The top four vote-getters make it to the finals where a winner will be selected at the Passport event. So check out the roster and vote for your favorite. Maybe you'll see a book that catches your eye and you'll find a new favorite read too.

Moving Day

Howdy pals and gals!
It’s September and back to school. The summer zipped by and I was busy. The latest book in the Evolutioneers Series came out in July (yay!) but the biggest change was Captain Awesome moved in.
The timing also coincided with my tenth year of being in my little condo, so I took the opportunity to purge, purge, purge. I usually sort through the house at least once a year, but this time I underwent a massive reorganizing. Closets, kitchen, the junk drawers (I KNOW!!) everything was sorted and reorganized. I almost broke down when I emptied the laundry room to almost nothing and stared at the mass of stuff in the hallway, but I persevered. Five trips to St. Vincent’s, a run to the dump and a few weeks later, there was room for the Captain to move in.
As one does while purging, I found a few surprises. Buried in my closet was a box all taped up. Written in bold black print were the words “Bad Memories.” I have no idea what’s in the box. I’m going to guess it might be from my divorce. Something I don’t necessarily want to see again, hence the tape, but perhaps important enough to keep in case I need it in an emergency???? No. I didn’t open it. I didn’t throw it out either. Maybe one day I will see inside. Perhaps I’ll toss it. For now it will sit tight in storage. Deep, deep, deep in storage.
There was also my moment with the rocking chair. It’s sixteen years old. Bought while pregnant with my first child. It takes up space in the living for ten years and no one really sits in it unless chair space is tight. There’s nothing wrong with it, just worn and a little squeaky. So before I sent it off for donation, I sat in the chair one last time.
Holy crap. The memories! I rocked my babies in that chair. Sat with them on my lap and read books and sang them to sleep while in that chair. Of course, the tears hit me hard. Then I started laughing because I was crying, and cried because I was laughing.
Captain Awesome watched me with a bemused expression on his face. “I’m sorry I’m making you change so much to have me move in,” he said. I assured him that while he was the catalyst of the purge, he wasn’t making me do anything I didn’t want. Please. As if he could make me do anything. *snort
Yes, I was sad about what losing the chair was representing; change, kids growing up, time moving on, but the new things were exciting. We were starting a new chapter in our lives. And once he was all moved in, the house looks and feels as if he’s been there forever.
So as a new school year begins, don’t be afraid to let go of things from the past. Embrace the new. Revel in the memories and have fun making new ones.
Until next time, y’all!

Avengers- Infinity Wars Part 1- Holy Sh!t

Howdy all!

It's May 4th, and based on box office receipts and social media posts, most of the world has seen the latest Avengers movie. You know I'm going to have an opinion. But don't fret if you haven't checked out this blockbuster yet. No spoilers here. Mostly. :)

Infinity Wars picks up right as Thor: Ragnarok ends. Right as it ended. It's been about two years since Captain America: Civil War and Black Panther would have taken place at the same time as Ragnarok. Got it?

Then the chaos ensued. But why rehash it here, when you can hear my thoughts taken right after experiencing the epic live.

If I had been a little more relaxed, I would have been a bit more ready to shout my "oh nos!" and "Wakanda Forever!" but I kept those inside and watched, wide-eyed as the action unfolded.

Now I know, I know. Some people have serious issues with this movie. And I know there are plot holes. But I was happy with how the events unfolded. For now. We'll have to wait to see how Captain Marvel and Infinity Wars part two shakes out. I have a suspicion I'm going to see some hankies for that one.

Until next time y'all!
And if you need a super hero story with a happily ever after, check out Genesis or Hero Revealed.

Anna Alexander does the Emerald City Comic Con

Howdy gals and pals!

I missed you all last month, but I was getting my super hero on at the Emerald City Comic Con. This year was a blast! Not only did I have my booth next door to the fabulous fellas at Stranger Comics

Heather Reasby was the mastermind
behind the panel.

but I also was on a panel discussing translating super hero stories from comics into prose.

And I did some cosplay and totally rocked Gamorra. (Captain Awesome's words)

The allure of the mystery box was strong. Captain Awesome not resist. And on top of all of that, I had a new book come out!Genesis is the first of a new super hero series that I am so excited to share with you. A little urban fantasy, a little X-men, this group of crime fighters are a start of an evolution.Genesis- Book one of the Evolutioneers
People suck, at least according to reclusive inventor Max Madden—except for his friend and mentor, Anthony. But now Anthony is dead after uncovering evidence that an avaricious financier caused the current economic crisis and is out for world domination, a man Max knows has the money, resources, and charm to succeed—his own father. Now Max is out for vengeance and he doesn’t need a distraction like Crystal Evans tagging along. The provocative psychic may have soft lips, curves like a Ferrari, and a scent like vanilla sugar, but she also has a thirst for redemption that will never be quenched. Max can’t help but admire her tenacity, and when she leads him to others who also have superhuman powers, he agrees to lead this team of crime-fighting supers if they all agree that he will be the one to take his father down.

But fate and circumstance has a way of bitch-slapping a man to awareness, and emotional hungers Max once detested have become what he now craves. When Crystal becomes the key to Madden Sr.’s downfall, Max must choose: Can he send the woman he’s come to love on the mission, a mission during which she has seen her death in a vision, or have his revenge?

Happy Spring Everyone!

Until next time!

Consent- 2018

Consent. A year ago I posted a blog about consent and look where we are now. (insert sigh and eyeroll)

There are many, many, many different directions the topic of consent can take and should take. These are important discussions we as a society need to have to better communicate with our fellow human beings. And we need more of these discussions. Now, I am not going to tackle all of them here, but I am going to address one topic that I saw recently on Twitter because it ties directly into my world.

There was a Twitter user who made a comment about how discussing one’s sexual preferences during courtship made sex boring and passionless. I so wish I could find that tweet to share here. But to this man I say, “YOU’RE DOING IT WRONG!”

If you cannot discuss your wants and desires with a potential partner, you are not ready to have sex. Not only is it establishing an open line of communication, but you are also establishing consent. Not to mention engaging in one of the best parts of sex- foreplay.

Of course, there is a right and wrong way to begin that line of dialogue. Please, do not approach a person you have just become acquainted with and vomit out a sentence resembling “So, do you wanna suck my dick?” or something of the like. That is not effective or constructive communication.

We should take a cue from the BDSM community where it’s all about open communication and consent. While under their care, a good Dom will see not only to your physical needs, but emotional ones too. *Side note- If you meet someone who claims to be in the lifestyle and doesn’t ask you about your preferences, they are a fraud and you run away as quick as you can.

In the early days of my relationship with my boyfriend, one of the first things we did was go down a list of sexual preferences and communication styles to see if we were compatible. Let me tell you, that was not a boring conversation. I had a handsome man willing to listen to what I had to say and sharing all of the ways he wanted to make me scream- uh, happy. Make me happy. ;) Come on. How is that a bad thing?

That night reminded me of a scene from my book Only at The Cavern. The hero, police captain Marco DeWinter, wanted to enter into a D/s relationship with the sexy emergency room doctor he had just discovered was a dominatrix. At first she does not want to mix anyone and anything from her personal life with her BDSM life, but she decides to give it a try and sends him an invitation to join her. The invitation blows his mind along with the lengthy questionnaire attached asking him about his preferences. When the two meet at an elegant restaurant to discuss the deal, more sparks fly.

Excerpt-

She sat back, straightened her shoulders and lifted her chin. Bam. Mistress Jasmina had returned. “Did you bring the contract with you?”

“I did.” He withdrew the tri-folded pages from his inside jacket pocket and set them before her.

On the surface, Jasmine was like a serene lake. Quiet, tranquil, nary a ripple disturbing the placid scene. But as he sipped his beer and watched as she read over the pages, he saw the myriad emotions cross her features that were so slight, only his knowledge of micro-expressions caught the movements.

Her eyes narrowed ever so slightly in concentration. When she was pleased, she tilted her head to the left in a tiny nod. The briefest flicker of a brow, a tick near the corner of her mouth when she was amused, all her thoughts played out across her beautiful face.

Then she came to the page of the long list of acts he was willing to engage in. He sat up in his seat as she ran her finger down each checked box. Occasionally she would glance his way with a calculating eye, and he felt sweat began to gather on his upper lip. What had she read that made her look at him as if she already imagined him at her mercy?

She tapped at the paper. “You have no desire at all in a homoerotic encounter?”

At the mention of the word, his ass clenched tight and his heart skipped a beat. “Nope. Not in the slightest. Sorry, Doc.”

A grin tugged at her lips and she sighed. “Pity.”

There were a lot of things he marked as undecided, but touching another dude in that way? Or have another dude touch him? Uh-uh. Not going there.

“Well, there is certainly enough here for me to work with.” She set the contract down and skimmed her hands down her side. “Did you have any questions for me?”

“Yeah, what exactly is expected of me? I know in the contract we have a designated meeting time, but will I be at your beck and call?”

“Not at all. What I expect from you is your respect and courtesy. The moment you walk through The Cavern’s door, your time belongs to me. I understand that your work schedule is unpredictable, as is mine, but when we’re together, nothing else exists. When you are out and about your day, you are welcome to do as you wish. If a work situation arises, you will give me as much notice as possible. On occasion I may send you an instruction, but don’t fret. I will never ask you to do anything that may cause an embarrassing situation.”

“So no orders for me to wear a pink g-string under my work clothes?”

The husky notes of her laughter made his abs clench and his hands flinch, eager to gather her close to feel the vibrations against his skin.

“What you wear to work is entirely up to you.”

“That’s a relief.” He slid the chalice back and forth on the tabletop and hoped he sounded nonchalant as he asked, “And we’re to refrain from intimate relationships outside the, uh, dungeon, right?”

The question was more to confirm her stance than his. Between pining for Brett and the Smithwick case, a girlfriend never fit into his life, and he had grown tired of one-night stands years ago. And selfish as it might seem, considering she wasn’t his girlfriend, he wanted Jasmine all to himself.

She chuckled again. “I have yet to meet a woman who allowed her significant other to visit a dominatrix. Although I guess there might be one or two in existence. So, yes. I will insist that we remain exclusive. I like to devote all of my attention to one man. However, I may bring in another on occasion to assist with a scene, for the most part it will be just you and I.”

A hundred different scenarios of who those people might be and how they were going to assist flashed through his mind, one dirtier then the next, and he felt the buzz of anticipation raise the fine hairs on his neck and arms.

“Where do I sign?” he asked in a voice far raspier than he intended.

Respect. That is the key. Being open to another’s thoughts and being open with yours. Respect the person enough to listen. Respectfully say no if not interested. And most important, respectfully accept that no if given.

The first person you must demand respect from is you. Respect yourself and be honest with what you want. Take charge of your passions and desires and demand to be heard if respect is not given. Easier said than done. I know. Believe me, I know. But you have to start somewhere, and being honest with yourself is step one.

Until next time y'all!

Something new from Anna Alexander- Genesis

Okay, y'all. It's been a long time coming. A really, really, really, long time coming, but it's almost here. I have a new series coming out!

The Evolutioneers have been my babies that I've nurtured for years. Years! When I had made the decision to become a serious author, I looked at the market and noticed a lack of traditional superheroes. Men and women who wanted to save mankind but could not do so as themselves and had to take on a secret identity to carry out their mission. The choices they made carried so many repercussions, and I wanted to explore their stories and give them their happily ever afters.

So why have I been sitting on them for so long? Well, I sold the Heroes of Saturn and have been busy with the other series. Simple as that. I'm so happy that now is their time and I get to share them with you.

What can you expect from this new series? Same as my others. A cast of characters, slightly nerdy but smoldering heroes, women who take charge of their destiny, a lot of laughs, and a few tears.

Is there sex? Oh yeah. But not like the Heroes of Saturn. The Evolutioneers is hot, but more like the more recent books in the Sprawling A series.

If you been looking for books that are a mix of paranormal, urban fantasy, and steamy contemporary, The Evolutioneers are what you need.

Genesis: Book One releases February 20th, just in time for the Emerald City Comic Con. But the preorder is available now. I hope you all enjoy this new world!

Now Max is out for vengeance and he doesn't need a distraction like Crystal Evans tagging along.

The provocative psychic may have soft lips, curves like a Ferrari, and a scent like vanilla sugar, but she also has a thirst for redemption that will never be quenched. Max can't help but admire her tenacity, and when she leads him to others who also have superhuman powers, he agrees to lead this team of crime-fighting supers if they all agree that he will be the one to take his father down.

Happiness is...

It snowed in Seattle. Yes, folks, winter is upon us.

When it’s cold and dark and the fate of the world seems to be in jeopardy every day, it’s difficult to stay positive. But the other day when I was listening to the Broadway satellite channel (one of my favs) the song “Happiness is…” came on from the show You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown. The song has the Peanuts gang singing a list of things that make them happy, and in times such as these, I think it’s good to stop and remind ourselves about the simple joys in life.

So instead of things I am grateful for, here is my list of my happy thoughts. I call it: Happiness is… Fall Edition. Here goes.

My children’s laughter.

Warm apple cider on a cold day.

Making my boyfriend laugh.

Snuggling. I LOVE snuggling.

Watching Chris Evans on screen.

Watch all the Chrises on screen.

Brownies.

Staying toasty warm in my big fluffy bathrobe.

Binge watching HGTV.

Pumpkin sheet cake with cream cheese icing.

Drinks with friends.

Sleeping in snuggled under thirty blankets.

Pomegranates.
Finishing a project you thought you'd never complete.

Irish coffee and snuggling.
Seriously, I should become a professional snuggler.

Yeah. That's a good start.
Until next time, y'all. And I'd love to see your list!

Party time and you're invited!

Happy October!

Nothing makes me happier than being surrounded by people who are immersed in their joy. And man, do we need joy right now. Which is why I love putting together parties and next weekend I am hosting a monster of a party.

So I am inviting you to the Passport to Romance reader appreciation event. The "booktail" party of the year is where readers and authors can come together and celebrate the romance genre.

What makes the Passport to Romance so awesome? First off, it's free. Yep. Admission is free! Also this is NOT a book fair. So anything the authors have to promote their books is given away. Books, pens, bags, some authors even have wine glasses!

And who are these fabulous authors you can chat with? Check it out-

Darynda Jones
Debra Elise JC Hay
Sarah MacLean Amanda Forester Joanne Jaytanie
Rebecca Zanetti Cheri Champagne Linda Hope Lee

I know!

What else makes this party awesome? These guys!

I know!

So what else could possibly make the event even better?

Raffle baskets. That's right. You do want to bring some money for raffle tickets. They are $1 each or 12 for $10. We have baskets from Dena Garson, Christy Jefferies, Karen Rose, and lots of other surprises. And a portion of the proceeds go to the Domestic Women's Abuse Network. These are an amazing group of people who've helped women and children escape horrible situations and find a new path. We are honored to work with them.

So when and where is this magnificent event taking place?

October 14th from 6pm-8pm at the Bellevue Westin in Bellevue, Washington.

And if you can't join us in person, join us in spirit and online by following me on Facebook. I'll be live streaming some of the event.

Books, writers, pretty men, raffle baskets? My heart is happy already.

Until next time, y'all!
