The sex, when it's not leaving them on the verge of death, is earth shattering and for the first time in ages Ella is connected with someone on a level she'd feared lost forever. Dark Innocence (Dark #1.5) steps away from our main couple, Micah and Ella, and features Hannah. We left her in a bad place at the end of Dark Cravings – in this novella, with the help of a sexy shape shifter named Dante, she finds her way back into the light…

Dark Innocence Blurb
Hannah Grey will do anything to escape the tortured memories haunting her. Every breath brings back the pain, the fear and the unbearable knowledge that she'll never be the once-perfect girl everyone thought her to be. When the self-destructive fog of drugs, alcohol and meaningless sex starts to clear, Dante, a lion shifter sexier than sin itself, emerges through the darkness ready to rescue her for the second time in so many weeks.

In the safety of Dante's embrace, Hannah allows herself to become the woman she's always wanted to be--smart, sexy, capable and empowered. His every touch electrifies. His hot, hungry kisses set her senses ablaze. As Dante masters her body, Hannah finally finds the strength to master her fears.

Perfection shatters as threats from a mysterious vampire escalate from anonymous phone calls to violent encounters. When Hannah's enemies unite, placing both her and Dante in mortal peril, she's going to need her newfound strength to face the coming darkness and save the man she loves.

And now… finally – what you’ve all been waiting for…

DARK SECRETS (Dark #2)! In this book we re-visit Micah and Ella… Is it domestic bliss or something…else?

Dark Secrets Blurb
The worst moment of Micah’s life was when Ella nearly died in his arms. Her miraculous recovery should have been the start of their future. Unfortunately, a new demonic heritage, the Shadow Agency’s corruption and Julian, the vampire who turned Ella, are testing their relationship. Despite hotter-than-ever sex and a variety of new places and positions to explore, Micah begins to wonder if a relationship based on lust can survive for more than a few scorching-hot months.
Ella has forgiven, but not forgotten, the fact that Micah once plunged a dagger through her heart. Everything with Micah is passion, excitement and an uncontrollable desire to explore his body in a variety of very satisfying ways. But as buried secrets, ongoing lies and murderous deceptions pile up, Ella is reminded that she and Micah’s relationship was based on a curse. In order to forge a future together, Ella and Micah will have to face down their personal demons—and prove that love and trust are more than just words.

Anna's ink- House of Rosenorn

Last month I shared the news that I was getting a new tattoo, and on June 20th I visited Steve at Ghost Dog Tattoo way out, and I do mean waaayy out in Yelm, Washington and got inked. It had been a while since my last tattoo, and I was more nervous this time around then I was back then, but Steve’s set up calmed me down.

Placement is everything, so I knew I wanted to have the art placed on my back were there were fewer curves and less opportunities for sagging and wrinkling as I age, which won’t happen to me because I’m going to be twenty-four forever.(;))  I never really paid any attention to that area of my back before, and as Steve was preparing the stencil, I kept looking over my shoulder at the skin that would be changed forever.

When the stencil went on, I started to laugh. This was it. The moment I waited for for five years. My reward for accomplishing a goal. Three hours later- Ta da!
Fresh Tattoo

Unless you know me or follow me on Facebook or Twitter, you may not know what this symbol is. And as with all symbols, there are several layers of meaning.

Two weeks old
If you ask me, I will tell you that this is the family crest of the House of Rosenorn, but it is much more than that. The Rosenorn family were the rulers of the plant Skandavia in my Heroes of Saturn Series. In the series, the royal guard wear banded tattoos that signify their role within the guard. Since I don’t care for my arms, I decided to have a family crest designed to represent the series. My friend Rob designed the piece and delivered on more than I expected. There’s a science fiction feel which ties into the super hero and space theme, as well as swords for strength and the shield for protection. In the shield and pendant-shaped top you will see the numbers four and two in different positions. The series ended up being four books that released exactly two years apart. The first book and last book released on the same day of the year, which happens to be my birthday. April 2nd.  Cosmic, huh?

The House of Rosenorn crest signifies the launch of my hybrid career. And the first project under that umbrella hits the market in a few weeks. Of course I’ll share that with you all soon.

Who else is ready for some new ink?

How to Write A Novel While Still Working Full-Time...

Many of my friends have asked "How in the hell did you managed to write 4 novels in one year  while still working a full-time job."  My initial response to them 'It's not easy.' But actually its a great question, and since its been a while since my last post, I thought I'd blog about this subject today.

I must admit, these last few years have definitely been a balancing act for me. Work and family commitments take up many of those precious hours during the day when I could be in creative mode writing away.  Still, if you want something bad enough you'll find the time.  My motto has always been "If there's a will. There's always a way."

I seem to find the time no matter how challenging it can be. The truth is I'm very dedicated to the craft. Sometimes, I may only get an hour here or there.  But I also carry a notepad with me, and if I have a few minutes, I'll jot down thoughts that come to me or plot out a scene in my story. I find it fun to escape into a world of my own creation where the characters come to life on the page.  Do I have a crazy imagination. You bet.  But most fiction writers do.

It's rare when a day goes by that I haven't devoted some small portion of my day to writing.  I guess the best way to explain how I accomplished writing 4 novels in a year is that I LOVE to write. It's a passion that draws me to it each and every day.  There is no other way I can explain why I give up sleep, or watching televison among other things to do what I do. But for me its worth it. The only thing that trumps writing is my family. They are more important of course.

I've read that most authors ...are compelled to do it, maybe even a little obsessed. For love of the craft — not the fame or money or accolades. Just writing for the sake of creating art. And you know what, I have to agree with this statement.

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer. Well back to writing...

Decadently Yours,

Diva Simone

Happy 4th of July!! Red, White and Vrooom!

The 4th of July is a big deal in my family. In fact, it’s my brother Joe’s favorite holiday. We even have a banner embroidered with the words, “Happy 4th of Joe-ly” that hangs from the ceiling.

As a kid, the holiday was about family, grilling and shooting bottle rockets through wrapping paper tubes at the neighbors. My parents live in the unincorporated part of the county, and the reservations isn’t that far away. Being in their neighborhood during the 4th is like being in the middle of an expensive fireworks display. I’m serious. The water hose is on standby. As an adult, the holiday is much the same, but with even more fireworks, and with one extra special addition.
Classic automobiles!

For me, the 4th is the unofficial start of classic car show season. The 4th of July festival in my home town includes a bevy of classic cars to peruse. My favorites are the Corvettes and Camaros. Of course, with my dad being a Mustang guy, I do have a soft spot for those as well. Anna Alexander in a '68 Mustang

Each year I get a little braver and venture out to different shows on my own. Trust me, being a lone woman at a car show does lend for some interesting moments. I’m either ignored or granted with a plethora of information I wasn’t expecting. But that’s all right. I wasn’t aware that when shopping for Bel Airs (another favorite) those from 1955 and later are more desirable, because they gained the V8 engine and upgraded battery. That is good information to know.

So while you’re out roasting marshmallows or blowing up M-80s, I’ll be drooling over some beautiful works of machinery and calculating how many books I’ll need to sell to have my own classic car.

Be safe, my friends. Be sane. Well… just be safe, and HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!

Catching Babies: The Orphaned Student

This month I thought I’d try something a bit different. Once upon a time when I was a shiny new midwife I started an online journal about my ‘day job’. It was a way for me to decompress from a job I wasn’t quite prepared for and take my mind off of the fact that I was living away from my friends and family for the first time. It’s now been ten years and working for the NHS is still as surprising, funny, sad and maddening as it was when I was just out of the box. So I thought I’d once again share some of the craziness and give you a glimpse into life as a midwife in the UK. Names will be changed to protect the innocent. My plan at the moment is to try to do this at least once a month but we’ll see how it goes. Please feel free to share your thoughts below and I hope you enjoy.
Cait

June
As we barrel our way through the hazy, crazy days of summer all I can think is that most of the UK must have spent the last days of autumn and the first days of winter last year under their duvets. Together. Because now, nine months later there seems to be plenty of evidence of a job well done. To make matters worse I seem to have picked up a student, Eve, left orphaned and alone when her mentor called in sick, indefinitely. Another casualty of the high stress, long hours and workload that is the reality of our job. I like working with students but she is in the first year of her training, which translates to explaining and doing everything at least twice. It’s a lot of work. Teach me to give in to the pressure that was the combination of my own memory of being a student and gentle persuasion from the University.

Poor Eve has the luck, or misfortune to land in one of the busiest moths of the year so far. Talk about throwing her in at the deep end. Our student midwives in the UK have to deliver forty babies in their three years of training. Within our first three shifts we already had four. One of which was a lady who was pregnant with her fifth baby. She came to labour ward courtesy of a bed and two admissions midwives running her into labour ward fully dilated and pushing. Luckily Eve took me at my word when I answered the call and said to her, “Put your gloves on and open up the delivery pack.” In the corridor outside the delivery room the lady’s waters broke. As we wheeled her into the room she gave a push and the baby appeared as a wriggling, crying, sheet covered shape while the student stood beside her, eyes wide with astonishment. Eve looked at me and said, “I don’t think I can count that. I never even touched her.”
“Well,” I replied, “You were standing beside her and someone’s name has to go in the paperwork. It might as well be yours.” Everyone in the room laughed as relief broke the tension and we finished the job. The baby was dried and placed in her elated mother’s arms and Eve delivered the afterbirth with my guidance. I suppose we can all be grateful those admissions ladies had their running shoes on that day.

And so it continued; seven shifts, eight normal deliveries, three caesarean sections and one ventouse delivery later Eve and I are well acquainted and she hasn’t thrown the towel in yet. I see the beginnings of a midwife in her and it’s kind of awesome to know I had a part in that. I must confess, I do enjoy those first year students, even with all the hard work it entails. We try to ease them in gently, stick to low risk patients (or ‘clients’ as the Uni would have it, they do love their buzz words) try show the students the normality before the reality. I love to give them the exhilaration of being the person to bring life in all its noisy, messy joy into the world. So as the weather heats up along with the labour ward Eve and I drag our tired asses into July. Tired, but not beaten, and ready for the next catch.

Infamous by Irene Preston

Thanks so much to the Divas for inviting me over today to talk about Infamous!

Here’s a little set-up:

Jessica Sinclair is Hollywood’s favorite wild-child, so what’s she doing burning cookies and playing house in the 'burbs?  Conservative soccer dad Morgan Riley can’t figure it out, but he’s happy to have her home and heating things up in his bed.  Then Jessica finds herself back in the tabloids…with Morgan’s teenage daughter right next to her.

There’s a mask on the cover of Infamous. Somehow, I always seem to be talking about the fab shoes, but the mask is really more important to the story. So when Rebecca invited me over to play, I thought I would talk a little about the mask.

The mask on the cover is the one my party-girl heroine, Jessica, wears at the beginning of the book, which opens at a glam Hollywood masquerade ball. But it’s also symbolic of Jessica herself.  Everyone thinks they know Jessica. After all, her life has been relentlessly documented both in the tabloids and in her own tell-all books. And Jessica encourages this…as long as she’s writing the script.

One of the things I love about Jessica is that she is very comfortable in her own skin. She has no problem stepping into almost any role. She can absolutely pull off a Harem Girl scene complete with erotic belly-dancing.  But her whole life is a role. Even when she feels threatened in her marriage this is her go-to strategy. What does Morgan want? What’s his fantasy? Whatever it is, she can provide it in the bedroom.

And that’s where the problems arise. All that role-playing covers up a huge insecurity. She’s not sure she can star in the life the she really wants. Will she be willing to ditch the mask and take a chance?

Well, I’ve brought an excerpt of Jessica in character for you to check out.  It’s all just a bit of fun, after all.

###

Excerpt:

He shook his head and blinked his eyes, but the scene stayed the same. The lights were all out, but candles flickered and danced throughout the room. They gave off a heavy incense that turned his familiar bedroom into something dark and forbidden. Music played softly from the speakers in the ceiling. Not classical, or even pop, but more basic—a tribal sound with a drum beat that echoed in his blood.

Jessica was curled like a cat in the center of the bed. When the door opened, she unfurled herself and stood up. The pagan goddess was back. She was dressed in veils that fluttered around her as she swayed toward him. Her eyes were ringed with kohl. A beaded headdress covered her hair. Bracelets at her wrists and ankles jingled softly as she walked.

She stopped just in front of him and executed an elegant bow. “I’ve been waiting for you.” Then she was touching him, placing soft, open-mouthed kisses along his skin as she unbuttoned his shirt, kneeling gracefully in front of him to open his pants.

It was an ambush, he thought. But he couldn’t take his eyes off her. When her mouth closed over him, he gripped her hair to hold her against him as he lost himself in the beat of the drums.
