Celia's #SummerReads: Meet the Tranquilli #Vampires

Vampire Code BOOK COVER  Hello Dear Decadent Readers!

 I hope you're having a fabulous summer.

Post-family vacation, I'm deep in edit-mode on the third book in my Tranquilli Bloodline series, currently working on a tension-filled section where my heroine and her mate encounter some serious, life-altering roadblocks to their Happily Ever After.

Since everyone deserves a little R&R, I've pulled Carina and Alexander from their peril-filled universe and brought them along to Decadant Divas today. They've agreed to answer some questions while they're here.

MEET CARINA & ALEXANDER

Hi Guys. Thanks for joining me on the Decadent Diva Blog today. Let's ease you into this interview with a no-brainer: Introduce each other, please...

CARINA: Alexander is 45 in human years. He doesn't look a day over about 28 since he was turned in his twenties. Oh, I suppose you should know he's a vampire. He's a native San Franciscan, and a kickass musician. And sexy as hell.

ALEXANDER: ::removes sunglasses and settles in chair:: Flattery will get you everywhere. Carina is 25 and a successful businesswoman. Her dance club in the Castro is one of the best in town. She loves sushi and sake. And she's smokin' hot.

When and where is your story set?

CARINA: Mostly in present day, San Francisco, CA. A lot of the action happens in my dance club in Haven. I open a new club in DESTINY, so we hang out there, too. And then Celia flew us to Italy for ORIGINS.

ALEXANDER: What Carina said. We also have some interesting...moments outside in the park, in the museum, in my bed... ::shoots Carina a sly grin:: ah, there's that blush I like.

CARINA: I'll get you back, wait and see. ::cheeky grin::

What is the main conflict in the series? In other words, what messes up your life?

CARINA: Oh boy, I'll field this one. You see, I have this pesky vampire family. They messed with my head and left me alone for many years, but now they're back. And lucky me, their enemies followed. I seem to be the center of the conflict between Team Good (my family) and Team Evil, whether I want to be or not. Believe me, I do not.

What is your personal goal in the series?

CARINA: So, my author Celia named the first book in our series HAVEN for precisely this reason: my personal goal. The word HAVEN means “a place of safety or refuge.” I want to make a home for myself and my community. When Haven opens, I'm estranged from my three brothers, so I create a home for myself with my best friends. With my friend and business partner Adrian, I build our dance club, Haven. Our club is a safe space where *everyone* is welcome. Our new club, Destiny (book 2) is a part of this ongoing goal. A safe space or "home" for the preternatural community (and humans in-the-know) to gather and enjoy themselves. In Origins, we go back to my roots: it's time to make peace with my dad. Hopefully...

ALEXANDER: As for me... Carina is my goal.

CARINA: ::grins:: Sweet talker.

If you could join any past or current music group, which would you want to join?

CARINA: Cibo Matto. Or the Beatles.

ALEXANDER: Nice, baby. For me: Nine Inch Nails.

How often do you buy clothes? And what styles do you prefer?

CARINA: Fairly often. Some of my friends are local designers so I tend to shop at their work spaces or other San Francisco boutiques. Style-wise, I lean toward urban chic, and a whole lot of black.

ALEXANDER Like my woman, I shop at the private boutiques, primarily those catering to the preternatural community. They're located off Union Square. Go there after sundown, of course. As for my style, ::lifts arms:: my Carina calls me her “edgy, urban, rock star.”

If you could go back in time, what year would you travel to?

ALEXANDER: I’d go back to the first time I saw Carina, walking in front of my car in the Castro. External forces kept us apart that day and for too long after. I’d change that.

CARINA: ::scowls and crosses arms:: Really, Celia? You know what I'm going to say. I'd go back to the day my family stole my freaking memories when I was a kid and stop them. Hmph.

Well, on that note, lol... thanks for hanging with me today at Decadent Divas. I hope we can do this again soon!

::Alexander unfolds Carina's arms and pulls her onto his lap.:: Happy to return. Nice to have Carina all to myself... ::smiles, smoky blue eyes sparking with heat::

CARINA: ::melts against her man:: Love you, Celia, though you torture me so.

The Writer Takes a Vacation !!!

I love going on vacation .. preferably by myself or with a close friend. Someplace warm in the winter, cooler in the summer. Or ... Las Vegas anytime.

However, sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and take a family vacation. The problem is, most writers haven't a clue about taking a vacation. Our schedules are regimented when we write, whether we do it full time or grab a hour here or there. Vacations throw us off our mindset.

And, heaven forbid, if said vacation takes place in cramped quarters. During my travels (by car) with family, I did realize a few things:
  1. You can't listen to romance novels on tape (at least not mine) with a 5 yr old in the car.
  2. Not every stop along the way is going to offer research opportunities. Unless, of course, you're writing about a fast-food restaurant with bigger-than-life reptiles in their play area.
  3. You always see something worth writing down when you're the one driving.
  4. Social media must be delayed until the grandchildren are asleep. Unfortunately, by then, you're just too tired to care about promotion.
  5. Ideas for new plots will attack you from all sides and from the most impractical places. For both #3 above and this observation, keep a tape recorder handy.
  6. Finally, you definitely don't get to read as much as you'd planned!

Hopefully everyone will get to enjoy a vacation this summer. If so, remember the sunblock (even for the car), a few good books, the tape recorder or notepad for plot ideas, and lots of patience if you're traveling with small children!

Looking for a good summer read ... here's a suggestion ... just in case you're already not hot enough!

Boston, 1991

Decorated war hero Reece Michaels agrees to go undercover in order to bring down the Irish Mob. In return, the civilian life he’s coveted for the past six years will be returned to him.

Hired by mob boss Sean O’Malley to protect his youngest son, Reece soon discovers the young man needs more protection from his own family than its enemies.

What Reece doesn’t count on is his instant attraction to the police chief’s beautiful and willing daughter. Abby Mackenzie is the younger sister of a woman with whom Reece once had a torrid affair. He’s determined to not give in to Abby’s come-hither ways. After all, one Mackenzie woman was more than enough.

Summer Movie Picks

I love going to the movies. I especially like going to the afternoon matinees, which tend to be less crowded. Thankfully my job allows me to do that.

I’ve already been to some of the big movies—Deadpool 2, Avengers: Infinity Wars, and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, but there are more movies yet to come.

Here are 5 of the movies I’m looking forward to seeing during July and August.

Ant-Man and the Wasp. I love a good action movie and Marvel knows how to do it right. I figure this will be lots of action and fun.

Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! Love me some Abba songs. I mean, what’s not to love? It should be fun with lots of great music.

Mission: Impossible – Fallout. I’ve seen the rest of them so I’ll see this one. The stunts scenes are always great.

Christopher Robin. I love Winnie the Pooh and this story looks to be wonderful. I can’t wait to see Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore, and Tigger.

The Meg. It’s got Jason Statham. It’s got a big shark. I’m there. LOL

And if you’re looking for something to read, check out the Dalakis Passion Boxed Set, which contains the first three books in the series for the low price of $4.99.

The first three books in the sizzling Dalakis Passion vampire romance series, from New York Times and USA Today bestselling author N. J. Walters!

Harker’s Journey

From the first moment Johanna Harker read Bram Stoker’s Dracula, her life changed forever. The book unleashed an obsession with vampires that was all the more compelling for the intensely erotic dreams that filled her nights. It wasn’t long before she was consumed with thoughts of the dark creature who returned to ravish her in her dreams again and again . . .

Lucian’s Delight

For years Delight Deveraux suffered from a recurring nightmare of being savagely attacked and assaulted, until the night a mysterious stranger appears in her dream to rescue her. When the same scene plays itself out in real life just days later, with the same mesmerizing dream man coming to her rescue, Delight suddenly finds herself swirling in a haze of passion and confusion, between what’s real and what’s not. But Lucian Dalakis is real, and he intends not just to save her but to bind her to himself for all time . . .

Stefan’s Salvation

Laurel Rose McCaffey never minded being branded an outsider, even when it meant carving out a solitary life for herself in the wooded hills of North Carolina. Now resort developers want to take her land, and vicious locals who stand to benefit from the deal have begun making threats. When a dark stranger enters her life, first as a protector, then as a lover, Laurel Rose is both fascinated and frightened by his mysterious power and all-consuming sensuality . . .

GET TO KNOW ME

I love learning personal facts about authors, their favorite vices, obsessions, maybe even some secrets. I'm nosey, er, curious about people. So I thought I'd do a Get to Know Me post since I never actually formally introduced myself here.

FACT: I've lived in California over 20 years, but I'm a New Yorker at heart. Yup, raised in Brooklyn in an Italian neighborhood where the men would "leave the gun and take the cannoli" if ya know what I mean. Pizza, a semolina loaf, salami, and black and white cookies were my 4 major food groups growing up. I lived a block away from the bakery in this photo, which is where the bakery scenes in the movie, Moonstruck were filmed.

http://whisper.sh/whisper/0518ae519891fb882747fe107dffbf6af97747/I-think-my-cup-of-coffee-just-said-youre-my-bitch

VICE: Coffee. How cliche, I know, but put it this way--If I could walk around with an IV drip of coffee all day, I would. I started drinking coffee back when no one knew what a cappuccino was, Starbucks hadn't been born yet, and it sure in the hell didn't cost over $2 a cup.

OBSESSION: Halloween. Let's just say this: It's only July and I'm already buying stuff for Halloween. Actually, I started in May. Truthfully, I started getting ideas about it on November 1, 2017. It's a year-round obsession. Oh, and I dress my diva dog to match me on Halloween. She knows if she wants to roll with this family, she's got to be a good sport. The boy? He's just in it for the candy. He may or may not have been switched at birth. I'm still waiting to see whether he rises to the occasion in the future.

ANIMALS: I've had 7 cats at one time, however, at the present moment, we have 4 cats, a diva Chihuahua, a destructive bunny, and our parakeet just died. Yes, I'm open to more cats.

LOVE LIFE: I'm 50 and have never been married. I've been a single mom for the last 15 years, and only since this February on my 50th birthday did I become engaged for the first time. To a man I was in love with 35 years ago. (Awwww) Guess when we're getting married? Halloween 2020! Mwahaha!

CAREER: I'm all over the place with my writing. I've published 2 romantic comedies, The Accidental Cougar and The Meatball Mistress, an erotic romance, The Submissive Muse, and am now shopping around a young adult novel. I've also started a romantic thriller...so yeah, no set niche for me.

That's it for now. Hope everyone is staying cool this summer.

Shazam! Books! by Ripley Proserpina

July is going to be a busy month for my book releases! Like a lot of authors, writing is but one of my jobs and the summer time is when I go balls-to-the-wall Hamilton-style “why do you write like you’re running out of time?”

So I’m really excited about these upcoming releases and wanted to share them.

While Beauty Sleeps is a reverse harem fairytale retelling of Sleeping Beauty that releases July 24th!

"She shall prick her finger and fall to sleep...”

There once was a girl who was born to be cursed. By no fault of her own, she was doomed to remind her kingdom of everything ugly. No matter how many good deeds she did or how kind she was, it was her destiny to die, and take her kingdom with her. Her mother and father wept when they saw her, and the witch who cursed her celebrated gleefully as each year passed.

Except there was hope. Her sisters, older and wiser, and with no small amount of magic of their own, countered the witch's curse. If Kumiko could be loved, truly loved, the curse would be broken, and everyone would see what the witch had hidden.

But all her life, Kumiko had been let down—by the parents who hid her away and by an ill-fated curse.

Until they arrived.

Four princes, full of smug confidence and pride, were determined to break the princess's curse before her twenty-first birthday.

All they had to do was fall in love.

I’m also releasing this July, Revolution and Rising. This is the final book in my Wishes and Curses Duet, and has two of my very favorite characters who’ve ever emerged, fully-formed, from my brain. (I know, we're not supposed to have favorite children, I know.). Polya is a princess born with fangs and a tiger’s tail, and Anatoliy is a brave soldier whose misspent wish turned him into a bear.

With every wish comes a curse…

Polya survived the Hunt, but Anatoliy did not. Now the citizens of Konstantin are rising up, revolting against the king who tortured them and the royals who allowed it to happen.

Mourning Anatoliy, Polya struggles to continue to fight. With Anatoliy’s dying breath, she finally made her wish, and still, the bear breathed his last.

Except, the devil heard Polya, and granted her wish.

Anatoliy lives, not as a bear, but as the soldier he was before he was cursed. Now, he has one mission—find Polya.

As Polya makes her away across Konstantin, Anatoliy gives chase, determined to find her. Faced with the ruin King Aleksandr wrought, and the anger of the people, Anatoliy and Polya strive to find each other and survive.

But Polya’s wish had a consequence, and the devil is biding his time. Will Polya and Anatoliy be reunited? Or will the revolution rise up, and drag them all into hell?

And finally, I’m also releasing the third and final book of my reverse harem paranormal vampire romance, Diadem of Blood and Bones
