Can't See the Forest For the Trees by Jennifer Kacey

You know that adage, you can't see the forest for the trees?
It's one of my favorites to keep everything in perspective.
Being so lost in the details of life that "life" gets lost along the way.

In my bathroom, above the pretty bathtub I hung a painting that reminds me of this every day. Multiple times a day. Red trees that form a beautiful canopy of MY forest.

I have so many irons in the fire I've lost count. Between being a mom, owning two businesses that are SUPER busy, writing how many books at one time, traveling, and trying to stay well (hardee har har) there are literally not enough hours in my day to get everything done. There just aren't. I've requested more but haven't heard back from Father Time yet. :)
But every morning before I plow into my day to kick it in the ass and every night when I'm ready to stare at a blank wall and I'm thinking about all of the things I did or didn't get done - I see my forest.

So everybody stop and take a breath. Back up for a second and take a look at "all" of you. All that you're handling, all that you're accomplishing, ALL of the people you're loving and supporting and helping be....better. Family, friends, employees, lovers, children, strangers. Everyone.

That's who you are. That's your life. Not the burnt toast or the couple minutes you were late to an appt or the blog post you didn't get up on time. That's just trees.
Focus on your forest and make that your goal and it's amazing how far you will go!

Love being a part of all of your forests, and adore you being a part of mine.

Decadently Yours,
Jennifer Kacey :)

Guest Diva: Alannah Lynne Exposes Pandora's Playground - EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT

Blurb:

She’s his heaven and his hell…

Muriel Stewart has spent the past year grieving the loss of her husband, Ian.  Now that time has passed, her inner submissive demands Muriel find a new relationship to fulfill her need to love and serve. But there’s only one man who makes Muriel yearn for the intimate Dom/submissive connection the way her husband did, and that’s his best friend, Mathew Galindo … a man who can barely tolerate her presence.

Mathew Galindo buried his own heart and needs the day Muriel Stewart married his best friend and business partner. He’s spent the last eleven years keeping Muriel at a distance, tortured by his love for a woman he could never have, and filled with shame for coveting what wasn’t and would never be his. Not even his best friend’s unexpected death could change that fact. Until Muriel decides she’s ready for a new Dom and wants Mathew to fill that role.

Having Muriel in his life is all Mathew has ever wanted. She’s his heaven and his hell, and could be his salvation if he can get beyond his past, his shame, and the guilt he feels for not having saved Ian’s life.

And now here is your exclusive Decadent Diva's excerpt for Coveted......

Mathew planted his hands on his hips and frowned as he tried to assess the situation. He didn’t know the context of the conversation between Muriel and Carl Germaine, and he knew he’d read her body language correctly—she wanted distance and by crossing her arms, she’d placed a barrier between them. But Carl was a good guy, and if Muriel flat out told him to leave, Germaine would’ve stuffed his wounded pride in a sack and hauled it to his car without hesitation.

When Mathew continued to take up real estate on the sidewalk but didn’t speak, Muriel stepped around Carl and offered a small, tentative smile. “I guess you two already know each other, so I’ll save the introductions.” Her voice was soft and measured as her gaze flipped back and forth between them, taking stock of the situation and treating them like wild animals that needed calming before they ripped out the other’s throat.

He couldn’t speak for Germaine, but the assessment accurately depicted Mathew’s state of mind when he saw the man crowding Muriel. It didn’t have anything to do with jealous possessiveness.
Not at all. He was just concerned for her safety and acted accordingly with her best interests in mind.

Keep telling yourself that, asshole.

Flicking her gaze to Germaine, she said, “Mathew is one of my oldest friends. I’ve known him since college.” While shifting her soft blue gaze back to Mathew, she eased down a step and reached for his a hand. “Mathew’s here for a quick massage to unwind after a difficult day.”

Even though the sun had gone down and the temperature was cool on this late April evening, sweat popped out across his forehead and the back of his neck as he dropped his gaze to her slender fingers, wiggling back and forth, encouraging him to take hold of her hand.

Touching her would only add to the suffocating ache he’d been living with since abandoning her the night before, but—fuck it—he reached for her anyway. As her fingers laced through his, memories assaulted his mind and heart. Fingers twined together… her body pressed to his… her eyes locked on his as she screamed from the force of her orgasm… him opening up to her.

Swallowing roughly against the swell of emotions, he willed his body not to respond, but the command was useless. Just being in Muriel’s presence had his heart hammering and his cock hardening, pulsing with unleashed furor to finish what they’d started the night before.

He’d spent a miserable night tossing and turning, regretting his decision to leave, and not just because he ached with the need to take her, mark her, claim her in every way. He’d been a cowardly ass to walk away, but he’d been so overwhelmed with the surge of emotions ripping through him, he hadn’t known what else to do. But now he needed to bring the shit back up again and take a bath in it, because he refused to allow her to once again think she’d done something to drive him away.

Excerpt:
A billion butterflies battered Lexi's stomach. She shifted her attention from Ross to the piano. Sure enough, the music had stopped, and Jake faced her from his seat on the bench. Man oh man, the heavy stare from those sky blue eyes sent shivers skittering down her spine. His gaze held the same intensity she remembered from him as a kid, as if he saw into the heart of people, exposing their deepest secrets. It had driven her crazy back then, and she'd spent much time teasing him, pulling his hair, trying to distract him from being so serious all of the damn time. They were teenagers—partying was supposed to be their sole focus.

With his ice-blue stare locked on her, Jake rose to his feet, all taut muscle and predatory power. His energy swept over her like a tsunami, forcing all of the moisture to abandon her mouth while parts much lower wept with want. Her inner Wolf howled, answering the call of this Alpha, the first Dominant male ever to make her sit up and take notice. Holy crap. Her muscles shook with the need to bound over to him, jump in his arms, wrap her legs around his torso and writhe against his hard, hot, tattooed body.

Jake said something to his uncle then stalked straight at her, cutting a path right through the middle of the tables and the many, too-curious patrons.

          A whimper escaped her throat.

Surprise sparked in her brother’s brown eyes. "You're kidding me. Him?" He burst out laughing. "Wow, sis, that's some major, big-time irony right there."

Darci’s expression conveyed her bewilderment. "Now what are you two talking about?"

Her annoying brother grinned. "See that angry Alpha headed our way? My sister here rejected him when they were teens and he's apparently her—"

Lexi socked her brother in the ribs. "Shut it, Ross."

"Ouch." Ross rubbed his side and chuckled at her plight. The jerk. "Come on, Lexi, you have to admit the hilarity of the situation."

No, she did not. Nor did she have to admit that J-Bird was right all those years ago. He was her mate. O to the M to the G…. They were mates.

Even so, he didn't look happy to see her at all. In fact, he looked positively enraged. Shit, shit and triple shit. What a mess she'd made eight years ago. Well, she was woman enough to pull on her big-girl panties and fix it. She straightened her spine and lifted her chin in challenge, meeting Jake's stormy stare. He halted before her.

I can do this. "Hey J-Bird. Nice to see you." Lovely. Her voice sounded like she'd eaten the gravel from the lot in front of Gee's bar. Embarrassment heated her cheeks.

One breath, two breaths, three…. J-Bird glared. Tension coiled between them in the silence. Lexi bit the inside of her cheek to avoid babbling at him. She'd said hello. It was his turn. Damn it, J-Bird, say something. He wasn't making this easy.

"Alexina."  His arctic tone dismissed her and slapped her in the face at the same time, leaving her disappointed and confused. No one called her by her full name. No one except her parents when she'd done something wrong as a kid. He might as well have said, "Screw you," while slamming a door in her face.

His focus shifted to her brother. "Hello, Ross. Been a while." His hand shot out to grasp her brother's in a cordial shake.

"Good to see you, Jake. Join us for lunch? My treat. We can catch up on old times."

"No, thank you. I'm done. Nice to see you again, Ross." Jake nodded at Darci. "Miss." He brushed past them and out the door.

"What. Just. Happened?" The, “I'm done,” he uttered in his delicious British accent seemed aimed more at her than at her brother's offer. And the fact he hadn't even looked at her before stalking out all sexy in his gloom and doom? Yeah, that hurt.

"I think you know, sis." The amusement left her brother's face and sympathy glimmered in his gaze. "Question is, what are you going to do about it?"

She'd never run from a fight in her life. She wouldn't start now. "Grab a table. I'll be back in a second. Or not." She ignored her brother's knowing grin and hurried out the door.

Guest Post: All Those Words! by Lynn LaFleur

Most authors have a system for keeping track of their writing, whether it be words written, or pages completed, or chapters completed, per day or week. I’m no different. I keep track of the words I’ve written and how many pages I’ve completed each day on a calendar. At the end of the year, I add up all those words and pages and put them in a spreadsheet.

But a good friend of mine mentioned the other day that she’d added up all the words she’d written since she became published. That’s something I’ve never done, and it made me curious. So I pulled out my spreadsheet and did some calculating.

1,789,864.

That’s how many words are in my published books to date. It doesn’t count the words in books that I’ve never published. If I added those up, too, the number would be closer to two million.

Two million words. Wow!

Other authors have written less words than I have, and some have written more. Some days I’m lucky to complete 200 good words; other days, I write thousands. Every author has to write at his or her own pace. No amount of words is right or wrong, as long as the author finishes the book.

I’ve recently joined several other authors to publish boxed sets for Under the Sun Publishing. Our first set was released September 22nd, entitled Falling in Love. It contains eight stories from multi-published, award-winning authors, all about the special journey of falling in love.

Here’s a little taste of “Worth the Wait”, my story from the Falling in Love boxed set. I hope you enjoy it!

Lindsay drew her bottom lip farther between her teeth when she saw Sam unlock the door to the storeroom. She glanced around the bar, searching for the other bartender. She didn’t see him, but she could hear what sounded like dishes being shifted and stacked in the kitchen.

She had no idea how long Sam would be in that storeroom. If she did something, it had to be now.

Don’t be a wimp, Lindsay. Go for it.

Lindsay sipped her Coke and took a deep breath. Grabbing her purse, she rose and strode to the storeroom.

She stepped into a room larger than she’d expected. Long and wide, shelves sat along all the walls and down the middle, holding boxes of liquor and glassware. She saw a door straight ahead of her that she assumed led to the kitchen, or perhaps opened for deliveries. She couldn’t see Sam, but she could hear bottles rattling.

Laying her purse on top of a case of bourbon, she pushed the door shut and flipped the deadbolt.

The rattling stopped. “Monte?” Sam called out.

Lindsay leaned back against the door, her hands behind her for support. “No, it isn’t Monte.”

Several seconds passed before he appeared at the end of the middle shelves.

Lindsay said nothing and neither did he. She watched his gaze slowly move over her from head to feet and back again. Her heart pounded as if she’d done an hour of hard exercise. Sweat formed on her palms while her mouth became dry. She waited for him to move closer, but he remained still.

The first move had to be hers.
