Show Some Love to My Author Sisters-Together We Stand Strong!

On Monday the news broke. Ellora’s Cave was going to start “winding business down” and close their doors. Recently, there was another publisher who said the same thing, only to jerk their authors around for almost a year then said, hey, we never said we were closing. But in this case, I’m going to believe Ellora’s Cave will soon be gone.

I, too, was once an EC author. Technically, I guess I still am for another few days until my contract runs out. (Yeah, that rights reversal letter was a bit BS). Several of my Decadent Diva sisters were as well. While the road was shaky, I made some of my best friends while with EC, and for that I am grateful.

So to celebrate the light at the end of the tunnel, I ask that you support former Ellora’s Cave authors and check out the books they worked damn hard to get back and re-released into the wild.

Cara Carnes: More shifter hotness.

And then there are the women whom I’ve met. The women I've shaken hands with. Women I've hugged, laughed and enjoyed several inappropriate jokes with.

I know! So many names and there are a thousand more out there. If you know of some great former EC authors, list them in the comments section, then go, show your support and check out these fantastic books.

Until next time.

New Release!!! Only at The Cavern by Anna Alexander

Marco DeWinter is finally getting some action. Yep. A year later the latest installment of the Heroes of Saturn spin-off series is available for your reading enjoyment.

Marco was one of those characters where the moment he appeared on the scene, he demanded his own story. Seriously. All I needed a big city police contact for Dhavin and Brett to have to work with when Fiona was kidnapped in Hero Unmasked. The moment Marco opened the door and smiled, I knew I needed to know more about this man. He went from ally to antagonist in Hero Rising where he also met his heroine, although he didn't know it at the time. :)

Welcome to the Cavern where all who enter get exactly what they need.

Only at The Cavern
Book 6 in the Heroes of Saturn series

Ever since police Captain Marco DeWinter discovered Dr. Jasmine Jovanovich’s secret life as a dominatrix, he has wanted to be on the receiving end of a set of handcuffs and feel the bite of her stiletto in his back as she makes him worship at her feet.
Jasmine agrees to be his guide into the darker pleasures and is delighted when he dives in with the same enthusiasm as he does his police work. That is until he makes her question her “only at The Cavern” policy, and wants to blur the lines between her professional and personal life. When Jasmine is caught in the fallout of one of his cases, Marco must convince her that not only can she trust him to keep her body safe, but her heart as well.

Excerpt

Abby set a thick manila envelope on the table. “This was on the porch when I arrived.”

He righted the envelope to see his name and address scrawled in an elegant script across the front. In the corner was an address. No name, only a return address that he recognized.

The Cavern.

Immediately his dick began to harden and he jumped from his seat to race out of the room towards his office. “Be right back,” he mumbled.

His hands shook as he practically mauled the fastener and withdrew a black folder. Purple feathers framed his name, which was written in gold ink in the same script as the envelope. Inside were what looked like legal documents, and his eyes were immediately drawn to the two names on top. Marco DeWinter and Mistress Jasmina.

“Hot damn,” he groaned and fell into his chair behind his desk.

In the left pocket was a typewritten letter on heavy cream-colored stock. The purple feather image was stamped on the top in metallic ink. The paper fluttered as he withdrew it from the pocket and held it up to the light.

My dearest Captain,

You have been invited to join me in my dungeon at The Cavern to begin your introduction into the bondage, domination, sadist, masochist lifestyle in which you recently expressed an interest. Under my tutelage you will receive the proper instruction and guidance on how to behave as a submissive and the skills to please your Mistress. All of our interactions will be conducted with safety and respect as the utmost priorities.

In this folder you will find the contract outlining the exact details of our arrangement. Read this document in its entirety and answer all questions honestly. Any false answers or hedging
could lead to serious complications or dangerous situations, and could be grounds for immediate termination of the agreement.

The journey to accepting one’s submissive nature is difficult and mentally taxing. You will experience highs and lows you have never imagined. This lifestyle is not for everyone, and I will understand if you decide not to accept my invitation. You will learn that in all things, you always have a choice.

Please text me your response to the number listed below. If you wish to continue, bring the completed contract to the bar at Tutala, Thursday evening at 8pm to discuss your answers and solidify our arrangement. If your work schedule does not allow for this time, please let me know of an alternative.

I look forward to your reply.

Mistress Jasmina’s signature was scrawled across the bottom in purple ink along with a phone number.

“Wow.” Marco blew out a breath and wiped his hand over the back of his neck. “Wow.”

This chick was serious. If he hadn’t seen her in action the night before, he might have thought she was acting way over the top with this entire dominatrix persona. If anything, this letter coupled with the sight of her cracking that whip confirmed she was one hundred percent committed to her role. One miscalculation on her part and that sub could have been castrated on the spot.

And you want a piece of that?

Yeah. Maybe. Hell, he wasn’t certain. After what he had witnessed along with that letter, it was crystal clear this was no game to Mistress Jasmina. If he was in, he had to be in one hundred percent. If not, then he needed to leave her the hell alone and stop tormenting himself with fantasies of what might have been.

He pulled out the contract and flipped through the pages. His balls drew up into his body and he felt his eyes bug out of their sockets the more he read. Mistress Jasmina was certainly thorough. There was a section for his medical history, which was left for him to fill out, but under the instructions on how to obtain a blood test for any sexually transmitted diseases, she had marked “already fulfilled”. His blood must have been tested when he was in the hospital.

“Whoa.”

While it was comforting to know he wasn’t carrying any STDs, he was horrified to realize he hadn’t even thought about the consequences of engaging in this sort of activity. When she said safety was a priority, she was leaving no stone unturned.

After the section on the cancellation policy and communication protocols (sexting was allowed, photos were not) came the list of likes and dislikes.

“Oh. My. God,” he groaned and dropped his head in his hands. “What the fuck is a Gates of Hell?”

Rope bondage. Prison scene. Shibari. He didn’t know what two-thirds of the items were and the rest just fucking blew his mind. Whatever they were, his cock was ready to try all of them out. It was practically bursting from his pants as if it wanted to read the list itself.

“Marco. Dinner’s ready.” The patter of Abby’s footsteps drew near.

“Fuck.” He slid the fancy folder under the ink blotter and covered the contract with his arms. “I’ll be right there.”

Her cute little face appeared in the doorway. “Are you working?”

“Kinda of. Just some L&I paperwork.”

Poor girl. She had no idea her brother was such a pervert.

Shari Nichols is Blogging Today with the Divas Spotlighting her New Release Witch Hunter

Witch Hunter
By Shari Nichols

Long before El James exploded on the scene with her debut novel Fifty Shades of Grey, also known in some circles as mommy porn, many authors came before her and penned their own brand of erotic romance. As a teenager, I can still recall sneaking into my sister’s room to peek at her very worn and tattered copy of the Harrod Experiment. It didn't matter that some pages were ripped or missing, this was hardcore sex and erotica, like I’d never read it before.

There are so many wonderful, erotic authors on the market today who write in this expanding genre. These are stories ripe with passion, love and emotional turmoil, and hot steamy sex as an added bonus. When people ask me what my book is about, I give them my tagline, In a desperate attempt to catch a killer, a special agent hires a notorious felon to come work for the agency. In the midst of the investigation, they succumb to the dark edges of desire, placing both their lives in danger. The next question that typically follows is always, “Wow, it soundssteamy like FiftyShades,” to which I reply, “It’s not a BDSM, but yes, it’serotic.”

What was once considered thebodice ripper novel is now simply a thing of the past. The romance genre has evolved over the years to include the exploration of relationshipsacross boundaries and between same sex partners. Now the book shelves and the e-readers are full of stories about M/F/ M/M/F/F or evenmultiplepartnerrelationships.

Let’s face it, erotic romance sells.Captivated By You, Book 2inSylvia Day’s Crossfire Series was number oneon the USAToday best sellers list last week and Fifty Shadesis still holding steady at number 34 on the list, even after its debut in February of 2013.

Recently, I was interviewed for a local newspaper. After sending out my press release with the caption, Local Erotic Author Debuts her First Novel, to get a buzz going. I never expected the writer to include my comment, “Books like these have opened up discussions such as sex and sexual fantasies that women can now talk about with friends and with their partner. Now the reader can freely explore more explicit levels of sensuality that were once left only to the imagination.” I didn’t   expect her to publish those exactwords. Now the entire town and all of my teenager’s friendsknow I write erotic romance.  What do you think? Is erotic romance still taboo?

I don’t think anyone should be too quick to assume erotic romance is a genre only about sex that features whips and chains, handcuffs and the random fetish to the exclusion of the story itself. These are tales about love and commitment, overcoming inner demonsand self-acceptance. Characters must learn to grow and worktoward their happily ever after, not to mention get tortured along the way. It’s one hell of a ride I encourage readers to take!

And who doesn’t want to fall in love? My dream was to make my readers experience that same headysensation of falling in love when they sit down to read one of my books. Many years back, I read an article about a research study conducted on the brain by a Harvard scientist.Apparently the emotional center of the brain can only sustain that falling in love feeling for up to three years, max. After that, those intense feelings grow and change into something deeper, less flighty, and the brain stops releasing large amounts of dopamine in the process. In some cases, people end up engaging in flirting, internet relationships and extramarital affairs, simply because they’re addicted to the dopamine release.

Can you become addicted to the euphoria? Here's a cure, why not pick up an erotic romance and fallinlove? Maybe you can practice and experiment with what you’veread? There’s nothing that compares to that feeling of bliss, even for a little while.

Two years ago, I attended the Popular Romance Authors Symposium at Princeton University.I was intrigued to hear so many perspectives on the origins of the romance genre from academics, to NY Times bestselling authors, and even a sociologist’sunique perspective. As a society,we’ve come so far in overcoming negative perceptions about self-sufficiency and the equity between the sexes. So let’s continue to evolve and grow! Why not pass the word? Erotic romance is alive and well. Here’s to falling in love!

Determined MBI (Magickal Bureau of investigations)agent Alex Denopoulos will stop at nothing to catch a killer, including recruit notorious felon, Willow McCray to work for the agency. The lines between duty and passion become blurred the more time he spends with the sultry witch. In the midst of the investigation, they succumb to the dark edges of desire, placing both their lives in danger. Alex will risk more than his badge to keep her alive.

Kick-ass witch Willow must use her powers for good if she wants to stay out of Hellios, a mage prison for those who have broken the Wiccan Rede of ‘Harm ye None.’ Willow never expects to fall so hard for Alex, a mortal with a penchant for justice and a deep seated hatred of witches. Though a future together seems impossible, she doesn’t want to let him go. If only she can vanquish the evil surrounding them and give Alex what he wants, her mind and body-before she loses her heart and maybe her very soul in the process.

Excerpt:
Willow took a sip of her margarita and glanced down at Alex’s big hands, tanned and sprinkled with a smattering of dark hair. Funny, she never found a man’s hands sexy. Suddenly her mind filled with images of Alex trailing those big, masculine hands over her body. She wondered if he fit the stereotype. Big hands, big…
“You never did answer my question. Are you considering taking me up on my offer?” The sound of his voice pulled her from a host of fantasies. Willow dug her nails into her palm to get her head back in the game. She shouldn’t be thinking about this man in such a raw, sexual way.
“Why not? My car’s parked in the back.”She probed through the nearby crowd to check if Alex came here with bodyguards. A virtual cacophony of conversations invaded her thoughts, but nothing about protection for Alex. Once she got him alone, she’d take her chances and pray she wouldn’t be outnumbered. “Then let’s get out of here. Unless of course I’ve got some competition.” He   motioned over her shoulder to the incubus whose head now lolled forward over the bar.
“I think you’re flying solo here.” She’d set her trap and let the consequences be damned. She rubbed her finger along the rim of the glass and licked off the salt.
She lifted the glass to her lips, savoring the tangy flavor of margarita mix along with the zing of tequila as it slid down her throat. Headrush. No surprise there, she couldn’t remember the last time she’d slept or eaten in the past forty-eight hours, existing on a combination of raw nerves and pure adrenaline.
“You missed a spot.” He ran his thumb along the seam of her lip. He put it to his mouth and licked. “Mmm, sweet.” Her plan didn’t involve foreplay…but damn he was hot. In another time and another place she would be seriously into this guy. Too bad I might have to kill him.

Guest Post: Saralee Etter

A Gift of Oranges

In Her Very Major Christmas, the Joslin family's neighbor, the Squire, brings oranges to the ladies as a gift. They're excited to receive these treatsand in fact, the ladies believe that the citrus fruit might indicate some romantic interest on the part of their botanically-inclined gentleman friend.

But which lady has caught his interest? Rosalind, now living with her relatives by marriage because she had nowhere else to go after her reckless husband died, believes the Squire is holding a torch for the beautiful but faded Aunt Clementine. However, it will take some effort to get crotchety old Sir Silas to agree!

Why would the Squire give a gift of oranges? Well, they're out of season, of course in the bleak midwinter, exotic tropical fruits were rare. The Squire is something of a botanical enthusiast, so he's built an orangery.

An orangery is a building especially designed for the cultivation of oranges, lemons and other exotic tropical plants. Introduced in the 17th century, orangeries became very popular in the 1800s. An orangery has south-facing glass windows to capture the maximum sunlight and a thick northern wall to protect against wind and cold. In the wintertime, straw could be used for insulation.

In London, an orangery or greenhouse might be so elegantly appointed like Queen Anne's beautiful orangery in Kensington Palace, which today is a lovely restaurant that it could be used for fashionable entertaining away from the Court.

However, by the Regency era, many fashionable residences had orangeries or greenhouses. Orangeries were generally built with large, tall windows facing south to take advantage of the maximum possible light. The north facing walls would be built without windows in a very heavy solid brick, or occasionally with much smaller windows to be able to keep the rooms warm. Straw was the main material used for insulation. Some of the buildings could be intended as symbols of prestige, while others, like the Squire's more modest structure, were places to store tender plants like orange and lemon trees in tubs so that they would survive the harsh winter weather.

Rosalind's main interest in the oranges is what she can make with them! Oranges were made into marmelades, the rinds were candied and used in fruit cakes and Christmas pudding, and the juice used in orange shrub, orgeat (a sweet syrup flavored with orange and almond) and mulled wines.

Do you make a special holiday dish using oranges or lemons? Please share your traditions with us!

Her Very Major Christmas
By Saralee Etter

Excerpt

It was a devilish way to be welcomed into the family.
The dark-haired woman had crept into the library, taken one look at him then screamed and fainted dead away. Hed lunged toward her, hoping to catch her before she crumpled to the floor. He didnt quite reach her in time.
Women had screamed at the sight of his scarred face before but usually not until theyd gotten a better look at him. Guiltily aware that her unconscious condition was his fault, he gathered her up into his arms, meaning to place her on the sofa at the far end of the room. If he moved fast enough he could put her down before his marked visage caused her to faint again. She was a soft, sturdy little thing with a pale face and dark hair that spilled over his arm.
He only had time to carry her halfway to the sofa before he heard a furious pounding of feet on the floorboards outside the library. The door to the library burst open. Through the door came an elderly lady, followed by an old man with a pair of dueling pistols, one in each hand.
Unhand that female! Get back, you fiend! the old man shouted, waving the pistols.
Burdened by the woman in his arms, the major froze as one of the weapons dipped dangerously in his direction.
The gun went off with a roar.
A pistol ball whistled past his head and lodged in the wall near the window. The lady shrieked.
The old man looked astonished, turning the pistol around so he could squint down the smoking barrel. By Jove, I didn't even touch the blasted trigger.

Saralee Etter loves to read, and always knew that writing was the only career for her. What could be better than to think up stories all day long? As a constant day-dreamer, it seemed like the ideal occupation.

Sadly, however, she couldnt see a way to make a living writing the romantic and exciting stories that filled her head. Instead, she wrote other things: Newspaper articles, public relations releases, legal briefs.

Now Saralee is beginning to share the stories that she has been dreaming about for so long. Theyre mostly light-hearted and fun.  As a devoted armchair time-traveler, she finds writing stories set during the English Regency period is the perfect way to enjoy history, romance, and delightful adventures all at once.

New Projects on the Horizon

What's New in Diva Erin Simone's World

I have been one busy gal this year writing, editing, and attending conferences. I'm hoping to have another novel completed soon. I'm currently working on four projects at the moment. It's a lot of work, but for me it doesn't feel like it because I enjoy telling stories. I'm also gearing up for a book release in February and hopefully will have a short novella out in January if I can pull it together. We shall see. I have a couple of new projects in the works as well. A fireman series which I'm super excited about. A military romance project which I'm involved in with several other fabulous authors, and of course my Immortal Embrace Series which has kind of taken a little bit of a backseat but I am hoping to complete Temptation of Night and get it turned in very soon for all you vampire readers.

It's Christmas time and I have to say it is definitely one of my favorite times of the year. I love decorating trees, shopping, hanging with family and friends. I hope all of you are taking time out to enjoy it as well.  If you are looking for a good read and haven't checked out my books before. Please do. Books are the best Christmas presents ever. I love reading too so a book for gift...Yeah, I'm a happy camper. Below is a sample of my first book Whispers of Night in my vampire series which you can buy in e-book or print at Amazon, Barnes & Noble or Ellora's Cave Publishing.

Guest Post: Valkyrie Vampire Ball by Cornelia Amiri

Valkyrie Vampire Ball

Do you like vampires? What about fey? Are you intrigued by Scottish lore? Do you appreciate a strong, handsome man in a kilt? If you said yes to any or all of the above, step underhill to the dwelling place of the baobhan sith. They are waiting for you. They’ve saved you a dance.
Who or what are the baobhan sith, (bah vawn shee) you ask? They are vampiric fey who roam the Scottish highlands. All of them are women, no men. They are voluptuous and enticing beauties always garbed in green dresses. Also, they have talons, no fangs. Like other vampires, they drink human blood and they fry in the sunlight. Many call them dancing vampires as they look for young men coming from the pub at night. The baobhan sith dance with them until the men are exhausted then they transform their nails to talons. The dancing grows rough as the baobhan sith rake their nails across their dance partner’s back. They claw at the men’s skin, draining their blood, so they can drink it.

My Dancing Vampire series is a modern take on the baobhan sith, the tales of seven baobhan sith sisters. They are on the hunt for men and in each book that quest turns to romance. Valkyrie Vampire Ball, the 5th novella in my Dancing Vampire series comes out November 28th.  It is available for preorder now at Ellora’s Cave. http://www.ellorascave.com/series/dancing-vampires-1.html
So Vampire Valkyrei Ball makes 5 books so far:  Dance of the Vampires, Vampire Highland Fling, Ever So Bonnie A Vampire, One Dance With A Vampire, and Valkyrie Vampire Ball.  I call them – Five Shades Of Fey.

Valkyrie Vampire Ball [Ebook]

ISBN - 9781419942785

Blurb:
The baobhan sith—vampiric fey—Mordak and her sisters search the highlands for men to dance with and drink from. The moment Mordak spots Tor, she burns for his touch and yearns for the taste of his lips in a lingering kiss. Before she can sway her hips in a seductive dance to enchant Tor, three Valkyrie land in front of him. Mordak is not about to let the Norse blondes fly off with the man she chose.
Tor never expected to run into six gorgeous women on his way to the pub. It’s the redhead, Mordak, who catches his eye. When she fights the Valkyrie and saves his life, he knows she’s the woman for him. But Mordak lives in the fey realm where he can’t go and she promised her sisters she’d never fall in love with a human. Can he escape the Valkyrie who want to slay him and win Mordak’s love even though he’s only human?

Anna's Romanticon Highlights!

Jennifer, Erin, and Cait all shared their Romanticon adventures and now it's my turn!!

Actually, we all had about the same adventures because we spent a lot of time together, and the hotel wasn't that big :)

Yes, conference attendance was smaller than last year, but the fun was ten-times the size. I loved getting to know my fellow authors and, even better, our readers in an environment where it was really all about the books and how they make us feel.

It really is amazing to see a group of women talking about how books influence their lives. How they give them an opportunity to live experiences they might not have the chance to. To dream about scenarios they didn't know were possible. That is why I write, and I'm so glad I didn't miss out on spending time with these amazing women.

If you've been following me on Facebook, you've seen that I am having lots of fun with video. Here are a few of my favorite pics as well as a montage of my Romanticon experience,

Enjoy!

Highlights of Romanticon 2014

Last week me, Diva Jennifer Kacey, Diva Cait Miller and Diva Anna Alexander attended Romanticon 2014.  It was a smaller conference than years past but that didn't take away from the fun us ladies had.  We met readers, did several workshops, danced are asses off, drank, and were entertained by the handsome Ellora's Cave men. If you've never gone to Romanticon, I encourage you to go.  I've done several conference over the last few years and this one by far is the most fun.  Here are some pictures from this years conference. Enjoy lovelies....

Show Us Your "O" Face...Jenn and I had so much fun with the fans. There were lots of giggles and some of the women did rather well. We were impressed. LOL

A group of us out to dinner on the first night before the author meet and greet.

I was grinning wide cozying up between these handsome guys.

Diva Anna Alexander, Jenn Kacey, Erin Simone and Cait Miller taking pictures with the men of Ellora's Cave.  Yeah, it's a tough job being an author but we don't mind. Hee, hee, hee, hee....

One of the Naughty Panels I participated in....

And I danced, and danced, and danced my ass off....

There were also awards given to a few of my pals that were well-deserved. Congrats Diva Anna Alexander, Jennifer Kacey, Cait Miller, and also my dear friend Laurann Dohner....

Bingo Night with the Cavemen. If you win they give you a lap dance. I won twice. Ha!!! No video. What happens at Romanticon stays at Romanticon. LOL

The Book Fair Romanticon was a very happy day for me. I really enjoyed meeting with the fans and it's such a rush to hold something you've created in your hands. Yup, I'm a proud mama.

And the performances by the guys were amazing.  But like all good things, it went by quickly. We left with a lot of good memories and I'm excited for what my publisher has planned for next year.

Hope you enjoyed.
