who
they really are, not who they look like
they are.
Have you ever been attracted to someone who
seemed all wrong for you, only to find out that person was your perfect mate?
How did it turn out?
If you’d like to see how things turn out
for Jericho and Amanda, What Lies Beneath is available Friday, April 10 at most
online retailers. I’d love to hear your thoughts on the story or read your
review on Amazon.
About the Book
As a professor of historic literature at a
prestigious San Francisco university, Amanda Fine has the perfect job in the
perfect city. The new guy and fellow academic at work should be the perfect man
for her. Except Amanda’s idea of the perfect man is Jericho, a Harley-riding,
leather-wearing, ponytailed, scruffy-bearded, make-your-panties-wet,
world-class bad boy. When Amanda struts into his tattoo shop ready for a
down-and-dirty seduction, Jericho can only assume the high-falutin’,
pearl-wearing beauty is slumming.
When their explosive chemistry starts
moving toward something deeper, preconceived notions and assumptions blind
Amanda and Jericho. But with love on the line, this not-so-traditional
literature professor and not-so-unconventional tattoo artist need to learn to
see what lies beneath.
