TV Shows to Enjoy

Spring is finally here, or at least that’s what the calendar says. The possibility of warmer days and the first daffodils are here. But there are still some stormy days ahead before summer arrives. Plenty of time to watch some good shows on television.

Now I may be one of the few people in North America who doesn’t have Netflix. I always say I have enough shows to watch now. I don’t have time to add more. And when the Networks run out of shows, then I can get Netflix and I’ll have plenty of great viewing.

That being said, here are a few of my favorites.

Supernatural. I came to this show late. It was on a station when I’d sit down for supper—yes I know I shouldn’t eat and watch TV but I do—and I got hooked. Now I won’t miss it and watch every week. Love me some Sam and Dean Winchester.

The Big Bang Theory. This one I’ve been watching since the first show aired. It’s a half hour of smart comedy. I always laugh. And in this day and age, that’s priceless.

Lucifer. The devil lives in Los Angeles, owns a nightclub, and helps a detective solve crimes. I mean, who doesn’t want to watch that? Tom Ellis plays Lucifer so well, but it’s the cast of characters in this one that really makes it work.

I also enjoy The Blacklist, Blindspot, NCIS, and a couple more. (See why I don’t need Netflix yet.)

What shows do you enjoy?

And if you’re looking for a book to read, Wolf at the Door was just voted Best Paranormal/Urban Fantasy book of 2017 by the Love Romances Cafe readers.

Wolf at the Door
Salvation Pack, Book 1

Gwendolyn Jones is working on an article about werewolves, not that she believes they exist. But there are people out there who do, like the nervous man who slips her a flash drive with information he claims will prove to the world shifters are out there. Gwen starts questioning just what to believe when two very real werewolves come knocking on her cabin door later that night.

Someone has a flash drive with pictures that could endanger his pack, and alpha Jacque LaForge will do whatever it takes to destroy it. But the something deep inside him ignites when he knocks on the door of that “someone”. He didn’t think he’d find a mate, or that when he did, she’d be human. But now that he has found Gwen, he knows he has a fight on his hands to protect her from his former vengeful pack who are out to hurt him by any means necessary.

Where in the U.S. is Rose C. Carole?

I’m right in the middle of A Weekend with the Authors in Nashville, Tennessee. It’s great to meet readers and other authors and talk about books. And eat good food. And play fun games. Although I will say I almost lost my voice after 21/2 hours of speed dating (which for those of you who are unfamiliar with it is musical chairs where authors sit at tables and readers move from one author to the next to talk about what the author writes. Every three minutes the readers move to another author). It’s exhilarating and exhausting at the same time.

I won’t have too much time to recuperate. I get home late Sunday night and leave again on Wednesday for Seattle for the west coast edition of BDSM Writers Con, run by Dr. Charlie Ferrer. It’s a conference for readers and writers of Dominance and submission with workshops and demonstrations and workshops on all aspects of BDSM. I always have a good time and learn something new.

Next month I’ll be at the Brook Hollow Winery in Columbia, New Jersey on April 14 for a Day of Wine and Romance. What could be better than sitting around a wine-tasting room talking books? Roz Lee does a wonderful job putting the event together and she’s a damn good writer as well. If you haven’t read her books you should give them a try. One of my favorites is Spring Training. And her book Suspended Game won both a Golden Flogger Award and a Passionate Plume Award.

I have started a Facebook group called Rose's Garden of Delights. I will be posting about my writing progress, talking about kink, and have already featured many recipes for my #TastyTuesday, with a new recipe each week. Come join me at https://www.facebook.com/groups/1661377927239257/

CELEBRATE ST. PATRICK'S DAY WITH FOOD

https://www.pinterest.com/pin/162340761537922735/

I'm not Irish, but I'll never give up a chance to celebrate a holiday. And what better way to celebrate a holiday than with food?!

Corned beef and cabbage is the classic dish for St. Patrick's Day, and I have a slow cooker recipe that's super easy. I'll admit corned beef used to scare the hell outta me. It was one of those meats my Nana used to make in a pressure cooker and it took hours. No way was I ever going to devote an entire day to cooking, much less use a pot that I always believed had the potential to explode in my face. (For the record, I know pressure cookers are amazing, but the amount of skill needed to use one is beyond my realm of comprehension.)

But crockpots I can do. Crockpots are mothers' little helpers. Crockpots are God's way of saying, I know you do all the cooking for the family, so here's a little something to make your life easier.

First rule if you do not own a crockpot: BUY A CROCKPOT!

Trust me on this. It will become your new best friend. You're welcome.

Rule #2: Go to the grocery store and buy:

2-3 lb. corned beef brisket WITH a spice packet included. This is important because an already-prepared spice packet makes your life easier and that's our goal here.

1 head of green cabbage

2 lbs. Red potatoes (or baby ones, but the key is using a waxy potato because they hold their shape better.)

1 package of baby carrots

1 onion

1 bottle of Guinness beer (Yes, beer, that's not a typo.)

Are you ready to cook this bad boy? Here we go:

Chop the onion, halve your potatoes, and throw those babies in the bottom of the crockpot.

Lay that gorgeous slab of beef on top.

Pour 3 cups of water and 1 cup of Guinness on top. (Drink the rest of the Guinness.)

Sprinkle that magical spice packet over everything.

Cook this monster for 4-6 hours on HIGH or 8-12 hours on LOW.

Go do whatever it is you need to do without having to worry about what the f*ck is for dinner that night.

Return when the cooking time is done. Don't fret that the previously gorgeous meat has turned a yucky shade of grey. It will be a lovely shade of pink inside.

Chop that head of cabbage up, throw it around the meat, and cook another 30-45 minutes until the cabbage is tender.

Ta da! DONE!

See how easy that was? But tell your family you slaved over a hot stove all day anyway, so they'll handle clean-up while you go take a luxurious bubble bath.

A few notes:

If you're an insomniac and prefer to do your slow cooking at night, then by all means do so. You can cook it on HIGH for 7-8 hours and then simply turn it to WARM in the am after tossing in the cabbage.

If you've banned all alcohol from ever entering the house, feel free to substitute either 4 cups of water, or 2 cups of water and 2 cups of low-sodium beef broth.

Fear not that the veggies will become mushy. The fact that they're on the bottom and left undisturbed should guarantee they'll hold their shape. If not, well, a little mush never hurt anyone.

ENJOY AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!

Medical Marijuana by Jennifer Kacey

So I've been sick for a while. Some days it's very much an uphill battle to be positive and hopeful and keep scraping to find some kind of meds to help me even though I'm already on tons. My doctors are trying but it's a daily struggle to feel okay, much less my preferred AMAZEBALLS!!

And trust me.....I've tried tons and tons of meds. My stomach is even more of a special snowflake than I am as a whole :) and it doesn't tolerate meds very well.

After a huge amount of research....and buying a house in NY (no it didn't have anything to do with my decision to buy a house there but it sure is an added bonus)....I decided to apply for my medical marijuana card.
Then I had to do a huge amount more research on what Dr to see in NY and what all of the requirements are and what I'd need to provide from all of my medical professionals in TX. It was very much not an easy process but I decided I wanted to try. Plus I've always wondered why I keep every scrap of my medical file going back years and I could finally put it to good use!

Feeling like ass from the moment you wake up to the moment you go to bed really blows and not in a good way you dirty birds!
I'm not gonna lie - I feel weird talking about this, feel odd admitting to it. Not bad....just odd. I've gone around and around about if I wanted to discuss it but I finally decided to suck up my funky feelings and own my decision.

Society as a whole isn't very accepting of holistic type healing / meds and let's face it, society also tells us from the time we're in the womb that pot is bad bad business and to stay away and you don't want to be "that kind" of person.

My thoughts....

This is my life. My quality of life. My future. My present and I have like....THE BESTEST LIFE EVER and I want to be able to enjoy every moment even more.

So I took the plunge. Applied. And was approved. My NY Dr told me I was the poster child for the program. Pain and muscle issues and horrible nausea for years. Food and I are enemies and I'd very much like to change that.

Once I received my certification for the program I had to then apply with the state for my actual card. I had to submit a passport style picture to be used on the card. The day I took the picture was one of my worst days I can remember. I can always find something to be happy and thankful and bubbly about, but several weeks leading up to that day were torture. I hadn't gotten any sleep in almost two weeks, have had headaches non stop for months and that day I had been up since 4am after terrifying nightmares. That morning I sat on the side of my bed and just cried and cried because I felt so awful.

I love that the picture was taken that day because I will ALWAYS remember how horrible it started. But then later in the day I was approved for something that is hopefully going to really help me. Lordy I'm sure hoping so.

I've tried three things so far and one isn't supposed to really kick in for weeks so I have fingers crossed on that one. One of them I get some relief off of but still figuring out dosing and timing. And the third one that is supposed to seriously knock my ass out so I can actually sleep gives me the giggles and makes me bouncy. So to say I have a ways to go is quite an understatement but I'm willing to try. Because feeling like ass every day is really REALLY not allowed in my wheelhouse any more.

So why am I sharing?? Because I'm hoping if I do then someone else reading this might give the program in their state a second look or a first look and not let the stigma surrounding it, nor anyone else's perception or opinion of it, keep them from finding hope and relief and a better quality of life. Because we ALL deserve that. Every. Single. Day.

I only have one trip around this Popsicle stand and I want to enjoy every moment I get to be here!

If you're interested in the program in your state then I'll share where I found the best info to help me in my search.  Here is the website with TONS of info for all states and where I was able to get nit picky on exactly what I needed to do and how and where and when and all that jazz!

Love you everybody and may your day be AMAZING!!
