Decadent Delights

I'm not a kitchen diva. It's just not in my DNA to be creative nor patient with food. I do like to cook. I'm just not a master chef. Simplicity is key with me. But I do like having people over. And when I have people over, I like to have fun dishes. Which has been a challenge. So now when I look at recipes online, I look for fun dishes that seem doable. No rainbow cakes in a mason jar, or cookies that require the icing to be painted on for me.

When I saw these s'mores pops, however, I had to admit they seemed easy enough. So I gave it a go. They seemed pretty simple and yet fun at the same time. And they were a huge hit. They're rich and decadent to eat, but the prep and assembly were super easy so I thought I'd share.

Ingredients:
  • 1 bag regular sized Marshmallows
  • 1 bag mini chocolate chips
  • 3-4 sheets of Graham Crackers
  • 20-30 sucker sticks (you can get these at a craft store)
Instructions:
  1. Melt chocolates according to package directions in a small bowl.
  2. Crush Graham cracker sheets into slightly coarse crumbs and place in a separate small bowl.
  3. Place a sucker stick in the center of a marshmallow, dip in the chocolate, then gently dip in the Graham cracker crumbs.
  4. Let dry on a sheet of wax paper.
  5. Repeat for however many S'mores Pops you want.

Daniel Sinclair is a broken man with wounds that are physical and spiritual. He’s weighed down by grief and guilt that he could not save his friend, Graeme Lennox, and is convinced that a French lance left him less than a man. He has no prospects. Nothing left but his tarnished honor. But then he meets a vexing boy who makes him question even that.

Fia Lennox’s world turned on its end with her brother’s death. She’s gone in one fell swoop from lady to servant…to a woman on the run. The world is a dangerous place for a woman alone—even when she is masquerading as a boy—so when she meets up with a strong, valiant ex-cavalryman, she decides to become his traveling companion. Whether he likes it or not.

Battling villains, would-be-friends and their own finely-forged battlements, Fia and Daniel rush toward their destiny, a scorching passion and, hopefully, redemption. Can love conquer all? Even the ghosts of the past?

Read an excerpt of Tarnished Honor:

Glorious.
There was no other word for it. Simply glorious.
Daniel tipped his face up to the sky and grinned. The sun was shining and the breeze was mild. The sky was blue and tufted with fat white clouds. It was a lovely day to travel—it could have been raining, could have been cold. But since he’d set out from London, on this lengthyjourney to Inverness, each day had been prettier than the last.
His mood had improved too. He was swamped with the conviction that he’d done the right thing, leaving his haven. As much as he appreciated his position at the club, he’d allowed himself to sink into it, into the rut of it. He’d allowed himself to wallow in his woes.
There was no wallowing on the road; there simply wasn’t time for it.
It was energizing to be traveling again, invigorating to be out in the world, breathing fresh air and going somewhere. He enjoyed the solitude, the quiet, the absence of need to make conversation.
That left him alone with his thoughts, his regrets, his guilt, but such specters had haunted him for so long, they were like old companions. He wouldn’t know who he was without them.
Aye. This was far more healing than any medicine—the power of his mount between his thighs, the kiss of warmth on his face, the movement. Surprisingly, his leg hardly pained him at all, except when he moved suddenly. In fact, it even felt better after several days of riding. He hadn’t fallen off his horse once.
Hunnam was in good form as well. No doubt he’d enjoyed the fresh air and the chance to prance once again. An hour’s exercise a day was one thing, but for a Scots Grey, the chance to run and run wild spoke to his soul.
It spoke to Daniel’s too, so he put his heels to his mount’s sides and gave him his head.
And it was glorious.
He hadn’t realized how closed up he’d allowed himself to become. How isolated. He hadn’t realized how much he’d allowed his injury—and his guilt—to shrink his horizons.
Well, his horizons weren’t limited now. They spread before him in a verdant green wash that stretched as far as the eye could see. He passed a loch and paused to admire the sparkling waters, to watch an osprey swoop down to snatch a hapless fish.
And damn, but it was a fine thing to be back in Scotland. Daniel hadn’t realized just how much he’d missed hearing the lilt of his own brogue, or tasting a well-made haggis. The Brits didn’t care for haggis, a fact he’d never quite understood. When created by someone who knew what they were doing, it was delicious. And Scottish innkeepers, apparently, knew what they were doing. Or their wives did.
There was no doubt about it, he’d probably gained a stone since crossing the border to his homeland. He’d never felt so vibrant and alive. And while he had enjoyed the occasional chat with a fellow countryman, he had never enjoyed his own company more. There was something about being alone with one’s thoughts that was very peaceful. It allowed a man to explore his soul at leisure without interruptions. It allowed a man to process all that had happened in his life. To put everything in the place it belonged. Though he still had several days of travel, at most a week, he was already lamenting the journey’s end.
After he passed the Kinclaven Crossroads, the landscape changed from fields and farms to orchards. The looming trees shaded the road in a lacy pattern; the scent of crisp apples filled the air, tempting Daniel to reach up and pluck one for a taste.
He did not. That would be stealing and he was a man of honor.
He pulled back on Hunnam’s reins when he spotted a white mare standing in the road. She was difficult to miss. Her lines were exquisite, her saddle and tack were the finest…but she had no rider. His brow wrinkled as he rode closer. No one would ever abandon such a fine horse. It was—
“Blast.”
The imprecation came from the leafy tree next to which the mare stood.
Daniel glanced up; the boughs riffled. An apple fell to the ground.
The mare whinnied and walked over to it, lipping up the treat.
Another apple fell and the horse made short work of that one was well.
“Stop eating them all,” the tree said. “Save some for me.”
Daniel cleared his throat. It seemed prudent to make himself known. “Hullo?”
The leaves rustled and a face peered out. Enormous blue-green eyes stared at him. Something flickered through them. Something that could have been construed as…guilt.
Daniel frowned. “What are you doing up there?” he asked.
The eyes blinked. “Nothing.”
“Nothing?” He drummed his fingers on his saddle. “Are you stealing apples?”
The chagrined expression on that elfin face was nearly whimsical. “Is this your orchard?”
“Indeed it is not.”
An entrancing, mischievous smile blossomed and the thief tossed him a fat red apple. “Then catch.”
He did not. He did not catch. The apple bounced off his pate.
“Oh really,” an amused voice echoed from above. “Let’s try again.”
“Let’s not.”
Too late. Another apple flew in his direction. He missed it again. It fell to the ground and Hunnam gobbled it up.
“Sir, you are supposed to catch them.”
“I doona care to abet you in your thievery—” Another missile flew. By the grace of God, he caught this one. “Please stop throwing stolen apples at me.” It was large and red and shiny and looked delicious. Aside from that, it smelled quite tantalizing. As he felt he had earned it, he polished it on his lapel and took a bite. Flavor exploded in his mouth and juice dribbled down his chin. They were excellent apples.
The face disappeared, followed by more rustling. A satchel fell to the loam with a soft thud. Then a pair of feet appeared. Legs. Slim hips. Slender shoulders and then a mop of tousled black curls.
A boy dropped to the ground with an oof. He looked up at Daniel, his head tipped saucily to the side, and then he grinned. It was a rakish grin. “Not stealing,” he said. “Borrowing.”
This he said with such conviction, Daniel had to struggle not to laugh. This was no laughing matter. Thieves ended up in the gaol. “Ah. Borrowing. Surely you won’t mind explaining that to him.” Daniel nodded to the distance, where a farmer was running through the trees toward them, arms flailing.
The boy’s eyes widened. He picked up the satchel and hefted it over his shoulder. Then he bounded into the saddle and shot a glance back at Daniel. His grin was wicked as he urged his mount forward…leaving Daniel behind to explain to the farmer why his apples were missing.
And why apple juice dribbled from his chin.

ANCIENT TIES An Erotic Time Travel Romance by Jane Leopold Quinn

ANCIENT TIES
An Erotic Time Travel Romance
by Jane Leopold Quinn

A Roman Soldier Spoke to Me

Thanks so much, Sabrina, for hosting Ancient Ties on the day of its re-release.

Finally, after reading many British authors and especially Jane Austin, I made my first trip to England. It'd always been fascinated by the ancient world - Rome, Greece, Egypt. The British Museum in London was a treasure trove, and the Rosetta Stone was one of the many highlights.
But what turned out to be the best for me was the Roman Museum at Bath, touring the baths, and seeing the surviving artifacts. I was totally in love with everything there and had no idea the real impact Bath would have on my life.
I took photos of everything I could see - statues, pediments, mosaics, and a row of tombstones. Roman soldiers' tombstones. I took a photo then moved on. The actual bath itself was much smaller than I'd thought but more impressive and beautiful than I could have ever imagined.

When I got home, I had my photos developed - yes, this was years before digital cameras. All the pictures turned out very well except for the one of the tombstone. The edges of the stone were sharp, but the center where it was carved was hazy. Darn! I told my friends that the Roman soldier's spirit was coming out to meet me. Haha.
About a month after that trip, I met the man who became my husband [there's another blog post about that]. After we'd been married a couple of years, we went back to England (he'd never been) and our tour visited some of the places I'd already seen. Bath and the Roman Museum was a repeat. I wanted to retake the tombstone photo and hoped it would come out clear this time. I wouldn't know until we got home, because I still didn't have a digital camera.
The photo was clear! This time I claimed the carving was clear because the soldier approved of my new husband.
After another many years, I began writing romance. One of my first inspirations was to write a story about an third-grade Iowan school teacher (I'd been a third-grade teacher in Dubuque, Iowa) who visits England and goes back in time to the Second Century Roman Britain. Oh, yeah, and she meets a Roman soldier.
After much research about Roman life in the Second Century, villas, clothing, gods and goddesses, the baths, and ancient culture, I ended up with Ancient Ties. Easy peasy.  Not. But it was a labor of great love and satisfaction.

I have several more blog posts scheduled to celebrate the re-release of Ancient Ties and to continue the conversation. Please feel free to go to any posts. There are several different topics:

Nursing a broken heart, Janney Forrester flies to England for a much needed vacation. She gets one—and much more. A drive through the countryside and the sight of a mysterious heavy gold bracelet found nestled against ruined walls draw her across the crumbling stone threshold of an ancient villa where she beholds a Roman room in perfect historical detail. To add to the unreality, there's the most gorgeous, masculine man she's ever seen, her every sensual fantasy personified. Confusion by what's happening to her vies with attraction when Janney is thrust two thousand years into the past.

Roman soldier Marek Benin Verus considers the woman suddenly appearing before him as a gift from the gods. Zeus knows he needs one! Battle fatigued and emotionally scarred after fifteen years in the army, he's on a leave of absence and has all the time in the world to devote to seducing this beautiful woman into his bed. He doesn't plan on the powerful and dangerous emotions she inspires in him.

Marek's hard, muscular body is too luscious to resist. Janney decides to risk the comfort of her safe life and carpe diem—seize the day. Marek seizes her body and takes her to the edge—and over—to an ecstasy she never knew existed. Can a new world for her, timeless desire, and a loving exploration of each other's bodies forge a passion that survives centuries of separation?

Setting the scene:  One late night in the baths…

Very late one night, after making sure all the servants were asleep in their beds, Marek swept Janney into his arms and headed for the baths. He settled her waist deep into the warm water, her back snuggled up against his chest and between his knees as he sat behind her on a step.
It was a dreamscape, the air above them steamy. Soft candlelight threw flickering shadows. She'd had just enough wine to feel relaxed, loose. She never questioned Marek when it came to these sensual amusements. He always knew exactly what he was doing, and she always received the maximum pleasure from them. Sighing and purring like a cat, she stretched back, arching her neck. His fingers caressed her, teasing and rolling her nipples as he brushed his lips over her shoulder. With the combination of his hot breath bathing her skin and the water gently lapping around her body, she felt as if she was going further and further under in a trance. A wonderful trance that made her feel safe and cared for—and loved.
From her position lying back against his chest in a hypnotized state, eyes narrowed, breathing shallow, she watched his hands slipping over and around her breasts. Her tongue scraped her upper teeth. She hadn't known before how much pleasure there could be in watching him squeeze and play with her. She arched up into his hands. Even well acquainted with his lovemaking, she still marveled at what he could do to her body. Uncontrollably, she stretched again, offering even more of herself. "Ah God." She clutched the nape of his neck.
"Janney," he ground out, his hot tongue flicking into her ear.
The torture was delicious.
He slid his hand down her body. She cried out at the loss of pressure to her nipple, her head rolled from side to side in protest, then stopped when his fingers pressed between her legs. "Ah, yes." She rocked her hips up and agreeably parted her thighs, snuggling even further, if it was possible, into his embrace.
Under the water he fondled her, stroked her, sliding his fingers along both sides of her throbbing clit and circling around the entrance to her body. A low strangled growl escaped her. He knew so absolutely what pleased her. She had to bite her lower lip to keep her cries low, her throat aching with the frustration of holding them in. She didn't want any of the servants hearing them.
"Let it go, Janney. I want to hear you," he rumbled in her ear, his warm tongue spearing inside.
"Someone…" she gasped, her scalp prickling in ecstasy.
"No one will come," he assured her. "Except you." He gently thrust his finger inside her.

AUTHOR BIO

Sensual fantasies were locked in my mind for years until a friend said, "Why don't you write them down?" Why not, indeed? One spiral notebook, a pen and the unleashing of my imagination later, and here I am with more than a dozen books published. The craft of writing erotic romance has become my passion and my niche in life. I love every part of the creative process—developing characters, designing the plot, even drawing the layout of physical spaces from my stories. My careers have been varied—third grade school teacher, bookkeeper, secretary—none of which gave me a bit of inspiration. But now I'm lucky enough to write romance full time—the best job in the universe! And I'm fortunate enough to have found my own happily ever after husband.

Series: Love Them or Hate Them? Guest Post by Lynn LaFleur

I’ve written seven series so far, plus a collection of books that takes place in my fictional town of Lanville, Texas, and another collection that is set at fictional North Texas Highland Hospital. I have more series books planned for the future, and more books that will take place in Lanville and at the hospital. I love revisiting my characters, letting my readers know what those characters are doing ever since they received a happy ending in their own books. A series lets me do that.

My latest series—Anything Goes, about a sex club on the outskirts of Dallas, Texas—currently has four books in it. The idea for the first book—Anything Goes—literally popped into my head as I approached my birthday. I thought, what about a woman who’s recently gone through a divorce and wants to do something wild and crazy on her birthday? That idea turned into my heroine visiting Anything Goes, where she discovers the man she’s secretly cared about for years is one of the owners.

The 4th book—Luring Lisa—is about another of the club’s owners. Lisa meets Kade in the San Francisco airport, where they engage in some fast, steamy sex in a supply closet. They part, never expecting to see each other again. But if that happened, my book wouldn’t be a romance. And I promise, my books always have a happy ending.

So, do you love series or hate them? I’d love your opinion.

Lynn

Find out more about these books, plus the other two books in the series—Panties Optional and Delicious Burn—on my website:

* * * * *

An excerpt from Luring Lisa:

Lisa wondered if she’d lost her mind. She had no other explanation for agreeing to find an empty closet somewhere close by so she could have sex with a stranger. Even when she had sex at her club, she rarely chose someone she didn’t know. She usually stuck with an attendant or a long-time member.
Kade cupped her elbow in his palm. The simple touch of his hand sent desire coursing through her body. She couldn’t imagine how she would react when he kissed her.
Yes, she could. She’d melt into a puddle at his feet.
Since it had been a long time since she’d melted at a man’s feet, she looked forward to it.
“This way.”
He tugged her through a construction site not far from where they’d eaten breakfast. She hadn’t noticed it when she’d entered the coffee shop, but apparently Kade had. He led her around sawhorses and piles of lumber and tools she didn’t recognize until they reached a closed door that she assumed led to a supply closet. She grinned to herself at the cliché of having sex in a supply closet.
Complete darkness greeted her when she stepped inside. Kade had no sooner closed the door behind them than Lisa heard items hitting the floor. She found herself plastered against the door, then Kade cradled her face in his hands and kissed her. Except this couldn’t be called just a kiss. He coaxed, he teased, he worshipped. His lips moved over hers gently for a few moments before he deepened the kiss. His tongue swiped over her lips, asking for permission to go farther. Lisa gave it, parting her lips and meeting his tongue with her own.
He inhaled sharply. One hand continued to cradle her face while the other began a slow journey down her body. Lisa could only stand and accept whatever he did since she still held her cup of latte and jacket. Not that she objected to his touch. His hand swept down her side, her hip, her thigh, before making the return trip. He detoured, and covered her breast with his hand. A gentle squeeze made her moan.
“’Tis nice,” he whispered against her lips.
“Nice” didn’t begin to describe how perfect it felt for his hand to caress her breast. Lisa absorbed all the sensations, yet wanted to return them to Kade. She wished she’d had the chance to empty her hands before he’d kissed her.
“I want to see you,” Kade said.
Turning on a light might draw attention to them. If the room even had a light. Lisa had no idea where they stood. “Use the flashlight on your cell phone.”
“Aye, good idea.”
She took a deep breath once Kade moved away from her. His kisses had left her lightheaded. That hadn’t happened in so long, she’d forgotten the incredible sensation of completely giving herself to a man, of letting him lead their lovemaking. Lisa had never been passive in bed, preferring to be the one in charge. She liked being on top, liked being in control of her own satisfaction. Being buried beneath a man didn’t let her touch herself, didn’t let her decide when she’d experience an orgasm, or how many she’d have.
Something about Kade smashed all her normal desires. She wanted to feel his weight on top of her. That hadn’t happened in a very long time.
