Tattoos and artwork!!!

I'm writing this on the 23rd of September. It's a Tuesday. But a really special day.
I'm getting the tattoo finished on my side today. Scroll work, flowers, and leaves extend from almost all the way up under my armpit down past my hip bone. It has kanji down the center and then katakana along both sides in the middle. I'm having some highlights finished today, the shading added, and several butterflies incorporated into the design. Why butterflies? A very special reason for people I want to keep as close as my tattoo.
It's special.
Empowering.
Personal.
It keeps me grounded when I need reminders of how lucky I am in this thing called life.

Because you know what?
Life ROCKS!!!!!!!

Look for pics of it on the 29th!!!

Artwork - it makes me smile! I'm buying a few pieces for a new home and just seeing these simple things makes me smile every time I see them. So fun!

MWAH!!

And if you need a little bit more kinky stuff on your e-reader then I can help with that too. :)

Anna's ink- House of Rosenorn

Last month I shared the news that I was getting a new tattoo, and on June 20th I visited Steve at Ghost Dog Tattoo way out, and I do mean waaayy out in Yelm, Washington and got inked. It had been a while since my last tattoo, and I was more nervous this time around then I was back then, but Steve’s set up calmed me down.

Placement is everything, so I knew I wanted to have the art placed on my back were there were fewer curves and less opportunities for sagging and wrinkling as I age, which won’t happen to me because I’m going to be twenty-four forever.(;))  I never really paid any attention to that area of my back before, and as Steve was preparing the stencil, I kept looking over my shoulder at the skin that would be changed forever.

When the stencil went on, I started to laugh. This was it. The moment I waited for for five years. My reward for accomplishing a goal. Three hours later- Ta da!
Fresh Tattoo

Unless you know me or follow me on Facebook or Twitter, you may not know what this symbol is. And as with all symbols, there are several layers of meaning.

Two weeks old
If you ask me, I will tell you that this is the family crest of the House of Rosenorn, but it is much more than that. The Rosenorn family were the rulers of the plant Skandavia in my Heroes of Saturn Series. In the series, the royal guard wear banded tattoos that signify their role within the guard. Since I don’t care for my arms, I decided to have a family crest designed to represent the series. My friend Rob designed the piece and delivered on more than I expected. There’s a science fiction feel which ties into the super hero and space theme, as well as swords for strength and the shield for protection. In the shield and pendant-shaped top you will see the numbers four and two in different positions. The series ended up being four books that released exactly two years apart. The first book and last book released on the same day of the year, which happens to be my birthday. April 2nd.  Cosmic, huh?

The House of Rosenorn crest signifies the launch of my hybrid career. And the first project under that umbrella hits the market in a few weeks. Of course I’ll share that with you all soon.

Who else is ready for some new ink?

Anna Alexander is Getting a Tattoo!

Like some of my other Diva sisters, I have a love of body art. A well-executed tattoo can be more beautiful than the finest oil painting or a marble statute. They can be a symbol of a great struggle, or of family, or a representation of a person’s soul. When that art is inked correctly, or course. J

I am a firm believer that one can become addicted to tattoos. I have observed that a person has either one tattoo or twenty. If they only have two or three, that usually means they have two or three for now. Knowing that I had a penchant to become covered from head to toe though I really don't wish to be, I have stuck with my one and only tattoo. I was eighteen when I had it done, and I wanted a piece to symbolize the inner me not very many people knew I had inside. That version of me was stronger than I appeared, more daring, cool and artistic and not afraid to take a risk. When I saw the snake and dagger tattoo at the shop, I knew that was the one for me and I’ve worn it proudly ever since.

My first tattoo. Thanks mom!
But that was a long time ago, and every once in a while I caught myself thinking, “Hmmm. Maybe it’s time for another.”  Then I’d get all glassy-eyed as I start to look at all sorts of pretty things to have inked onto my skin. As a compromise to myself, I made a pact. The only way I would get a second tattoo is if I accomplished a goal, and not just any goal, something major. Something epic. And what could be more major than a goal related to my writing?

And thus, the objective was set- When (notice I say when and not if) I sold a series to a publisher, when the last book in the series released, I would get a tattoo to symbolize that series.

This past April, my book Hero Rising released from Ellora’s Cave. This is the last of the Heroes of Saturn series. Five years since I set the goal and now it’s time to commemorate that achievement with some kick-ass ink.  Yay!! As you can imagine, the design took months to come together as I worked with an artist to create the perfect symbol of my world. But that is a story I’ll share with you another day.
My friend Rob thought it would be funny to give me twenty choices.
Yeah, hysterical.

So now I am on the hunt for an artist. I think this process is even more stressful than picking the design!
Join me next month when I share the finished product!
