A Look Back

There are few moments in my writing career that are as victorious for me than the publication of Ravenborne. It was my first novel. It was actually the first story I completed. I took some time off after it was done, put it aside, and wrote Ink in the Blood and Dragonborne before I revisited, rewrote, and submitted it. No matter how many books I write, and how many books I have published, Ravenborne will always hold a soft spot in my heart.

Blurb:

A dragon’s fate will seal their love…or destroy their future.

When Kavin Hunter appears on her doorstep to recruit her into the king’s guard, Saraphina Raven knows her secret—an unwanted telepathic ability—has caught the attention of the king. If she refuses to use her gift to discover who’s plotting against the throne, her last link to her royal heritage will be forcibly stripped away. It's a threat that's guaranteed to work. She'd do anything, even help the king that deserted her family, to preserve the only connection to her past.
It’s a past Kavin is all too familiar with. Once upon a time, his brother was betrothed to Saraphina, until the raid that destroyed her family. Now Kavin struggles with his own part in the mess her life has become. And a growing connection made stronger by the power of his healing touch. Though his loyalty lies with the king, Saraphina is becoming the woman of his heart. And nothing, not even a dragon in disguise, will stand in the way of their love.

Warning: Contains a former princess who gets cringe-worthy glimpses into others’ thoughts, a knight in slightly tarnished armor with talented…hands. And a dragon betrayed.

Truths and Consequences

“I can’t make you do anything.  Nobody can.  There are always consequences, but if you’re willing to face them you can do whatever you like.”

I’ll never forget where we were when my mom said those words to me.  We were on the gravel road that led to our home.  I can still smell the chalky thickness of the dust that was blowing up around the car.  What I don’t remember was what’d started the conversation.  I’m guessing my mom wanted me to do something I wasn’t too keen on.  Probably homework or some chore.  But that statement stuck.  I didn’t have to do anything.  Nobody was forcing me to live my life a certain way.  I made the decisions and then I faced the consequences.  It was a powerful realization for a young girl.  And it was a realization that found its way into one of my first books, Dragonborne (released by Samhain on April 27, 2010).

Sophie had grown up in the church.  She’d lived her life to the letter of her church’s law, despite her own personal beliefs.  But when the children in her village start dying, she can’t accept it’s the will of their deity.   And when a dragon helps her discover the true cause of the plague, she has to decide if she’s going to continue living a life ruled by expectations or start following her own convictions regardless of consequence.

It was a powerful story for me to write because it reflected back to the time in my life where I started making conscious decisions.  To the time when I started taking control of my life instead of letting the winds of fate and the expectations of others drive it.   And it’s a story I’m very proud of.

Blurb:

For her people, she’d sacrifice anything. For her, he’ll sacrifice everything.

When the children of her village start dying of a mysterious plague, Sophie refuses to believe it’s the will of their deity. As the town cleric, she’s always followed the church’s strict rules, but enough is enough. She vows to do anything to find a cure—even if it means defying the church.

The giant black dragon she finds injured and poisoned near the abbey seems beyond her ability to heal. Until he suddenly shifts into a dangerously handsome man who, even in his weakened state, is a temptation beyond her ability to resist.

Reuel has never trusted humans, but this delicate young woman entrances him with more than her beauty. Her bravery, devotion and passion call to his wounded heart, and he’s moved to lend his magic to her cause. Magic that is not only powerful, it’s all too tempting to abuse—something his family has never let him forget.

Sophie is hopeful when Reuel solves the secret of the plague, until one healing uncovers a sickness that runs far deeper than the children’s vulnerable bodies. Now she is being persecuted, and to save her, Reuel may have to become the monster his family believes him to be…

Product Warnings

Contains a stubbornly sexy cleric who’d rather have her hands tied to a headboard than exhibit any self-control, a shape-shifting dragon who’s too busy running from himself to see where he’s going, an epic dragon battle, and sex in the great outdoors.

Guest Diva, Louisa Bacio, Heats Things Up!

Are you looking for something to warm up a cold winter's night? Well then, I've got the book for you!

Louisa Bacio has a brand new book, Twin Cities, releasing on Feb. 25 from Ellora’s Cave and it looks like a hot one.

Blurb

Sure, Nate fantasized about a ménage á trois with two hot sorority sisters, but he never expected it to come true. On a business trip to Kansas City, reality becomes even better than fantasy when Desiree and Sherrie, a buxom blonde duo, get down and dirty. When the threesome get into bed, Nate discovers the ladies share a mutual lust, and not just for him—and two is not too much to handle.

Excerpt

Desiree bounced in first, throwing her tits against him. Umm, her arms around him. “Oh my God! What are the odds we’d all be here at the same time?”

Each jump resulted in playful corresponding movements. Her low-cut shirt didn’t hide an inch of cleavage.

“Just crazy,” he said. Her hair smelled like flowers, not overwhelming but noticeable.
Over her shoulder, he grinned at Sherrie and raised his eyebrows as if to ask, “Is she always this crazy?”

She returned his smile. “Good to see you, Nate.”

Desiree released her hold on him. “Oh, so sorry. I was so excited. You remember Sherrie, right?”

How could he forget? She might have been the quieter of the two, but she was an equal stunner. While Desiree didn’t hesitate to partake in bathroom blowjobs, Sherrie had hung with the sorority sisters more, and then got a long-time boyfriend. Some blowhard he didn’t remember the name of. Didn’t matter. He checked her ring finger, and it was clear. So she wasn’t married, or wasn’t wearing.

“Oh course I do.”

He hugged her for good measure, and her breasts pressed pleasurably against his chest. He told his little head to stay chill and not get all happy quite yet. Chicks may not appreciate that type of attention as soon as they walked into a guy’s hotel room.

“Come on in,” he said, ushering them inside. He’d forgotten how much they looked alike, as if it was more a figment of his imagination—true sorority sisters. Both were blondes, but while Desiree’s hair was platinum and flashy, Sherrie’s was more honey-toned.

“Look at this place!” Des said. She placed her purse on the couch and did a spin. “It’s huge. You must be doing quite well for yourself, Nate.”

“I can’t complain. It’s not bad to travel when you get to put it on your expense account.” He moved toward the bar. “Can I offer you two a drink?”

They exchanged a look and Sherrie nodded yes. “We’d love one. From this spread of goodies, I’d think you were trying to keep us in tonight…”

Her words trailed off, leaving the meaning open. She rubbed his shoulder, a sense of familiarity between them.

“Who, me?” he said. “Well, with you two beautiful ladies, would you blame a guy for trying?”
