Get Your Football Fix- Blitzing Emily by Julie Brannagh

Football season is over, and for us Seattle fans it was a bittersweet ending. So what are you going to do to pass the time until pre-season begins? Read a book, of course!

Sports romances are an up and coming genre, and one of the first authors to tackle these stories of super athletes finding their happily ever afters is newly crowned USA Today best selling author of the Love and Football series, Julie Brannagh.

Today she's sharing a snippet of her best seller, Blitzing Emily. But first, I had to ask her, what was going through her mind when Russell Wilson dropped back for "the pass?"

Julie- "Let's just say my mouth was hanging open when Wilson's pass was picked off in the last play. I couldn't believe they didn't run the ball..."

You and me both, sister. You and me both.

Blurb

All's fair in Love and Football . . .
Emily Hamilton doesn't trust men. She's much more comfortable playing the romantic lead in front of a packed house onstage than in her own life. So when NFL star and alluring ladies' man Brandon McKenna acts as her personal white knight, she has no illusions that he'll stick around. However, a misunderstanding with the press throws them together in a fake engagement that yields unexpected (and breathtaking) benefits.
Every time Brandon calls her "Sugar," Emily almost believes he's playing for keeps—not just to score. Can she let down her defenses and get her own happily ever after?

Excerpt
EMILY HAMILTON PLANNED to kill her sister. She just had to figure out where to hide the body. After that, she’d have to explain to Mom and Dad why Amy didn’t attend Sunday dinners anymore. Right now, though, that was all secondary.
Emily parked in front of the Seattle Sharks’ headquarters on a cold, windy Valentine’s Day afternoon, wrestling the biggest balloon bouquet known to mankind from the back of her Ford Escape.
Couldn’t this guy’s girlfriend choose a better method of saying “I wuv you” than seventy-five personalized Mylar balloons, five pounds of Fran’s Chocolates, and a teddy bear the size of Sharks Stadium? A greeting card would work. They’re portable. They’re tasteful. Well, most of them are. The mailman would even pay a visit to one’s very own mailbox to ensure that the Valentine in question found its way into the paw of some neckless, muscle-bound football player in plenty of time for the big day. Then again, Emily didn’t actually know any football players, and maybe she was being a little harsh.
She gazed at the profusion of balloons reading “I love you, Brandon.” Brandon would also be the only man in America who might find such an over-the-top display compelling.
Emily carefully tugged, rearranged, coaxed, and swore under her breath for what felt like a half-hour, and the balloons wrapped themselves around the bear. The bear wedged under the huge box of chocolates. She’d opened all four car doors in an attempt to push or pull the whole thing out. Moving the box was frightening. Even better, it had been an unseasonably cold February in Seattle. The parking lot resembled an ice skating rink courtesy of the last (surprisingly deep) snowfall. Replacing a five-pound box of expensive Fran’s Chocolates meant one less pair of Jimmy Choos in her closet, which was always unacceptable.
Emily pulled on the balloons again as she slid around on pavement that felt like it was greased. She wasn’t exactly dressed for balloon wrangling. The stiletto-heeled boots she’d bought during her last trip to Rome and couldn’t wait to wear looked great at rehearsal. But they didn’t work well in an icy parking lot by any stretch of the imagination. The dress trousers and lacy silk cardigan she had on today weren’t made for flexibility, either.
Emily wasn’t a floral delivery driver by profession. She typically spent her days, and several evenings a week, being rescued from evil spirits, pursued by noblemen, or falling in love with entirely inappropriate scoundrels as an opera singer. Rehearsal was done for the day, however, and she was helping her sister out. Amy’s floral shop had opened less than six months ago, and Valentine’s Day was the biggest delivery day so far. Amy needed the money. After all, her business loan balance was the financial equivalent of Shock and Awe.
Emily needed a stiff drink and an evening with George Clooney, but she didn’t see either materializing anytime soon.
She could free the bear, but that would send the candy box flying. She couldn’t get through the mass of balloons to push the candy box aside. The bear watched her through beady and unmoving eyes as she stopped swearing and started praying. She wasn’t Catholic, but reciting a couple of Hail Mary’s wouldn’t hurt.
Maybe she imagined devil horns sprouting through the bear’s thick plush.

Blurb:
Senator Beau Beckett refuses to lay low because of a few death threats on postcards. His new bodyguard isn’t going to convince him otherwise. At least not until the threat becomes real and his four year old daughter’s safety is jeopardized. He has no choice but to work with his cocky and sexy Agent Wolfe to stay alive.

Federal Security Protection agent, Judd Wolfe doesn’t play by the rules. His out-of-the-box way of getting things done lands him a babysitting job. But being Senator Beckett’s bodyguard while staying out of his bed becomes his biggest challenge as passion ignites between the men.

Excerpt:
“I don’t need a bodyguard.” Beau fisted his hands atop his desk.
“It’s not your choice. The orders came from—”
Beau slammed a palm against the wood, silencing his chief of staff, then took some deep, slow breaths. Notes on postcards weren’t reason enough to call in a Federal Protective Service agent to cover his personal security. “I know where the orders came from.”
FPS didn’t usually play babysitter unless the orders came from the President, which told Beau they had made a threat assessment and the results must be grave. Yet, no one would explain to him how serious. With a sigh, he sat back in his chair and tapped his fingers against the desktop. “It was two separate incidents, both of them accidents.”
Jaw tightening, Greta folded her arms and stared at him. No doubt his chief of staff wanted to choose her words carefully. If she’d known about the notes, she wouldn’t have waited this long to escalate the security issue. “I have to disagree, sir. Those so-called accidents were avoidable, and happened in public places.”
She pointed to the file she placed on his desk upon entering his office. “The file has everything you need to know about your new security detail.”
Exhaling a heavy, growl-like breath, Beau opened the file and scanned over the details.
Judd Wolfe
Intelligence Security Lead
Federal Protective Services, Homeland Security
“Would you like me to cancel your dinner reservations?”
Beau raised a brow and returned his attention to Greta. “No. I’ll just take my babysitter with me.”
She pursed her lips. “Judd Wolfe is not a babysitter. He’s a highly trained operative.”
“I can read. Thank you, Greta. That is all.”
When she didn’t move, he raised his gaze to meet hers and lifted a brow. With a huff, she pivoted on her heels and left. Beau returned his attention to the file. Wolfe had served in the Air Force from the time he turned eighteen until three years ago. The records in front of Beau said it was an honorable discharge due to an injury in the field, but gave no details. Figures. Military documents listed only the most basic information.
Nothing else.
A heavy knock on the door drew his attention. It swung inward, revealing a tall man with lean muscles that filled out his white button down and black slacks well. Even the briefcase in his hand didn’t take away from his attractiveness. Beau studied him from his shaved head to the strong, clean-shaven, yet familiar face before he locked onto the agent’s stern stare. The dark brown depths told him nothing of the man’s emotions. Cold and uninviting. The memory of a younger version of the man before him flashed across Beau’s mind. Then it dawned on him. Beau had represented Judd Wolfe a couple of times during his time as a JAG.
“I see the Air Force didn’t make you less of an ass.” Beau watched one dark brow rise.
“No. I’d say the same about you.”
Beau stifled his amusement behind a slight rise of his mouth. As his lawyer, Beau had found it entertaining to get under Wolfe’s skin. “Who did you piss off to get babysitting detail?”
Judd lifted one shoulder as he moved to the windows along the wall behind Beau, scanning the grounds outside. “The list is too long.”
“So tell me, why has Homeland Security put a bodyguard on me?”
Meeting his stare, Wolfe narrowed his eyes. “You’ve been targeted for assassination.”

Happy reading!

Eilte Metal- Adamantium's Roar by Anna Alexander

No, this is not a repeat post. Yes, Elite Metal is on the cusp of taking over the world! Not really, but it would be nice. :)

When I was approached to be a part of this amazing box set, the only thing I was told was the hero had to have a code name that was the same as a metal. I said, "If I can name him Adamantium, I'm in." The response was a resounding, "YES!"

Some of my inspiration
Sure, adamantium isn't a "real" metal, but I wasn't going to give up the opportunity to drop a huge comic book Easter egg. And that's not the only egg. Just to name a few, there is a little homage to Wolverine right on the first page, and Ant rides a Harley Davidson Duo Glide. The same bike ridden by Hugh Jackman in Wolverine: Origins. Another yes!

In Elite Metal, Adamantium is the techno-nerd of the group. A hot, sexy, techno-nerd who is an artist and designed video games during his forced hiatus from the Marines. I loved writing his story, and I hope you all fall in love with him too. Here's a little taste of Adamantium's Roar.

Blurb-

Adamantium feels right at home being back to what he does best with his Elite Metal buddies, especially if it keeps his mind off her.  Beth Bradshaw. His best friend’s girl. But when their paths cross again, he discovers Beth is in the hands of a dangerous man. Vow or no vow to his Elite Metal family, Ant will do anything to claim the woman he loves.

Excerpt-

Was he flirting with her? Her husband’s best friend? The quiet guy who had always seemed to be more interested in video games and computers than women? Oh, he had had the occasional girlfriend, but never a relationship one would call serious, at least that she had seen. And he had never given any indication that he thought of her as a woman. As in a real woman. As in a potential mate and bed partner.

But there was certainly a vibe coming from him now. A subtle flex of muscles and a narrowing of his gaze that suggested he was interested in far more than merely reminiscing about the past.

“Here we go,” he said as he steered the car off the freeway. Two blocks further down the road, he turned into a driveway of a motel. “We’re already checked in and the parking lot is in the back, so we won’t be seen from the streets. When we get settled why don’t you take a bath, relax, and I’ll get us some dinner and some shoes for you.”

At the word “bath” she imagined being soaking wet and naked while Adamantium stood on the other side of the bathroom door in all of his manliness as he prepared to turn in for the night. Somehow she didn’t think he wore pajamas to bed.

“Oh,” she said and tried to control her racing heartbeat. “Um, sure.”

Holy cow. Was she seriously getting turned on by her oldest friend?

“Sit tight here while I do a quick check around,” he said as he parked the car. Once he climbed out, he stood by the side of the Charger. His tight backside was perfectly framed by the driver’s side window.

She closed her eyes on a groan. Dear lord, she was.

And what is a mega release without a contest? Enter below. Enter! Enter! Enter! And preorder Elite Metal now for 99 cents! I want to add more exclamation points, but you get the idea.

Rebel. Nomad. Troublemaker.

After surviving the double-cross during Operation Phoenix, Former Elite Recon Marine Silver embraces the underworld and builds a new life as one of the world's most renowned thieves. Jewels, paintings,

corporate espionage--there's no job he won't take for the right price.

Forged in Silver EXCERPT
“Who the hell are you?” The gruffly barked question ricocheted off the walls of the room where they were holding him. Judging by the hollow sound, he was in a metal building. A warehouse? A factory?
“There’s no need to get huffy, Silver. You should remember that I’m the only thing standing between you and a dozen INTERPOL agents champing at the bit to slap their cuffs on your wrists.”
There was the slightest hint of an Irish accent in her posh voice when she said champing. He had a good ear for accents, especially after disappearing in Europe and learning to blend in, so he picked up on that telltale lilt in an instant. Never one to let a golden opportunity to be a smartass pass him up, he smirked. “Sugar, you can slap your cuffs on my wrists all night long.”
“Goodness, Steele and Chrome were right about you.”
At the mention of his former Elite Recon teammates, Silver’s smirk flattened into a sour grimace. “Who the hell are you?” he asked again. “How do you know about Chrome and Steele?”
“I’m not authorized to hand out that information until you have been fully apprised of and agree to the stipulations of my employer. Now, you can sit still, be quiet and listen, or I’m walking out that door and dialing INTERPOL. It’s your choice.”
Goddamn but that haughty voice of hers made his dick throb. He hated himself for getting hot and bothered by Miss Manners, but his reaction to her was undeniable. “Fine,” he said through gritted teeth. “I’m listening.”
“In the last five months alone, you have stolen more than twenty-five million dollars’ worth of high-end jewelry, antiques and art. You’ve aided and abetted half a dozen families in perpetrating major insurance fraud. You have been a very, very naughty boy, Silver.”
“Honey, you are welcome to spank me anytime.” God, how he wished he could see her face! He had never met a woman immune to his charms. Was she biting her lip and trying not to smile? Was she pursing her lips and pretending to be annoyed?
“My employer has chosen to give you a second chance, Silver.” She ignored his come-on and cut right to the chase. “Operation Phoenix decimated Elite Recon, but Elite Metal has risen from its ashes. We’re a small operation, privately funded, and we hand pick our missions to help people who need us the most.”
“Baby, this isn’t Hollywood, and I’m not interested in your A-Team fantasies,” he bit out with irritation.
“For the last twenty-one weeks, we’ve had men following your every move. You’ve been shadowed from one end of Europe to the next. We plucked you from a train in Budapest and brought you here, all the way to Texas, without detection. With one peek at your dossier, I can tell you what meal you had seven weeks ago, the color of the wallpaper in your bedroom in that Tirana bolthole you love so much and how often you change your underwear.”
“My, my, my,” he drawled, “you seem to have a certain pre-occupation with my bedroom and boxers.”
“This is all a joke to you isn’t it?” Disappointment filled her voice. “Maybe Chrome and Steele were right. Maybe you aren’t a good fit for our team—”
“Now hold on a good goddamned minute—”
“No,” she said firmly. “I can see that this was a waste of my time. Good luck with your INTERPOL interrogators. Of course, we both know that once you hit the prison system, Red Wolf will snatch you up and heaven only knows what he’ll do with you.”
“Damn it! Wait!” The mere mention of Red Wolf had him suddenly hungry for vengeance. “I’m not a team player. That much is true.” He used brute strength to hop the chair forward a few feet. “But I’ll learn to hold hands and share if that means I get a chance to whip some terrorist ass. Those fuckers killed my friends. They ruined the lives of my teammates. They need to pay.”
Breathing hard, he waited for her to say something. When she didn’t speak, he began to worry that he might have fucked up yet another opportunity. The thirty year journey of his life was littered with potholes and craters from the all the bridges he had blown up and the friendships he had obliterated.
“Silver,” she spoke gently and almost motherly, “you need to understand that if you come onboard this team, you have to play by our rules. There is no wiggle room here. You either do as you are told and when you are told—or we hand you over to INTERPOL.”
“I won’t live with the threat of INTERPOL over my head for the rest of my life. I’ll play by your rules, but you’ve got to give me something return. You let me earn back the trust of the team. Put me on probation if you have to—but don’t think for one second that I’m going to let you shock collar me for the rest of my life.”
“Fair enough,” she agreed. “If you complete a small number of trial jobs, we’ll slowly let out your leash. The assignments we’ve chosen will make the best use of your rather unique skill set.”
He grinned. “Baby, I’d love to show you my rather unique skill set. How about tonight? You. Me. A hotel suite. I’ll even be a gentleman and let you tie me up first.”
A short burst of laughter escaped Miss Manners. Judging by the quick way she shut it down, he had a feeling she was utterly mortified that she had let her Ice Queen demeanor slip.
“Oh, Silver,” she said with a heavy sigh, “I was warned you might try to sweet talk me.”
“Is it working?”
“Not yet.”
“Is that a dare, Irish Spring?”
The clack of high heels accompanied her long strides toward him. The blindfold was unexpectedly ripped away. Recoiling under the bright lights suddenly searing his eyes, he closed them and winced. When he finally worked up the courage to open them, he was instantly seized by the pair of grass green eyes staring down at him.
Holy shit.
Just like that, he was a goner. Green eyes. Full lips. High cheekbones. Silky skin with the hint of a tan. She had coiled her pale blonde hair into one of those swirly buns at the back of her neck. His fingers just itched to pluck out those pins and comb through the soft waves. What would it be like to have her pinned to a mattress, his fingers tangled in that beautiful hair while he nipped at her creamy neck and urged her toward an orgasm with dirty, filthy talk that would make her cheeks turn pink?
Shifting in his too-tight jeans, he gazed up at the prim beauty standing over him. “If this is a dream, don’t wake me.”

Platinum’s Choice
By Rebecca Royce

Platinum stared at the man across the table and tried to think of all the reasons why killing him was a bad idea. One—they were in public. He actually liked coming to Bone Daddy’s. Getting kicked out for attempted murder would greatly affect the bars he could go locally to have fun. Bone Daddy’s was pretty much it.
Oh who was he kidding? If he took the son of a bitch down, the charge wouldn’t be attempted murder. If Plat wanted to kill Tony De’Fallipi, he’d succeed even without his sniper rifle.
A man’s neck could be broken multiple ways. Snap. Crunch.
He took a pull from his beer.
Two—and it really was imperative he make a quick internal list to hold off his murderous rage—his teammates wouldn’t appreciate having to clean the mess. They’d assist without a doubt. Only Copper alone would never let him live it down. She’d want him to talk about why he’d committed murder in the middle of the day. In a bar.
The sheer amount of time spent managing the fallout would cut into his reading hours.
And finally—three—much as he hated to admit the sad truth, it really wasn’t Tony’s fault he was such a complete and total incompetent jackass. A certain portion of the population had to be born naturally stupid. Platinum could only blame himself for hiring him.
“Are you going to say something?” Tony fidgeted with the coaster on the table. Platinum specialized in noticing details. At the moment, he zeroed in on the tear in the corner of the cardboard drink holder. The picture on top—a pirate holding a beer—seemed ragged, half-destroyed.
Why was the bar using broken coasters? Were they running short on funds? He'd invest in the place, secretly if need be. Losing Bone Daddy’s wasn’t an option.
“Say something.” Tony threw the coaster down on the table and it bounced once before settling on its side. Plat watched the movement for an extra second before he turned his gaze on De’Fallipi.
Tony needed to lose weight, in a big way. Maybe take off two hundred pounds. He hadn’t been as obese the last time Plat met with him. He smoked, everything he had on reeked of it, and if the yellow stain on the side of his mouth indicated anything, probably chewed tobacco.
At five-foot-five inches, the gray haired mess in front of him was a foot shorter than Plat. He really hoped said mess wasn’t about to have a heart attack. The last thing he wanted to do was to have to resuscitate Tony on the floor of the bar.
“When was the last time you went for a physical? Had your sugars checked?”
Plat really shouldn’t care. He’d left medical school behind when he’d been kidnapped and brought into the Elite Metal fold. When he agreed to rejoin his brothers and sister in arms to make right a major cluster fuck, he’d given up healing and fully embraced the sniper within him once again.
Still, old habits died hard. Old personas too, it seemed.
Tony coughed violently before he answered. “Are you kidding? I told you the weird kid I’ve been watching for you for a year is missing and you want to ask about my last physical? Are you on something? Meeting you here in a nowhere bar, never getting any answers. It’s a good thing your checks cash each month.”
His temper surged again. Outside of his team, there wasn’t a soul alive who would notice a change in him. Control and patience were his best friends.
The knocking on death’s door private investigator in front of him pushed all of his buttons. “I heard what you said.”
“I mean why have I been watching a seven year old? Do you have some sick perverted thing about him?”
Platinum stood up. “Thank you for your help. The checks will be stopping. Permanently. I’ll take it from here. He’s eight by the way.”
“The kid is missing. If I can’t find him, he’s gone.” Tony shrugged “You won’t make it further than I did.”
“Doubtful. Seriously.” Plat leaned forward. “And if you ever call the kid weird again, even in the back of your mind, I’ll put a bullet in your head. You’ll never see it coming.”
Since he’d spoken more in the last ten minutes than he talked usually in a week, he turned on his heel and left the bar. His son was missing. It might be nothing or it could mean Platinum’s demons finally figured out how to hit him where it hurt. He’d spent his whole life trying not to make any connections. One drunken assignation with a woman he barely remembered and boom the universe gifted him with a kid he’d known nothing about for six years—a permanent soft underbelly. Even if Kent never learned his father existed.
One of the two people he cared about in the world was unaccounted for…
Rose was okay, she had to be.

Rebecca’s Bio
As a teenager, I would hide in my room to read my favorite romance novels when I was supposed to be doing my homework. I hope, these days, that my parents think it was worth it.

I am the mother of three adorable boys and I am fortunate to be married to my best friend. We’ve just moved from New Jersey to Texas where I am learning to love Barbecue!

I am in love with science fiction, fantasy and the paranormal and try to use all these elements in my writing. I've been told I'm a little bloodthirsty so I hope that when you read my work you'll enjoy the action-packed ride that always ends in romance. I love to write series because I love to see characters develop over time and it always makes me happy to see my favorite characters make guest appearances in other books. In my world anything is possible, anything can happen, and you should suspect that it will.
