Cue Rod Stewart's, "If You Think I'm Sexy..." by Ripley Proserpina

What paranormal creatures are decidedly unsexy? If you’d asked me in high school if vampires were sexy, I’d say, “Yes, definitely.”

But werewolves? It’d depend. Did they turn into wolves fully? Or were they half-man, half-beast and looked like Michael Jackson in Thriller?

As I’ve read more science fiction romance and paranormal romance, I've loved the way writers have made differences more mainstream. They’ve turned what was once, “Ew, gross,” into, “Nice.”

Mermen, gargoyles, hedgehog shifters, crow shifters, shark shifters, cyborgs, genetically spliced humanoids, aliens… they all have potential to be part of the romance writer’s cast of characters. That’s the great thing about fiction, there’s something, I mean, someone for everyone.

Here are some of my favorite romances with unexpected heroes and heroines.

Mer-people:
Tiffany Roberts: Heart of the Deep

Genetically altered humans:
Alicia Treat: Mutt
Laurann Dohner: Valiant

Aliens:
Isabel Wroth: Sarazen's Saga
Amanda Milo: Won by the Alien
Ruby Dixon: Ice Planet Barbarians

Werewolves and Vampires:
Rebecca Royce: Warrior World

Gargoyles:
EA Price: When a Gargoyle Falls

Witches:
Rebecca Royce: Wards and Wands
Heather R. Blair: Sixpence and Whiskey (with a bonus of mythological creatures).

Her Creed by Jennifer Kacey

Non-Con anyone??!?!? :P

Fighters take the ultimate prize for victory…

Underage KC snuck into the underground fight club called The Cage. But it was no ordinary fight club. The participants didn’t battle for titles or a useless belt to collect dust. The men and women brawled for only one thing. To be the victor and take the spoils of war they’d earned with their blood, sweat and tears. Not for money or jewels. They fought for the right to take the loser in any way—and any hole—of their choosing.

But KC was discovered by one of the bouncers and taken to a room with no way out. To the office of the owner, Creed, who held more than just her fate in his hands…

He’d seen hundreds of warriors find their way to his door with visions of grandeur and conquest. But it took a girl not yet a woman to remind him why he worked so tirelessly day in and day out. Her eyes. They would haunt him long after he threw her out of his arena and told her never to return.

Years later, they meet again, and KC is ready to take her place amongst his fighters. Creed wants nothing to do with the woman she’s become, but their fate has an interesting way of setting things right.

Consent has never seen this kind of fight club…

 Excerpt -

“Oh. That makes sense.” She chewed on the inside of her cheek. “And there’s a big fan base for that?”
She took it all in stride and, of course, had more questions. “We’ve had quite a few fans ask about it along with several of our fighters bringing friends in who wanted to apply for a position. We don’t wait for trends. We create them.”
“Fascinating.” Whispering the word, she seemed to say it for herself alone.
“What is?”
“That you’d be okay with it. That the owners would.”
“Explain.”
She shrugged and found a very interesting patch of ground to stare at. “I’ve watched you the other times I’ve snuck inside. How you’ve interacted with the other fighters. The employees in the stands. You’re…” Pausing, she closed her eyes, blinked up at him, and then stared at the ground again. “Harsh, I guess. I certainly didn’t expect you to be tolerant of other people’s gender issues. In person, you’re not at all what I expected.” She shrugged, showing a lot more of her age, which made it much easier for him to scowl at her.
Trying to get the chitchat back on track, he sneered a bit. And it had nothing to do with the fact her opinion of him squeezed his heart. Fuck that. He had no time for little girls or little girl dreams. “If they can make me money then I’m all for it. We’ve seen interest from several directions, and I sure as hell know how to turn a profit when it comes to the oldest profession on record.”
“Prostitution? Really? That’s what you’re going to equate fighting and taking in The Cage to?”
He shrugged. “People in their seats are paying to see people fuck someone else.”
“If the fighters were fucking the people in the seats after they paid to sit there, then it would be considered prostitution.”
“A rose by any other name would smell as sweet…”
Her head tilted to the side as she studied him. “Shakespeare? Romeo and Juliet? Really? Pretty sure he didn’t know that reference would ever come full circle. Especially not in an establishment such as this.”
Bowing to her, he was able to hide his grin at her knowledge of literature. She may not have had it easy, but she sure as hell wasn’t some stupid ditz.
“How long have you worked here?” she asked as he stood to his full height once more.
“I own here.”
Her breath caught in her throat. “You’re the owner of Gladi-Rapers? Holy shit. No wonder I couldn’t figure out who the owner was. Hiding in plain sight. Brilliant.”
Hearing her say the name shouldn’t have made his dick hard. He shook his head trying to clear it.
“So you’re not?” she asked with a whole lotta confused teenager attitude thrown in.
Operative word being teenager. “Teen” plus “ager” equaled jail time, and he really needed to remember that. “I am the owner, but we’re not discussing anything else. Because you’re too young, and you’re leaving.”
“But I have so many more questions.”
“Too bad.”
Disappointment bled from her, and he almost caved. Almost. Shit. Last thing he needed to do was fall for some underage girl with pretty green eyes.
Fuck.
He knew what color her eyes were.
Kicking her out became the only thing he could focus on.
It wasn’t the only thing he wanted to focus on. Not even close. But the rest of what he wanted wasn’t meant to be. “You need to go back to school.”
“It’s complicated.”
“Then uncomplicate it.”
“I have to work to eat. There are only so many hours in the day.”
“Then take the time you spend sneaking in here where you have no business being and go back to school.” She opened her mouth, but he talked right over her. “We’re sealing the windows shut that you’ve been getting in through, and an alarm and camera company will be here tomorrow. So don’t even think about trying to sneak in again. This is your one free pass. If I see you again, I will press charges with implications that will haunt you for the rest of your life.”
Silence, but only for a second. “Wait. You aren’t calling the cops on me? Trying to reach my parents, which I don’t have by the way? Or my fosters? Or the CPS chick sent to save me?”
His heart twisted in his chest, making him want to reach for her. Instead, he walked to his office door and laid his hand on a pad beside it. The lock on the door popped open, and he held it wide, silently waiting for her to join him.
One huffed breath and a grumble or two later, she stood behind him.
He ushered her out, shut the door, and to keep from reaching for her again, he crossed his arms over his chest as they walked. “No, I’m not calling anyone. As long as I have your word you won’t be back, I’m going to act as if I’ve never seen you before.”
“Wouldn’t be the first time,” she whispered as they walked down the hall.
Sadness destroyed her smile, and he hated seeing it. Talk about a distraction he didn’t fucking need.
The closer they got to the stadium, the louder the voices and chants echoed off the walls beside them.
They got to a fork in the building. She tried to go left toward an open archway, but he grabbed her elbow. He couldn’t let her go any farther, but he couldn’t drag her away either. He knew how the ring called to him, and if the look on her face was any indication, it called to her as well.
Creed caught only a glimpse of the fighters on the mat. His fighter had the other pinned beneath him. The ref lay on his stomach, waiting with a whistle between his lips. Creed’s fighter almost choked out his opponent, the other man tapping out at the last minute. The ref blew the whistle, signaling the end of the match. His fighter let go, jumping to his feet.
Another win for his Gladi-Rapers.
Kempest yelled, the veins in his neck standing out as he gave the crowd exactly what they’d paid for. Ripping his clothes from his body, he held a condom between his teeth and fisted his adrenaline-filled cock. The trainers of Brutus woke him and checked his vitals.
Brutus stood, admitting defeat as he began to undress with jerky movements.
Kempest would have another fight on his hands to get Brutus pinned so he could fuck him. Creed knew how much Kempest relished that final round. How it fed something inside the man who was rolling the condom down his thick erection as the men squared off again.
CK’s head tilted toward the stadium as he moved her down the hallway toward the exit.
He’d won. Creed had. As her head finally turned and faced the front, he knew he’d won. They moved toward the empty hall. Toward the doors coming closer and closer. He’d beat her. But at what cost?
Some of the light dimmed in her eyes, which pissed him off. Then he got pissed because it pissed him off.
He pushed the door open and held it for her as she slipped past.
Her eyes narrowed at him, and he could see her resolve settling around her like armor.
She had a fighter’s soul. He’d seen it before.
She opened her mouth to say something, but he shut the door in her face.
Sending a prayer to the heavens that he never saw her again seemed as if it were more than a tiny bit of a lie.
Her green eyes and her astute questions were two things he couldn’t afford to get lost in. She was one complication his life didn’t need.
That his heart ached as he walked back to the stadium...?
Creed shook his head, then made himself forget her.
Still, he wondered when he would see her again.

What's New?

Good Morning everyone! I hope you're having a great week, Michele and I are. In the last few weeks things have gone through a major change around here for us. We have decided to concentrate on one project. (I had a feeling at some point in my career this would happen.)

From here on out for a bit, we will be working within our Window Rock World. What does that mean for you? Well, first up is the re-release of Kalkin - Apache County Shifters in June. Also in June the release of Midnight, which you can pre-order here! Midnight is the start of our Psychic Retrieval Agency! It also part of the Bad Alpha Dads series as well. You can find out more about the books here and here!

In September, Caden will be released, which means a couple of books have been pushed back. I am still shooting for an August release for my TSU - After Dark series. Due to Kindle World closing everything has been a little up in the world. Also, due to all of the shifting around Utah (Silence Isn't Golden) and Terri (One Night with a Wolf will be delayed. But, Michele and I plan to start on Royce (Entrapped) and a short Christmas tale for Window Rock to compensate for these lapses.

I can't even begin to tell you how much we have planned. I know I put out a ton of covers and trust me all the books are still coming. I swear it, but for now we kind of have to slowly reintroduce books and settle into our new normal.

Until next time!

Celia's #Summer #Beachreads

JASMINE MOON BOOK COVER

   Hi Everyone!

Well, summer is upon us, can you believe it?

I'm definitely ready for some rest and relaxation,
preferably under a shady umbrella on the beach,
with a stack of books and a cooler of tasty beverages!

For thirst-quenching beverages, I'm really into Project Juice these days
especially when I'm too lazy to make my own blended drinks, lol.
Tasty and healthy!

As for books... read on... :-)

SUMMER BEACH READS

Here are my series reading recs for your summer reading pleasure...

Diamond Moon Book cover

ROMANCE SNIPPET

My three "Moon" novellas for the Black Hills Wolves series feature the Luparell family. Each story stars one of the Luparell siblings. Here we have Dominant wolf Ross Luparell in a romantic moment with his fated wolf mate, Darci. (from DIAMOND MOON).

Under A Mating Moon Book cover ...he peppered her skin with slow, gentle kisses. He needed to take this slow. Mustn’t scare his mate.

When she reached out and stroked his hair, she made him the happiest man in all of Los Lobos.

Her breath left her in a sexy rush. “It’s as silky as it looks.” She bit her lip, her brow furrowing as if she hadn’t meant to say those words out loud.

He smiled. “Play away, Moonbeam.”

A shudder rolled through her. [...]

He burst to his feet. “Don’t move, Moonbeam.”

He strode around the table. She watched him come, hands clutched against her breasts, eyes wide, cheeks flushed a pretty pink.

He shifted her chair so she faced him then knelt before her. His gaze met hers at this level, an intimacy he fucking loved. He gripped her wrists and moved her unresisting hands to rest on his shoulders.

Her fingers curled, nails scraping his skin through his T-shirt, sending jolts of lust to his groin. “Why do you call me that?”

He gripped her knees and inched them apart, pleased when she didn’t object. She felt it, too, he was sure of it, the need for closeness created by the call of their Wolf-mate bond.

“Call you what?”

She slid her hands to his biceps. “Moonbeam.”

He pressed in close, closer. “Your skin. Pale as moonlight.” He glided his hands along her outer thighs, over her hips, to circle her waist.

“Oh.” She let out a delightful shudder and stared at him, her parted lips tempting him closer.

A growl escaped his throat. He closed the distance and kissed her.

Have a great June, Dear Readers, and see you back here on June 30th!

xo,
Celia

BEDDING THE HIGHLANDER

To rid himself of her, and to honor a truce set by the Duke of Glencoe, her father agrees to wed her to his clan’s mortal enemy, Ben Rannoch. READ A SCORCHING EXCERPT!
It was a glorious ride. Kate wanted to throw out her arms, turn her face to the downpour, and revel in the moment. Racing across the lea with Kirk, warm and strong behind her, was magnificent.
She’d always loved storms and the savage beauty of nature. It made her feel one with the world. Alive. But there had never been a more exhilarating tempest than this.
She could taste the acrid scent of lightning on her tongue, feel the crackle of its energy in her hair. Danger stalked them, and it excited her.
But something else did too.
An enormous, muscled man, held her tightly, breathing against her neck in harsh pants. The movement of their bodies against each other created a friction as they rode in manic union. The damp heat of the plaid conjoined them and an earthy scent rose between them.
Ah, it was splendid.
It was nearly a disappointment when it ended, when he slowed and guided the horse to an outcropping protruding from the rocky tor.
And then, he slid from the horse, leaving her alone and suddenly cold. When she frowned at him as he reached up for her, he stilled. “Are you all right, lassie?”
“Aye,” she said, setting her hands on his broad shoulders and allowing him to ease her down. Lord, he was large. So hard and strong. So…tantalizing with his fierce expression. She didn’t bother to hide her shudder.
“You’re freezing,” he said in a low, feral growl.
She was not. She was on fire.
The thrill of the manic ride, the exhilaration of their near disaster, and the pure elation of life and living pulsed in her veins. Which was why she stepped toward him, rather than stepping away. Why she reached up and cupped his nape. Why she tugged him down and whispered, “You saved me.”
And she kissed him.
Surely she intended it only to be a kiss of gratitude, one of pure and simple thanks. It was meant to be quick and passionless and chaste.
Perhaps she had been deluding herself, because she fiercely wanted, to the depth of her being, to taste him.
Glory. It was a mind-numbing kiss. It began as a brush of her lips against his. But then, transfixed by the flavor of his breath, the velvet caress of his mouth, she lingered. Her fingers tangled in his hair, tightened. She eased closer and sealed them together from chest to groin.
Though he allowed this familiarity, she could tell he was resisting the urge to kiss her back. His muscles bunched, he arched away.
The thought annoyed her so she tipped her head and deepened the kiss, pressing her tongue between his lips.
He made a sound, something like a growl, and he broke the kiss completely.
In a rush, he whipped her into his embrace and backed her against the wall. She loved his power, the heat of his muscles, his raging passion. But even more, she loved that he did not give rein to his savagery.
Even now, as he consumed her in a series of hungry kisses, he held back. Refrained from crushing her against the granite tor.
With a growl, he reared back and stared at her. “Lass, you tempt me,” he said in a gravely tone.
She tried to hold back her smile, and failed.
“We canna do this.”
Ah, her mood plummeted. And the least of her despair was her plot to scuttle the wedding to his brother. Her body hummed with a desire she’d never experienced before. It was a soul-deep yearning. A need.
To her surprise, he chuckled, and that irked her. “What is so funny?” she snapped. Did he not know how she ached?
“Lass, lass.” He stroked her hair and cupped her cheek in an attempt to soothe her. She scowled at him. He would have to do better than that. Yet what did he do? He chuckled again and pulled her into his arms, though she remained stiff. “I have work to do before we play,” he murmured. He said this in a teasing tone, one that indicated there would indeed be more kissing. More of…everything.

Summer Salads ... Summer Reads

The weather is heating up ... finally. I’m definitely a summer person. Or, more precisely, a late spring/early summer person. I love being outside even when the allergies start acting up! I’m also content with leaving a window open for the breeze and reading. I’ve got a few great books on my summer reading list. Here’s the first of many:

Bomb Voyage! by D.L. Jackson

Captain Jayson Rivers, owner of a commercial mining scoop, likes the simple life. He appreciates order, making money, and reaping the rewards of a hard day’s work.
What he doesn’t like is getting dragged into galactic politics, or into the crosshairs of his ex-wife, a ruthless bomber, who has already tried to take him out once. He doesn’t need complications, like the sexy red-headed mechanic who’s walked her sweet ass onto his vessel, bringing with her a shitload of trouble, and turning his world upside down.

From expensive and illegal boiler parts that break the bank, to homicidal in-laws and a shotgun wedding he’d better be able to get an annulment from, his life can’t get much more complicated.

Until he ends up knocked out, bound naked with his bride, on a one-way trip to a hostile world with a bomb hooked to the control panel of his shuttle.

Yeah, the universe is a crazy place, but Jayson’s simple life has gone past complicated. He’s sliced off a bit of that insanity pie, and things might never go back to normal, if he can even remember what that is.

I’ve also got my absolute favorite summer salad chilling in the fridge.

Avocado Summer Salad (Serves 6-8)

Main Ingredients:

·         6 mini cucumbers
·         3 firm Roma tomatoes
·         1 medium red onion
·         2 ripe avocados
·         Salt and pepper to taste

Optional: 1 T cilantro OR 1 T parsley (depending on taste)

Dressing: Any creamy dressing works
OR for a lighter version mix:
¼ C virgin oil and the juice of one lemon and toss

Directions:

·         Quarter mini cucumbers lengthwise and then slice into bite size pieces.
·         Quarter and seed Roma tomatoes and cut into bite size pieces.
·         Finely chop onion
·         Half and pit avocados, score into squares while inside peel and then scoop out with spoon (much easier than trying to slice when already removed from skin).
·         Mix together in bowl, add salt, pepper and either cilantro or parsley if desired.
·         Drizzle with dressing (doesn’t take much) and stir until combined.
·         Serve immediately.

Hint: This salad can also be done as a LARGE individual serving with 2 cucumbers, 1 tomato, quarter of an onion, 1 avocado, salt & pepper & herb to taste. It’s a big salad, but it’s great for a cool summer lunch!

***
While my salad chills, I’m going to give one last listen to the first three chapters of my newest book scheduled for audio release, The Vessel. With any luck, it’ll be ready to go in time for a beach premier!

Major Liam McGregor is a career soldier. Chosen by the leader of the United Republic to transport a government protectee to safety, Liam takes on a task that has cost his predecessors their very lives.

Alora of Delawon is an alien princess who holds the key to the survival of mankind. With the women of the United Republic left barren by previous chemical warfare, Alora’s ability to bear humanoid children makes her the government’s most valuable commodity.

Together, they make the trek from the government’s safe house back toward the current capitol, fighting off raiders, survivalists, and an unexpected attraction to one another.

Will their desires put them in danger? Or, will their being together become more important than the mission?

So, whether you’re writing, reading, or making a great salad, enjoy your holiday weekend and the coming summer!
