Summertime is Finally Here!
I'm not going to lie, this spring was rough. I live in Texas. This wasn't a happenstance. I moved here intentionally. And, as such, I have certain expectations when it comes to weather. This spring fell short on all of them. Yes, we needed the rain so I'm not complaining-technically. But there were times I felt like I was living in Seattle over the last couple of months? Where was my sunshine? Where did the warmth go? I'm happy to report that our weather has finally sorted itself out and we have finally entered summer! In celebration, I'm doing my top five things I love about summer.
5. Swimming- I've always loved to swim. Something about how the world disappears when I put my head under the water. All my worries and the chaos of life becomes muffled.
4. Being outside- I have noticed that I spend more time outside year round since we've moved but there's not time of the year that I'm outdoors than in summer. There's so much to do outside during the summer. Movies in the park, hikes on the greenbelts, or even ice cream on the porch there's just more opportunities to be in the fresh air and sun.
3. Days last longer- I like the night. Don't get me wrong, there's something magical about a starlit sky with a moon hanging over me. But it never seems like I have enough hours during the day to get stuff done. I realize there aren't extra hours during the summer but having it light out for a couple more hours makes it feel like I get extra time.
2. Fresh veggies and fruits- I'm not exactly a health food nut. I think I might have mentioned my love of bacon cheeseburgers and queso a time or two. But I also love strawberries, blueberries, grapes, peppers, onions, mushrooms, tomatoes... I've yet to meet a fruit or veggie I don't love, actually. And they suddenly become affordable and available in quantity and verity this time of year. Just in time to grill them up. Seriously, have you tried grilled pineapple? OMG!
1. Spending more time with my kiddos- Sure, they'll be driving me crazy by the time August rolls around. And 'going back to school' will probably make my favorite things about fall list. But, for now, I'm so glad I get some extra time to spend with my kiddos. I know they probably wish I'd just leave them alone and let them play their video games but I really look forward to the bike rides, the swimming sessions at the pool, and even the time I force them to keep up on their academic skills. I read every book they do during the summer just so we can talk about them.
There are many other things I love about the summer. Balmy nights, frozen drinks, ice cream sundaes, and going on vacation. What are your favorite things that come with the season?

Vacation By The Gulf
My family isn’t really a ‘vacation’ family. With my
conferences and my husband’s conferences and my family being over a thousand
miles away, most of the time when we travel it’s work or family related. Plus,
my husband tends to not take time off (seriously, even after our vacation he
still has three weeks worth of paid vacation available). But last spring my
father in-law told us he wanted to go see the sea.
He’s getting up there in age and, even though we only live
four hours from the gulf, he isn’t able to drive long distances. So we agreed
to our first honest to goodness vacation in probably fifteen years. As the
months went by, I started having second thoughts. It was going to be expensive.
We were going to have to find someone to care for our dogs. Our boys were going
to have to miss some school. I’m in the middle of planning an event for our
neighborhood and in the middle of edits for two books. But we’d promised to
take my in-laws to the sea and I believe firmly in keeping promises.
So…we got back from the gulf Tuesday afternoon. We were
there for four nights. We rented a condo
in Port Aransas. And? It was
expensive, I worried about our dogs, the boys are busy catching up at school, and I’m
still crazy busy with the event (happens next Saturday) and edits. But it was
worth it. It’d been so long since we’d gotten away without to just relax for a
bit that I’d actually forgotten how wonderful and fun it can be.
We played with our kids in the surf every day we were there. We laughed more than I
thought possible. We discovered that if there are jellyfish on the beach, don’t
get into the water. A little late but no one was stung so still a success. My kids ate calamari for the first time (and they loved it!). We saw dolphins in the marina. But,
most importantly, we remembered what it was like to actually slow down and just
live. We stopped and smelled the salt water in the air. And we’ve already
started planning our next trip. Not sure if it’ll be to the gulf, but we’ve
learned that having fun is every bit as important as working.

she’s overwhelmed by her all-consuming attraction to him.
Dean can’t get the clumsy
brunette from the airport out of his mind. The way her chocolate eyes had
devoured him left him yearning for more, so when he runs into her on the
island, he makes the most of the opportunity.
When a dizzying heat engulfs
them both, they realize Lana’s short vacation isn’t enough time to tame their
burning desires.
Belize Nights Quickie Excerpt
His expression instantly
turned seductive. An electric current buzzed between them, sizzling the air,
making her flush. She gulped her beer hoping the cool liquid would ease the
flame burning her insides.
“Ya know,” Dean leaned toward
her, his eyes boring into hers, “the real reason I hesitated when you asked me
in?”
Her throat constricted at the
heat in his eyes. “Not because of my klutziness?”
He slowly shook his head. “It
was because I didn’t know if I could resist the urge I’ve had since you fell
into my lap on the plane.”
He looked so serious, voice
so low and husky. Her stomach quivered. “What urge?” she asked, breathless.
“To kiss your pretty lips.”
Oh god, she wanted him.
Irresponsible or not, she wanted him baaad. She’d wanted his mouth on her since
first laying eyes on him. “Then don’t resist.” Her bold words surprised her,
but she wouldn’t take them back. Couldn’t take them back. If he didn’t kiss her
soon, she swore she’d die.
