Do You Find Blue Collar Heroes Sexy?

Do you like your heroes to have rough hands and dirt under their fingernails? If so, you'd love Jackson.

Blurb:

Aimee Crest is the prissiest, most stuck-up Wolf Jackson Cooper has ever met. The woman has a temper that would send sailors running and enough emotional baggage to keep a shrink in business for a lifetime. A Wolf would do well to steer clear of her. And Jackson would be happy to do just that—if it weren’t for one little thing that makes her irresistible to him. She’s his mate.

It’s a fate Aimee didn’t ask for and one she’s not at all happy about. She doesn’t want a mate. More to the point, she refuses to accept one. Even if that mate happens to be tall, muscular, and damn good with his hands. He won’t be able to seduce his way into her heart. She won’t let him.

But in this battle of wills, there is no middle ground. Somebody is going to have to surrender.

Excerpt:

Soft voices coming from her house made his decision to intrude on her evening easier for him. If she had it in her to entertain guests at this hour, he didn’t feel bad about knocking on her door. When she didn’t answer, however, his earlier irritation grew.

She might be used to the finer things in life, but he was a damn good catch. Okay, so maybe he had grease under his nails and calluses on his hands. He was a hard worker who didn’t shirk his duties. And maybe his clothes came from department-store racks. They looked good on him. He took care of himself.

When he knocked the second time, the door vibrated with the force he used. If she didn’t want him, fine. So be it. But he deserved to hear her say the words. Her flat out ignoring him pissed him off.

When a few more minutes passed, he growled. Who the hell does she think she is, anyway? He didn’t give a shit what she’d sacrificed for the pack. She acted like a stuck-up bitch, and someone should call her on it.

He raised his fist for the third time, but the door swung open. There, on the other side of the threshold, stood his mate wrapped in nothing more than a delectable towel. Her mouth moved as if she were saying something, but he couldn’t get past how beautiful she looked. And smelled. Damn, he wanted to leap into her house and lick her.

“Well? I’m waiting?” She tapped her foot in clear irritation.

Oh, right. She’s been talking. “I’m sorry. I didn’t hear you.”

She rolled her eyes. “What gives you the right to hunt me down in the dead of
night?”

The voices he’d heard earlier reached him clearly, and he realized the sounds
came from a stereo somewhere in the house. She hadn’t been ignoring him. She’d been taking a bath. But that didn’t excuse her earlier behavior. “You’re my mate, and you lied to me. You told me you were married.”

“I showed you my wedding ring. I didn’t tell you a damn thing.”

He snorted at the distinction. “You meant for me to think you were married so I’d leave you alone. Why? Didn’t like the universe pairing you with a commoner?” There. He’d told her the truth.

“It wouldn’t have made any difference to me if you were a homeless bum or the prince of a European country. I just want to be left alone.”

Yeah. Like she would’ve turned her cute little nose up at a prince. He didn’t believe her for one second. But he couldn’t come right out and call her a liar. That would kill any shot they had of getting together. He’d waited his entire life to find her. As much as she irritated him, he still hoped they would find a way to make some sort of relationship work. “Fine. But if you wanted me to leave you alone, you should’ve had the decency to tell me to my face. If your ring meant half as much as it should, you wouldn’t be hiding behind it. And you most certainly shouldn’t use the memory of your dead husband to lie to people.”

She glared at him, and her body trembled. “You have no idea what you’re talking about.”

“Yeah. That’s what happens when you go around lying to people.”

I've Got a Cover!!

There are few things in publishing that are quite as exciting for me as getting a new cover. It makes the book feel real. It's going to be published and the cover is kind of like the proof. I know it's silly. I've signed a contract and usually done edits by the time I get a cover. All those things should make the book feel real. Only, they don't. I need the cover.

For the past couple of months I've been talking about the Black Hills Wolves book I'm working on. This week, I got the final cover in my email. It was a joyous day. And, with much fanfare and confetti, I share that day with you all. Here is my cover! The amazing Fiona Jayde created the cover and she did a fantastic job.

What is the story about? Here's a quick synopsis:

Thom is suspicious, flirty, and—worst of all—human. He believes the whole town of Los Lobos is one large cult. And if that weren’t bad enough, somebody seems determined to kill him. The man might as well have a huge, Do Not Touch, sign painted on his back.

None of that stops Hank from wanting the farmer the moment they meet. Just because he wants something, however, doesn’t mean he’s going to get it. He’d learned that lesson early on in life. Thanks to his sexual orientation, he’d never find the one thing every Wolf craves: a pack. Best for him to do his job and get back on the road.

But time spent with a human can do funny things to a Wolf. Especially one as addictive as Thom.

New Romance

Last week I started writing a new story in a new world with all new characters. This hasn't happened for me in awhile. Actually, my writing had slowed to a crawl after the three releases I'd had in the spring, so when I started a new story, I was instantly in love.

Starting a new story, for me, is a lot like starting a new romance. Or, at least, what I remember about starting a new romance. There are the flutters of excitement, the compulsion to spend all my available time obsessing about it, and I constantly wonder if the story is actually going somewhere.

This particular story is a horror romance, which adds a whole new level of anticipation to the process. Who is going to live and who isn't? Plus, I get to throw myself into a diabolically evil manifestation and figure out what its motivation is.

Over the next couple of weeks, I anticipate the story growing and my understanding of it becoming second nature. That's actually my favorite part of writing a story. I like the anticipation and excitement of starting something new, but I love when the story finally clicks into place. And then I will have to end it. Just like a relationship, I hate that part. It sucks to get to know somebody so well and be in their lives so deeply only to say goodbye and set them free. I always drag my feet on that part.

Do you experience anything similar when you read a new romance? Do you have stages you go through when you find a new author or series to love?

If you want to follow the progress of my newest story and all the other stories I'm writing (I also just finished writing a new Black Hills Wolves story and am polishing it up and getting it ready to submit) feel free to friend me on Facebook or follow me on Twitter

Just Five More Days...

Until Romancing Austin releases and I'm super excited!

My story, Do Over, is my first ever contemporary romance. I've written several sci-fi romance and a couple fantasy romance, and even a handful of paranormal romance but when my friends asked me about writing a novella for this anthology, I just knew I had to write a contemporary. Austin is so magical and fun. It really is an amazing city. I wanted to capture the real feel of it.

Do Over:

Bad things happen—even to good girls.

Juliana was angry and heartsick when her fiancé left her at the altar. But she wasn’t going to let that stop her from going on her honeymoon to Austin, Tx. She needed a vacation—an adventure to shake things up. And the tattooed man she meets at a bar would make an excellent holiday fling. But Luke knows a good thing when he sees it. His job it to discover extraordinary people. He’s not going to let Juliana slip through his fingers.
***

But this anthology really has something for everybody. There are two paranormal romance, five contemporary romances, one rockstar romance, one executive, a club owner, an assistant who just wants to quit her job, and a male/male foodie romance.

Romancing Austin is out May 5th but you can pre-order it for $.99 today!

Spring Is In The Air....Finally

I don't know about where you are, but it has been a long, cold winter here. Okay, so not as cold as it was in the Northeast, but still cold for Texas. Now that the days are getting longer, sunnier, and warmer, I am overjoyed.

Fall is my favorite season but spring is my second favorite. I hate winter. I'm just not a cold person. So here's my top five reasons I love spring!

5. Flowers are in bloom!
I miss the bright pops of color during the winter. Christmas lights are pretty when they sparkle in the window, but they don't match the beauty of flowers.

4. Grill is on.
My husband is a grill master. Everything he puts on our Weber comes out amazing. Portabella  mushrooms, steaks basted in garlic butter, hamburgers, and even zucchini I love it all.

3. The sun.
What is that big ball of fire in the sky? Oh, yeah, it's the sun! God how I miss that celestial body during the winter. I mean, it's up there. It never goes away. I know that. But it's just not as warm or welcoming during the winter months.

2. Sun dresses.
With the warmer weather comes the fun, flirty clothes. Strappy dresses and shorts replace sweaters and bulky coats. Sandals take the place of boots. And, though I do love a sexy pair of boots, my feet sigh with relief in a pair of goddess sandals. And, of course, legs come out to play as shorts and skirts replace the heavy pants of the colder months.

1. The world reawakens.
This is may favorite part of spring! The whole world seems to recharge and reawaken. It helps to motivate me and get me back on task. I sometimes lose steam over the bleak harsh months of cold. Rushing here or there so I don't spend a second longer out in the elements than I have to is replaced by long, leisurely walks in the sun.

I know a lot of people love winter. I do understand, intellectually, the appeal of the season. But I'm always relieved when it passes. So tell me, what is your favorite part of spring?

Like Your Fantasies Dark and Hot?

Then I've got a story for you! Assassin Queen is out.

Blurb:

At sixteen Lilavati was banished from her mother’s kingdom by her stepfather. She was the rightful heir, but with the queen carrying a new child she had to choose between exile or death. Instead of facing the executioner, she fled in the middle of the night like a common thief—leaving behind everyone and everything she ever loved, including the dashing knight who’d stolen her young heart, Naresh.

Now, ten years later, Lilavati isn’t the naive, helpless princess she’d once been. Life on the run has hardened her. It’s also given her time to formulate a plan to take back the kingdom that should be hers and access to criminals, assassins, and a ruthless spell-caster named Kirin who can make that plan a reality. If she can keep the sorcerer focused on the goal and not the ill-advised attraction between them, that is. When she hears of her mother’s death, she knows it’s time to act. She will have everything that is rightfully hers. But she’s not the only one that’s changed since her departure. Her once strong kingdom is dying. It needs a savor not a conqueror.

Kirin agreed to work with Lilavati because he enjoys being near the aloof princess. He’s drawn to her confidence and determination. But when she starts using that determination to keep him at a distance, he’s not nearly so fond of the attribute. A promise she made to another ten years ago is keeping her out of his bed. When he discovers her knight in shining armor is married and has kids, though, all bets are off. But no matter how many times he shares her bed, it’s not enough. He’ll have to figure out a way to make the princess surrender her heart. It’s not going to be easy with his reputation. But if he can save her kingdom, he might have a shot.

Excerpt:

She meant to make her way into the night. She needed space. So much had happened in such a short time. She needed some time on her own. But Kirin seemed unaware of her need as he followed her.

“If you’re going to continue arguing with me, you can save your time and breath. My decision is final.”

“You will go back to your kingdom despite certain death?”

“Nothing in this world is certain. But, if you fear your own mortality, you are free to part company with me. There will be no hard feelings.”

“I guess I’m easy to leave behind when a crown is dangled in front of your eyes.”
She turned around and was glad to find they were out of earshot of the rest of the camp.
“Is that what this is about? You think I’ve chosen a trinket over you? Over all of my men?” “Of course. We’ve fought beside you for years. Put our trust and lives in your hands. We’ve

been your family when your family wouldn’t have you. But now we aren’t good enough? You’d choose a kingdom of ungrateful peasants over us?”

“If I do not go back and set things right, I will be a target for the rest of my life.”

“You always have been and always will be a target. Greatness paints a bull’s-eye on your back. It may not be fair, but that’s the way it goes.”

“I want....” She shook her head. “I need to set things right. I need to protect my people. My stepfather does not have their best interests at heart. He never has. And with my mother gone....” She paused as the words made her eyes burn again. “With my mother gone, they have no one.”

He spit on the sand near her feet. “Already you’ve changed.”

“I will not tolerate this abuse.” She pointed a dagger at his heart to emphasize her words. “And I haven’t changed.”

“You want to go home for vengeance. You want the walls to run with his blood and your people to finally have to admit they chose the wrong side.”

Her blood heated with pleasure at the picture his image painted.

“You are an assassin at heart. You live for the thrill of dispensing justice with your own hands and following your own moral code. Yet five minutes after you’ve made your decision, you’re already speaking the language of diplomacy and sugarcoating your desires.”

Her heart stopped as he leaned forward. He was going to kiss her. She could feel it in her soul. But that wasn’t the scary part. What terrified her was how badly she longed for it to happen. When he stopped a mere breath away from her, she actually whimpered with desire.

“I would follow you through the gates of hell without a backward glance.”

His warm breath fluttered across her skin and made her shiver.

“But only the true you. The assassin. And there are a million and one deaths I am prepared to watch you die. It is the nature of who we are. But I refuse to watch your spirit be cannibalized until you are nothing but a pale shadow of the woman who once held my allegiance.”

“I have been the Assassin Princess for ten years now.” She ran her fingertips over the stubble on his chin and gasped at the raw hunger that emanated from him. “But she is no more.”

“Lilly—”

“Now I am the Assassin Queen. Help me take my kingdom back. Help me find justice for the ten years I was sentenced to exile for the crime of being another man’s child.”

His teeth reflected a glint of moonlight as he smiled. “Aye. That I will do. I serve at the pleasure of the Assassin Queen.”

He ran the pad of his thumb over her cheek and then stepped back. “But if I see you’re fading into a life of politics, I will kill you myself.”

She laughed. “If you can take me in a fair battle, I deserve to die.”

“In all the years we’ve fought side by side, have you ever seen me fight fair?” He turned and walked into the night before she had a chance to answer.
