 Excerpt

With a sigh, Nathaniel straightened his mess and tucked his notebook away in the breast pocket of his coat. He reached for the lamp to douse the light but paused when something banged against the wall of the records room.
Most of the RIO staff had left for the evening. By now he should have the offices to himself, with the exception of the security officer who patrolled through the night. But he would have sworn he recently heard the officer’s footsteps echoing down the hallway.
As silently as possible he exited the file room. At the door to the records room, he paused and listened. There were shuffling sounds, like boxes being moved about, as well as odd clicks and whirls. Almost like a clock with a gear out of alignment.
“No, not that one,” someone whispered on the other side of the door.
Was that a woman’s voice?
“Hurry. We don’t have much time.”
Again, no response to the whisper, but the clicking sounds multiplied.
Nathaniel checked the lock on the door. It had been opened. The intruder either had a key or a considerable talent with locks. The locks used at the RIO were unusual and gave even the most experienced lock picks trouble.
He pulled his derringer from his pocket then as quietly as possible turned the door handle. The last click of the latch set off a flurry of activity inside the room.
So much for a stealthy entry.
He positioned himself against the wall, yanked the door open, and leveled his gun on whatever he found inside the room.
Some kind of insect jumped off one of the file cabinets onto Nathaniel’s outstretched hand and pinched him.
“Ouch!” He shook his hand and tried to dislodge the bug, but it moved too fast. “What the bloody hell?” He bellowed when the bug ran across his arm then down his chest and leg to the floor.
“Don’t hurt her. She won’t hurt you,” a woman called out from the other side of the cabinet. “Nid, get over here.” Papers were shuffled and more clicks came from that side of the room.
Her voice was familiar. Nathaniel lowered his gun but kept it at the ready as he made his way to the other side. As he crept forward he looked left and right for more bugs. “Who is that and what are you doing in here?”
More shuffling of papers. A drawer slammed shut. The woman whispered, “Squeaks. Hopper. Get in.”
Nathaniel stepped around the end of the cabinets and leveled his gun at the person crouched next to the cabinet. He blinked in surprise at the woman who looked up at him. “Trixie?”
Beatrix Wadeworth froze with her hand extended to two small creatures that resembled a toy mouse and small rabbit. “Nathaniel?” She started to stand, then paused and scooped up the toys and slipped them into her pocket. “I uh…” She glanced behind him toward the door.
He took two steps forward and grabbed her by the arm. “Don’t even think about it.”
“Wh… what are you doing here?” she asked breathlessly.
“I work for the Royal Intelligence Office so I’m allowed to be here but you’re not.” He tightened his grip on her arm. “What are you doing here?”
Two of the bugs ran up his arm. He tried to brush them off, but only managed hit one of them.
“Nid, it’s okay.” She nabbed the one shaped like a spider. “Come here.”
“What are those?” They looked like bugs, but the whirling noise and clicks gave away the fact that they weren’t.
“They’re my, well…” She shrugged and dropped the one she’d taken off his arm into the pouch at her waist. “They’re my friends.”
“Friends?” One of her other toys scratched at his pant leg as it tried to climb it.
“Oh, sorry.” She reached for the creature but stopped when her face drew too close to an area of his anatomy that no proper young woman should be near.
“I’ll get it.” He released her arm, slid his pistol back into its holster, then plucked the tiny mechanical insect from his thigh. He examined it for a moment then dropped it into her open palm. The strange assortment of metal gears and parts were shaped to resemble a scorpion.
“Thank you,” she murmured.
“How many more of those do you have?”
“I only brought five of them with me.”
He opened his mouth to say something then shook his head. “You can’t be here.”
“What the deuce is going on in here?”
Trixie’s eyes widened with alarm. Nathaniel groaned. Great, the security officer had found them.

Smoking Holt by Sabrina York

Bella Cross has had a thing for Holt Lamm since college, but his scorching dominant energy scares her to death. And his list of conquests annoys her. But when Holt catches her smoking, and offers her something else to fixate on—if only for a night—she simply cannot resist.

Poor Bella. In this scene, she’s a little torn. On the one hand, she is utterly enthralled by the prospect of having Holt Lamm in her bed. On the other hand, his arrogance annoys her and the thought of submitting to his dominance scares her to death.
Their back and forth serves as a preliminary negotiation for their play, but Bella is bound and determined to make sure Holt understands that she is not some simpering doormat he can boss around.
Little does she know, that’s just the way he likes it.
Enjoy this excerpt from Smoking Holt by Sabrina York.
Smoking Holt is book three in the Tryst Island Series. Each book is a stand-alone romantic romp.

READ AN EXCERPT OF SMOKING HOLT

“One would think you would know a little more about the lifestyle, considering the clientele you serve.”
Her frown became a glower. “What the fuck is that supposed to mean?”
“I’ve been to your shop. I’ve seen your ‘BDSM section’.”
She frowned. “Why do you say it like that?” With air quotes?
“It’s hardly comprehensive.”
Her lips flapped. “It’s perfectly comprehensive.”
But he just snorted. “At any rate, it’s pretty clear you don’t understand a thing about the life, if you think it’s about a man bullying a woman. In fact, the Dom is not the one in control,” he said. “Not in a truly healthy D/s relationship. The sub calls the shots. Draws the lines. It’s a partnership, Bella, but the sub controls everything.”
She crossed her arms over her chest. “That is hard to believe.”
“I’d be happy to give you a demonstration.” The way he said it, with that quirk of his dark brow, the glint in his eyes, sent a sizzle of annoyance—and something else—through her.
“Fuck you, Holt.”
He grinned. “Okay.”
Goddamn it. She wasn’t sure which annoyed her more. His simmering sensuality or his goddamn teasing. Both were nearly irresistible. She hated that her lips tweaked in a smile. He would take a smile as encouragement, she was certain of it.
Sure enough, he took that last, lethal step and yanked her into his arms, sealing them together. His was hot, hard, huge. She tipped up her chin and glared at him, opened her mouth to say something else, something pithy and snarly. Something that would drive him away and give her room to fucking breathe—
But he didn’t give her time. No time to think of something pithy. No time to prepare. No time to shore up her defenses.
His mouth took hers. There was no other way to describe it. He covered her, smothered her, soaked her with his taste and his scent, suffused her with sensation. The rub of his lips over hers, the nibbles, the nips, the bold forays of his tongue, all scrambled her brain. His hands cupped her ass, rubbing her against his body, dragging her groin over his. Somewhere in the back of her mind, she was aware that he was guiding her, moving her, walking her backwards in a relentless drive to crawl inside her.
And then she hit the wall.
Literally.
He backed her up against the wood paneling of the great room and pressed against her, hard. His cock was like a stone. A fat, throbbing stone. Almost painful against the tender flesh of her belly.
A flash of pure, unadulterated lust snarled through her. Because he was hard. For her.
Oh sure, he’d probably be hard if he was mouth fucking Kristi here against the wood paneling. Or Emily. Or Lucy.
Or Lassie.
But this one was for her.
She knew she should push him away. As goddamn aggressive as he was, Holt would respect a “No” from a woman he didn’t have a contract with. But something deep within her soul howled at the prospect of ending this. Just yet.
It was too fucking thrilling.
A chance like this would never come again. Not in a million years.
She could fuck him tonight. Have a crazy, dirty, sweaty fuckfest tonight and then tomorrow, blame it on the whiskey.
His lips released hers, but only so he could move to her neck, to work her, suckle her, nibble on the sensitive screaming skin there. Bella threw back her head so he had better access. She lifted her leg and wrapped it around his waist, plastering her slit against the monstrosity bulging at the juncture of his thighs.
“Shit,” he growled, undulating against her. Sizzles of delight washed through her in waves, concentric, fucking phenomenal waves. She scored his scalp in a rake of need.
“You’re not tying me up,” she grunted.
He lifted his head. His scorching gaze slammed through her, making her chit throb, her pussy clench. A warm wetness dampened her inner thighs. Her panties were soaked. “You’re in charge here, Bella,” he said, his voice breaking on the words. “You make the rules.”
“And no fucking whips and chains.” He chuckled. She hated that he chuckled, so she fisted his hair and yanked. “And no goddamn nipple clamps.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
As though she’d reminded him she did, in fact, have nipples, he cupped her breasts and thumbed them, then brought his fingers together. Tightly. The pinch made her knees go weak. She hissed a noise, something between a sigh and a feral groan.
“You like that? You like it a little rough?” His voice was silky and smooth. Practiced. As though he’d said these words before. To thousands of women.
“Fuck you, Holt.”  She glared at him. When he grinned, laughed at her vehemence, she sank her nails into his scalp and wrenched him closer. This time she took his mouth. Ravaged his mouth. Fucked his mouth. She thrust in her tongue, explored, dominated him.
Yeah. He’d fucked legions. But he would remember her. He would fucking remember her.
She’d make damn sure of it.

TL Reeve joins the divas today to share Winter Magic!!

Blurb:

There's magic in the air...

Kalum Truesdale is willing to take the leap and mate. Fawn Hawthorne has been at his finger tips for months now since his return, but the timid wolf rebuffs him at every turn. With the Winter Solstice right around the corner, he's got a couple of tricks up his sleeves to finally catch the elusive wolf.

Fawn Hawthorne isn't ready for a mate. After years of torture, all she wants is to be left alone. However, the handsome and persistent Kalum Truesdale, isn't willing to let her hide. So, when presents start arriving in the days leading up to the Solstice, Fawn has a decision to make. Take what Kalum is offering her, happiness and love. Or continue to fear the world around her while always wondering, what if?

Excerpt:

“Hello?” The alarm chimed seconds after Kalum called out. His heavy footfalls echoed against her hardwood floors. “Your welcome light is off, sugar.”

His scent filled her workspace. The clean, crisp smell wrapped around her, draping her in its safety. Her mind betrayed her, encouraging her to use him as a security blanket of sorts. “Well you weren’t due here for another half hour so….” She shrugged. Taking another bite of breakfast, she frowned and smacked her lips together. God, she hated oatmeal.

“Right. Sorry. I have a guy I need to meet in Rapid City about a couple head of cattle. Here.” He handed over his information and a small four-by-four box.

“What’s this?” She eyed the plain box suspiciously.

“Don’t know, sug. Why don’t you open it?” Kalum sat in the chair across from her and extended his lean yet muscular legs. The cocky gleam in his eyes along with his relaxed posture unnerved her.

“How about no. Now” —she pushed her bowl away from her—“are you buying today or selling?”

He scratched his chin. The rasp of his scruffy beard sent a shiver down her spine. Kalum stared at her, narrowing his eyes before he shifted and sat up a bit as though contemplating a chess move or a new strategy with which to approach her. The top three buttons on his plaid shirt were open, exposing the white thermal underneath. Why did she feel disappointed at not being able to glimpse his sun-kissed flesh? Or the smattering of coarse chest hair? God, how many nights had she imagined running her fingers through it while wrapped in his embrace? His hands on her body, caressing her.

“Selling,” he said, jolting her out of her thoughts. “The spring brought me five bulls and six heifers. I’ve already got my studs. I don’t need more. As luck has it, this fellow does.”

“Great,” she answered while opening his file on the laptop. “Anything else I should know about before you go?”

“Have dinner with me, Fawn.”

“What?” She blinked and glanced up at him. “Kalum, we can’t. We have a professional relationship. I don’t blur lines.”

“Hmm.” He went back to rubbing his chin. “Well, I hate to do this, but you’re fired, sug.”

Fawn laughed. “We both know you’re not serious, especially after the attempts I’ve made to find you several new accountants.”

“Sugar, I’m dead serious if it means you’ll go out with me.” He leaned forward and tipped his hat up. “You went through all the work of finding replacements because you’re scared. I get it. However, we both know if I let you ship me off—whether because I force your hand by firing you or I take on one of those accountants you found, we’ll both be hurting.”

“You don’t know for sure, Kalum,” she whispered. It already hurt her to see him every day. He was the one thing she desired more than her next breath, but taking a step, making a move—any kind of move—could destroy everything she’d worked so hard on—herself.

“You can’t deny you feel the pull, Fawn. It’s been there since I moved home. We’ve been doing this Texas two-step around each other for a while now. Don’t you think we owe it to each other to try a cha-cha instead?”
